Spielberg And Jackson Team Up For Tintin

tintin.jpegA Tag Team of titans is on board to bring us Tintin to the silver screen! Peter Jackson and Steven Speilerg are joining forces in both direction and production. We get the news from movieweb:

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are teaming to direct and produce three back-to-back features based on Georges Remi’s beloved Belgian comic-strip hero Tintin for DreamWorks, according to Variety. The films will be produced in full digital 3-D using performance capture technology.

The two filmmakers will each direct at least one of the movies; the studio wouldn’t say which director would helm the third.

I think it is fun that these guys will trade off directing duties for different films in the trilogy. This is a series that will have tremendous international appeal and very well could set itself up to be a Harry Potteresque money making machine.

I remember as a youngster going to the bookmobile that would come weekly to our school. Often I would look for Tintin books or the Mr.Men books by Roger Hargreaves. The 7 year old Doug Nagy is very excited to see this film, so I will have to take him to the theater.

There is a lot of Tintin that they are able to use as source material for three films. With Peter Jackson’s ability to translate books to film, I am certain the translation between formats will be one of quality. On paper this looks like it will be an outlandish success.

  1. WHAT!!!! I still like reading Tintin tons! The way Herge drew them was so unique. Some clasics can be translated to film but it takes great directors to do this. A team up of Jackson and Spielberg just might make the cut, but I wonder hoe they will work out Snowy the dog and how he thinks, and how they’ll do Captain Haddock and his drunkenness. If they ruin this then I will feel for the legions of angry Transformers fans!

  2. I love the comics and am curious about the movie.

I remember watching the cartoons on Nick Jr. all the time before I even knew it was a comic book and thinking it was one of the best cartoons ever.

This is back-to-back? Like released in theaters back to back, or is 3 movies in one a la Grindhouse?

  3. This is great news indeed. I’ve been a fan of the Tintin comics ever since elementary school, and I used to watch the old cartoons they used to air on HBO.

It’s nice to see the classics make a comeback.
