Robert DeNiro back to his mobster ways in ‘The Family’

I like DeNiro a helluva lot as an actor. I think he has a lot of range and can do a lot with his talent and some of his greatest successes revolve around his portrayal as an Italian mobster.  DeNiro will next play a mob boss in “The Family” but this particular role is a little different than past portrayals.  This time he’s playing the most loathed, reviled, and repulsive individual to anybody in “The Family”. He’s playing a snitch.

THE FAMILY follows a mafia boss (De Niro) and his family as they are relocated to a sleepy town in France under the witness protection program after snitching on the mob. Old habits die hard as the Manzonis utilize the “family” method to deal with new problems in a new town, enabling their former mafia cronies to track them down.

Director: Luc Besson

Writers: Luc Besson and Michael Caleo  (Based on the novel Malavita by Tonino Benacquista)
Cast: Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones, Dianna Agron, and John D’Leo

Seems fun, and we have a good amount of time before release. The film has some potential to be that ‘grounding’ movie that brings us back to reality after the summer release blitz.

That’s all for now…
