The Karate Kid 2?

When you make so much money, another sequel is just around the corner. The Karate Kid is no exception. It made $50 million this past opening weekend. Let the buzz start…

IGN reports:

Speaking to MTV News, director Harald Zwart said that the team behind the movie have already kicked around some ideas.

“Every now and then we discussed it” he said. “But the truth is, when you see Jackie [Chan] and Jaden [Smith], they’re like a really good film couple. On and off camera, I was watching how they were pulling practical jokes on each other and throwing rocks in the lake, and you just want to keep looking at them because they have a great dynamic and great humor. We have just been playing with a few different ideas, but we haven’t landed on anything at the moment.”

However, it seems that a sequel would be unlikely to follow the template of the original Karate Kid Part II, with Zwart stating “I personally think it’s now so much on its own two feet, given the success, that it would be interesting to see where we could take it without ever thinking about the old ones.”

  1. A second movie would be a great idea. My son is 3 and he loves this movie. He watches it every day and is now very interested in kung fu and chinese culture. This is a great family movie and we cant wait for the sequal.

  2. This movie hit home on alot of levels, although i havnt seen the older ones, this movie was fantastic. i myself know what its like to move to a another country at such a young age and thought this film was absolutly great, cant wait to see another one

  3. i think u should really make it as a sequel and make it kinda like the original one but some changes to it. well kinda like where u changed stuff in the first karate kid movie. but i think u should really really make it as the sequel. plus i loved the remake of the karate kid movie.

    1. The new sequel does not have to copy the original Karate Kid’s sequel but there are definitely things that could be explored and developed as part of the storyline for the new sequel for example: Will Master Li seek help revenge using the help of other fighters, any history behind the relationship between Mr Han and Master Li (as someone commented above) and what happens to Master Li’s students especially the boy he fought in the final fight.

  4. I think a sequel has potential for the story of Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. Only this time, who will play the main bad guy?

Jaden made peace with ‘Cheng’ at the end of the film, with all of his crownies bowing to Jackie Chan. This could have hinted that they either respected him? Or wanted to train under him instead of their ‘Master Li’.

Now, for some reason during the film, Jackie Chan looked hesitant when matters of ‘Master Li’ came up. Going to his Dojo with Jaden, he was somewhat hesitant. When ‘Master Li’ put his hand on Jackie Chan’s chest to keep him from leaving the Dojo, Jackie Chan seemed hesitant, and almost frightened.

Could the sequel perhaps tell of some events that happened between Jackie Chan and ‘Master Li’? And also, Jackie Chan knew ‘Master Li’s name without the guy even introducing himself. It made it seemed like he had either heard of him or had some history with him.

  5. THe movie remake is good, the similarities like how he met his friend, and the girl, the maintenance man and others. and also how he got to the competition, the scene where mr. miyagi saved daniel from the cobra kai and the scene between lucille and daniel, where daniel said to her mother that he wanna go home, that he hated that place… the scene where mr. miyagi was drunk and telling what happened to his family, the scene where daniel said to mr. miyagi that he is the best friend he ever had and all. it was just like the karate kid 2.

  6. I really enjoyed the remake of “The Karate Kid” I have millions of reasons why, but i would be here for ever so Firstly, I love Jaden Smith loads& Jackie Chan also takes a brilliant part. Due to the fact that he is a real stunt man and he is a expert at Kung Fu, and i really like the way he tought Jaden Smith(Dre) in the film, i thought it was an amazing idea. To say that this is the first film Jaden has had to learn his own stunts in, I honestly think he has done a fantastic job. Let me just say something about all the negetive comments, i think that the negetive comments i have read are untrue Because i have nothing wrong about this movie at all and most people agree with me. I am so glad that Will Smith wanted Jaden to do his own stunts because it makes the film more realistic that the fact a twelve year old does all of his own stunts. Now there is just 1 thing out of 1 million that i am not sure abput and that is the backflip at the end. I dont know if it is real or not it looks real but i am not sure but apart from that i really enjoyed the film and i give a 10/10 rating for it. Well done to Will Smith, Jada Picket Smith, Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan & the film produces. :)

  7. I like the new movie, its a great movie even if you have or havent seen the original, and I’d like to see a sequel whether or not its a remake or independant

  8. karate kid is the best film out. i have always wanted to be an actress and i am inspired by this movie.i have been seaching on the internet for adoitions for a year now and i just need to say that this vilm is that good i mean fantastic that i can’t wait till karate kid 2 if they make a second one and they should
    see ya

  9. I think that in the karate kid 2 they should go back to America or where they came from originally and he should get a chance to show his move and improve with wrestling teachers or take it from there ……………….

  10. Being a big fan of the original Karate Kid, I have to admit I was worried about this remake. Well the wife and kids took me to the movie for father’s day and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I would absolutely love to see a 2nd one. I too thought it would be hard to follow suit of KK2, being that they were already in China. If I was rating the remake of Karate Kid on a star basis I would give it 4 and 1/2 stars.

  12. I’ve yet to see the recent one but from I’ve heard people talking about its a pretty good movie and frankly we’ve seen franchises made out of less. Perhaps something where Chan takes in another kid and said new kid a bit of a rivalry sparks between them.

Let’s say from there they kinda go at it but the second film ends with them facing off at a tournament Leave this second movie ending on a cliffhanger (like not actually showing who won) to setup for a third. Third movie starts off after a time jump of a few years with Smith’s character living in America again. After having two movies to establish his character in this their film he is acting out of character. In short he’s a troubled kid who kept the moves but abandoned the discipline of kung fu. As the movie progresses it is shown what happened in that fight at the end of the second movie, why he is back in America, and why his attitude changed.
