No Country for Old Men Receives High Praise At Cannes

coenb.jpeg We have news about the upcoming Coen Brother’s film No Country For Old Men. We get the following story and synopsis from the WEBMASTER over at FILMJUNK:

One of the most talked about movies from this year’s Cannes Festival was The Coen Brothers’ No Country For Old Men. It narrowly missed winning the Palme D’Or this year (that distinction instead went to an abortion drama called 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days) however it is something I will definitely be keeping my eye out for at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

It’s been three years since we’ve seen anything new from The Coens (not counting their contribution to the collaborative film Paris je t’aime), their last film being The Ladykillers which I thought was decent but still a far cry from the best work. No Country for Old Men finds them moving away from comedy again in favour of another dark crime thriller in the vein of Fargo or Blood Simple. Based on the book by Cormac McCarthy, it is about a hunter who stumbles across the remnants of a drug deal gone bad… a few dead bodies, some cash and a lot of heroin. He takes the money, only to find himself on the run from a violent hitman sent to retrieve it.

This movie sounds like it is going to kick ass. I am a fan of the Coen Brothers and will always look forward to their projects. Lebowski is my favorite film of theirs, it is one of the greatest comedy films ever made. It may also be one of the most re-watchable movies ever made. If these guys had a campfire and told stories for friends to listen, I would be sitting in the circle with them.

With Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Woody Harrelson in the cast you can rest assured that magic is going to happen in the interactions. According to the WEBMASTER this film will hit the streets on November the 9th. among the fallen leaves and naked branches of the elder oaks.

  1. From what I heard, the book is great…lately the Cohen brothers have been disappointing me, but this looks like they are moving back towards their (O Brother Where Art Thou?) critique. Best movie 2007 (So Far): Knocked Up
