Trailer: Studio Ghibli is BACK with THE RED TURTLE

I don’t cover NEARLY enough Anime around here. For those of you who are newer to TMB you may now know that I got my online start in the world of anime blogging and I dabble in art in my free time. That being said I LOVE Miyazaki movies and I always make time to take a look at the stuff from Studio Ghibili. Let’s check out the trailer for their latest film, The Red Turtle, below:

Man, this is a pretty smooth and fluid looking trailer. The backgrounds and colors are a little flat but there’s something about the fluidity of motion that makes this film stand out. The trailer for The Red Turtle reminds me of the Tom Hanks movie ‘Castaway‘ until the lady in the sea pops out. I’m pretty sure Tom Hanks, or any man for that matter, would re-think this leaving a tropical island thing if they have some company with them. Overall the film is really really inviting and does capture my curiosity to discover what the heck is going on with the red turtle? What happened to the little kid? Why is the turtle significant when the trailer shows us a film about a guy on a deserted island?

Not sure if this one will land on the radar. I didn’t like the flat colors used but I am willing to see more. What do you guys think? Yay or nay?

From acclaimed director Michael Dudok de Wit, and produced by the legendary Academy Award-winning animation house Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro), comes a magical castaway story that combines beauty, nature, and mystery. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated feature, The Red Turtle
is a stunning and touching animation about the transience of life.
