De Niro And Pachino Team Up In Righteous Kill

dinpac.jpeg We have news of what may turn out to be one of the greatest cop “buddy” movies ever. It looks like Pachino and De Niro will finally get to work together as partners. We get the news from the moviehole:

“Godfather II” and “Heat” duo Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are set to re-team for “Righteous Kill,” a $60 million indie production put together by Nu Image’s Millennium Films and Emmett/Furla Films, says Variety. Shooting will begin Aug. 6 in Connecticut, with some work in Gotham to follow. The two stars play cops chasing a serial killer. Jon Avnet will direct and produce; “Inside Man” scribe Russell Gewirtz penned the script.

Emmett said the idea for the film originated from the two actors’ desire to co-star. “They’re friends, and this really all got started from that,” he said.

This is delightful news. They were both in Godfather 2 and Heat, but this is the first time the two of them will be on screen as a team for the duration of a movie. I am honestly surprised it took this long to put these guys together in a cruiser on the big screen. These two are going to be great a a surly cop duo. I wonder if there is going to be a good cop and a bad cop, or just two bad cops. Either way, this should be a fantastic celebration of law enforcement.

The fact that they got Russell Gewirtz is huge. I really liked inside man and thought it was a pretty fantastic heist movie. I hope Gewirtz strikes gold again, because with these two dudes acting out your script, you get the best advertising you could hope for as a writer. These guys can turn trash into treasure, but with a fantastic script – someone is getting an Oscar.

  1. LOL, an Indy film with a budget of $60 million. I should say that’s a freaking huge budget. Okay, I know the money isn’t what makes it independent, but still.

Oh, and Heat is the worst fucking movie ever.

  2. Gewirtz is an inspired choice. He certainly received a world-class education working with Spike Lee in how to do character pieces with heart and brains. Hopefully he was paying close attention.

  3. I agree I don’t understand why they haven’t teamed these two up more. I really hope this turns out well, it’s a fairly big budget for the kind of movie that it is. But I am guessing the budget will rise WAYYY up once Pacino and De Niro demand their paycheck.
