Favreau Confirms Black Panther Easter Egg In Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2 will be released on blu-ray and dvd on the 28th of September. Besides including an awesome sequel of a movie and some cool special features, director Jon Favreau has included some nice Easter Eggs. He has even started talking about some of the ones you might find interesting.

CinemaBlend reports:

During an interview on the newly released Iron Man 2 Blu-Ray (via Daily Blam), Favreau pointed out that on the S.H.I.E.L.D. screens were references to The Incredible Hulk and Captain America but also to Black Panther, an occasional Avengers member who isn’t yet confirmed to be part of the big Avengers movie. Apparently a map of the world on the screen pinpointed seven global locations, all of them relating to different Marvel characters. As Favreau said it:

“And if you think that anything on this monitors is not something we at Marvel didn’t talk about for hours – you are crazy! See, there is a map up there, so… if you look at those maps, each one of those locations corresponds to something in the Marvel Universe. I’m not supposed to say that. And if you look on each one, and I know what they mean, but I’m not gonna say it, but I’m gonna say this: Two of them relate to “The First Avenger: Captain America,” one of them relates to “Thor.” The one in Africa relates to Black Panther.”

That’s pretty cool of Favreau and Marvel to include. They’ve done this with all of their recent comic book based movies. Easter Eggs are a clever way of touching base or referencing other characters and events that exist in the same universe. Having one for the Black Panther, might suggest that he’s on Marvel’s radar. Maybe we’ll see him on The Avengers. Or maybe Marvel is seriously thinking about giving him a shot a a solo movie. We’ll see…

You getting the Iron Man 2 blu-ray/dvd? You interested in seeing more of the Black Panther? What has been the best Easter Egg Marvel has planted?

  1. i’m pretty sure Idris Elba really fit to play as Black Panther, alas he already in Thor. But if Chris Evans can be both Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers. Anything still possible

  2. When Iron Man 2 came out this “easter egg” was talked about for some time. The most common two guesses was either it was a reference to Black Panther or that it was related to the growing threat that The Avengers might face, such as a Skrull Invasion.

T’Chilla has been on the radar for some time, and it’s great that there is confirmation on the reference.
