Danny Glover has proclaimed unto the winds that he has no interest in doing another Lethal Weapon film. We get news of this declaration via movieweb:
Internet rumors circulated a few months ago about how Mel Gibson had been offered over $25million to reprise his role as LAPD Officer Martin Riggs for a fifth and final chapter in the franchise and that Richard Donner had a story in mind which he would be interested in directing.
Glover unequivocally and emphatically told us that there is no way that he would be returning for a fifth film and that as far as he was concerned, the franchise is over for him and the door is shut.
Danny Glover wants to move on, and who can blame him. The fourth installment of Lethal Weapon was well received and leaving on a high point is wise. That being said, a large enough monetary offer may cause the best of us to sell our souls. I sold mine for a fairly large bucket of chicken and a 2 liters of Coca Cola.
Glover is currently working on the Venezuelan backed film about Toussaint Louverture. The Guardian describes the man as follows: A freed slave of African descent, he led thousands of slaves in successful campaigns against British, Spanish and French troops before being betrayed, captured and exiled. He died in 1803, just before his followers succeeded in establishing the island’s independence. This man’s story is one that should be told! From slave to conquering freedom fighter is just about as kickass as you can get.
With such a majestic and glorious project being formed in his own hands; it is no wonder Glover has decided to move on.
Fuck you Riggs! I have bigger fish to fry.
