  1. Do any of you know? if WB. is going to do the same thing in the south border of the U.S., because china is not the only place w/ this problem. I mean the last time that I did a trip to mexico, I saw all kind of DVD & CD pirated.

  2. Regarding the $1.50 DVDs in China. I suspect that WB _can_ make a profit off of them, but that’s because the U.S. (and European) releases are “footing the bill”, if you will.

After all, the main expense for a DVD is making the actual movie. Once the cost of the movie (and advertising) is taken care of by the theatrical release profits and North American (and European) DVD profits, the only expense in releasing the movies in China is the cost of blank DVDs, which are dirt cheap in large quantities.

So while I have no doubt they _could_ release DVDs cheaper here in America (though not $1.50 cheap), I doubt they will, since people are buying them at their current price. That’s my guess anyway.

  3. Haha, it just occured to me that if this podcast was a John only podcast, I wouldn’t listen to it. I could totally get used to just Doug and Darren.

Also, is Darren called the Hammer cause he has a 9-inch penis?

    Thanks.

  4. There are 100’s of live action films based on Manga or anime … most are Asian of course…

Some of the better known in the west are…
    The Guyver
    Guyver: Dark Hero
Fist of the North Star … with the late Chris Penn and starring Gary Daniels
The Story of Ricky AKA Riki √î … a film which is a must see for fans of ultraviolet kung fu hyper gore movies
    Initial D

A very large proportion of Japanese film (But also films from other Asian nations) is based on manga comics as they cover all genre’s and are set out like film storyboards; and of course many of these manga have also been adapted as anime. The live action films are normally adaptations of the manga and not the anime, but it kind of amounts to the same thing especially to most of use in the west who may have seen the cartoons but not read the manga books.

Really liked this episode, but was a little on the short side …

  5. Darren has a 9′ dick?!?! Now I get all those inside jokes you guy have been making since he came on.

I would love to see Doug playing a game of charades. I think you guys should do a video edition of that.

Overall you guys did really good without campea there, but the show does need him. Can you get him over the phone or anything while he is on the road?

  6. Where to begin.

Item #1. The AWOL Campea is slightly missed, but Doug and Darren you did a fairly decent job. Darren makes a fine Doug Nagy too.

Item #2: I don’t mind if WB sells DVDs in China, so long as they don’t put any extras on them, modify the image to fit the screen, bury them in the bowels of a Wal-Mat bin, and, most importantly, hit fuckin’ Hong Kong with all those snapper cases! You buy a DVD for a buck and a quarter, you freakin’ get a buck and a quarter’s worth.

Item #3: L/A films from Magna? You mention Guyver, but I know of at least two more.

Fist Of The North Star -can Downtown Julie Brown say cheese?

CRYING FREEMAN- starring Marc Dacascos, directed by Christophe Gans, whose current film is “Silent Hill” which took first in Box Office this past weekend. “Freeman” is considered too violent and erotic for US audiences; it would recieve an NC-17, and has never been available/seen in the US. It has been seen abroad.

    Item#.4: What?

Item #5: X-Men: I think there is another poster as well. his one has Magento, Juggernaut and a few others on it. This one loks alright, but it does not hold a candle to the X2 one sheets.

Item#6: George Lucas can do want he wants with his films. But he should still release the originals (THE originals) on DVD. make more mula hand over fist and getting the fanbase to zip the lip. As for 3-D, even James Cameron said he’d re-release Titantic in 3-D if he thought it was needed. Cameron does believe that 3-D filmmaking, such as his T2 3-D film in Universal parks, could deter download piracy:

    From the studio briefing/IMDB newswire:

“Digital 3-D cinema could be the motion picture industry’s strongest defense against piracy, Titanic director James Cameron said Sunday. Speaking at the National Association of Broadcasters’ Digital Cinema Summit in Las Vegas, Cameron said that Digital 3-D “offers a powerful experience which you can only have in the movie theater.” He lauded technology that permits virtually any film to be transformed into a 3-D version, and indicated that he is considering releasing his 1997 blockbuster Titanic in 3-D. “Digital 3-D is a revolutionary form of showmanship that is within our grasp. It can get people off their butts and away from their portable devices and get people back in the theaters where they belong,” he said.

    Item #7: No comment.

    -Sealer.

  7. What I would love to see in a 3D Star Wars movie are the lightsaber battles. 3D could make the battles 10 times more spectacular than ever, if brought on correctly of course. The space battles would be sweet as well; but 3D Jawas would kick ass more than anything.

Great job on the audio edition guys.

  8. You know, when I saw that John wasn’t going to be on the show, I almost didn’t download this one. But you guys did a solid job in John’s absence.

Hurry back John, but the show seems to be in good hands while you’re gone.
