    If that’s your rationale, then Ledger is NOT playing the Joker, but a character loosley based on the Joker because Joker has bleached skin. Ledger’s character just wears make up. Therefore, no one should claim Ledger is playing the Joker according to Alfie.

    As for Nicholson…he IS the Joker despite a little paunch (and how do you know Joker’s not supposed to be middle aged?) Ledger is just pathetic.

    anyone moaning about ledgers looking wrong must have hated nicholsons joker because I don’t recall any version of the joker in which the joker was an overweight middleaged man…..

    I think ledger looks great myself and will resevr final judgement when I have seen at least some actual moving images…..

  4. Not much Ledger can do, because he’s miscast. Never the less, do you have a copy of Frank Miller’s DARK KNIGHT RETURNS? Look at the Joker in that. He is a man who’s skin has been bleached white by chemicals. His mouth is NOT scarred. His hair has been bleached green by the chemicals, and Miller has him wear red lipstick. I would even accept a variation where Joker is a pale skinned albino who dyes his hair green and wears red lipstick. But this shit of him having a scarred mouth and slapping on clown makeup is total bullshit, just like in the last one where Nolan had Joe Chill captured hours after the Waynes murder, and serve time. Might as well let Ledger grow a mustache and cover it with make up.

  5. Can someone please tell me what you want the Joker to look like? Everyone is bitching and moaning but to me it seems that Ledger is stylized and characterized exactly the way the Joker should be?

    Just because it’s not fucking Jack Nicholson doesn’t mean it’s not the Joker.

    Please someone explain to me, exactly what Ledger needs to do to get it right?

    Don’t tell me what he’s doing wrong (EG. Looks like Heath Ledger with a hangover), tell me what he needs to fix.

    Because to me, this is near on perfect to what I imagined the Joker to be like.

  8. I believe Nolan has stated that the Joker’s white face will not be a result of the accident, but rather makeup he puts on himself.

    As far as the batsuit, the only issue I have is the (false) need to completely redo it for every movie. Want to separate the neck from the cod piece for more realistic mobility? Fine, but do we have to make all the other changes also? Being that the movie story origins the costume as military wear, it makes sense to separate the pieces for better mobility, but as was mentioned, all the various lines take away from the overall idea of subtlety that the costume should have.

    Oh well, I’ll hold full judgement until I see the film …

  9. Joker looks okay…wish he looked the same as the first picture. Batman’s suit in that last one looked like a fanboy going to a Con made it. Although one thing I do like about the batsuits they made for these movies are the eyes, the just look so hollow and scary…kinda like the bat cave.

  10. I’m also gonna go on record as saying that the comic version blue and grey suit would look ridiculous on screen in the real-world environment of Nolan’s Batman. Or any movie for that matter.

    Absolutely ridiculous.

    I’m sorry to all those that would like to see that version of the Batsuit in the movies, but I just can’t see that working.

    I liked the “Dead End” short that Lennon mentioned, but I thought that light blue and grey cloth suit that he was wearing looked horrible.
    I’m sorry… but I did.

  12. Y’know, I’ve been thinking about it, and I like the low-tech black and grey costume Clark Bartrum wore in Sandy Collora’s “Batman Dead End” much more than either of the costumes in the Nolan movies.

  13. The photos are kind of…weak. Ledger does not look right…looks more like a Ronald McDonald actor who goes nuts. Is his face supposed to be discolored by chemicals, or is he just wearing clown makeup to cover his scarred mouth? Can’t tell. Bale…well, let’s just say I did not care for him in Begins, and this new padded up suit ain’t helping (is he still gonna use the overdone Harvey Fierstien voice?) The 3rd photo could be captioned “Brokeback Batman”. I just hope the script is better than that crap Goyer turned in for Begins. I don’t think this one will top the 89 film.

  15. I’m so excited about this flick and next summer seems so far away, too far.

    I love the look of the Joker though I have to say that his hair looks like he went swimming and decided not to wash the chlorine out of his hair.

    The new batsuit is fine, but I liked the suit from Begins better. I also think the cowl makes Bale’s face look narrow and oblong. Minor things which in no way my excited.

  16. i think new the suit is cool. the old thick rubber suit looked cooler but was restrictive. this suite will be much more flexible for a martial arts master. it has needed armor in places & remains flexible at the joints…. “keeping it real” hopefully we’ll get way better fight scenes, ones we can actually see what i really love is that batman can use his neck & turn his head, finally!! i think the joker is great, runny make up & all. i think ledger will do fine. keep it up john with your unprofessional-site-having-self!

  18. These pics are great but be careful John because they were leaked accidentally and Warner is having them taken down off of several sites. Just a heads up, wouldn’t want another incident like Transformers debacle befall upon you.

  20. The chest bat logo gets a bit lost with all the lines and stuff but since hes going for practical, the suit would need less restrictive moving part. Batman actually has a neck now so he doesnt have to pivot his entire upper torso to look round. I think its a good evolution. Also I guess this confirms the speculation about joker wearing white make-up or not.

    after seeing these picks, i feel stroner then ever that heath ledger is not a great choice.

    but, i’ll have to wait and see. for all i know he is knocking it out of the park.

  22. I don’t get the obsession of costume designers to make the Batsuit look like some kind of futuristic war armor. Just give him a fucking black suit, as in Begins, that’s perfectly alright.
    I don’t like the look of the suit, but that of course doesn’t mean this movie isn’t my most anticipated film next year.
    As for Ledger’s Joker, he doesn’t look as fucked up as I hope he would, but we haven’t seen him in action at all so far (apart from that little audio snippet). Nolan surely had good reasons to cast Heath, so I have faith he will do something special.

  23. Bale obviously is still in the process of gaining weight after losing it once again for Rescue Dawn. He doesn’t look nearly as pumped as Batman Begins.

    I trust Nolan, don’t get me wrong, but all the lines and shit all over the suit makes it look a bit like those Schumacher suits with all the exaggerated detailing and shit on them. Hell, at least there’s no nipples.

  26. I still don’t know if this series is supposed to be realistic or a comic book series.

    It seems every other scene it’s something borderline realistic like the Thomas Wayne murder or the mob scenes, but any sort of realism gets lost when you vaporize water to take over a city or you fucking let a guy dressed like in a halloween costume inside an interrogation room.

    What’s the point? In these movies Batman has no experience with the joker, right? That’s the only way I could see cops letting him go in the room, except to give nerds geekgasms when Batman hits the joker in the face, which I guess is enough to make them proclaim all over the web that this movie is the BEST EVAR!!1!

    No offense but thinking ultimately leads to this conclusion.

    No offense, brother, but anybody who puts The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beggining anywhere near a top 10 list and classifies House Of The Dead as a “Decent Movie” immedeately loses all credibility as far as I’m concerned.

    I know lists are subjective, but c’mon man…

    i wasnt too happy with the very first joker pic we saw but i was okay with it. but now….wow…the joker looks like shit…and for some reason the batman suit looks so gay…shoulder pads? the first time we got a pic of the new bat suit it was pretty cool. idk why it looks so crappy now

    i just lost a lot of enthusiasm for this movie

  41. eh…i thought the joker was gonna look more disturb…like a really fucked up face, but i guess they are going with the idea that the joke is just some regular dude whos dressed up as a clown

    i just hope ledgers performance is spot on
