One of my personal favorite critics, Roger Ebert, had to be rushed into surgury to have “complications from a previous cancer surgery” repaired. He is currently in the hospital in “serious but stable” condition.
The folks over at CNN give us this:
Ebert had surgery June 16 to remove a cancerous growth on his salivary gland. He told Sun-Times columnist Robert Feder at the time that the condition was not life-threatening and he expected to make a full recovery.
About 8 p.m. Saturday, a blood vessel burst near the site of the operation, the Sun-Times reported Sunday on its Web site. A Northwestern Memorial Hospital spokeswoman declined to comment Sunday afternoon. The 64-year-old has undergone cancer surgery three times before — once in 2002 to remove a malignant tumor on his thyroid gland and twice on his salivary gland the next year.
Like his taste in films or hate them, most have to admit that Ebert has been one of the finest movie pundits for over 3 decades… and redefined what a film critic is. We at The Movie Blog wish him all the best and hope for a speedy recovery. Come back Roger! We need you to flame Rob Schneider some more!

Anybody who publicly bitch-slaps Schnieder like that deserves to live forever. More often than not I don’t agree with him about movies but he’s a damn good critic.

Man rereading the Schneider burn makes me feel extra sad that ebert might leaving us. We should pray for Ebert.

I always did like Roger. He was one of the few movie critics that couldn’t be bought and intimadated by the powers that be (Hollywood moguls). I wish him all the best.
Yes well wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery. The man has forgotten more about movies than many know.
