“Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” Trailer

Ok, I’ve gotta admit I absolutely love the sound of this project and I can’t wait to see it. There is a new film coming in 2010 from Chris Columbus (the director of such films as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Mrs. Doubtfire, Rent, Home Alone and several others) titled “Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief“. The film (which the studio hopes to turn into a franchise) is based on the popular five-book Percy Jackson & The Olympians series.

The film isn’t scheduled to come out until next year, but they’ve got a teaser trailer up online already… and for a teaser trailer it’s pretty damn near perfect when you consider what a teaser is supposed to do.

The movie is about a kid who discovers that he is actually the half human son of the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon. The story them follows him as he tries to find his mother and the stolen lightning bolt of the high god Zeus… all while trying to prevent a civil war amongst the gods.

And check out this cast: Kevin McKidd as Poseidon; Sean Bean as Zeus; Steve Coogan as Hades; Ray Winstone as Ares; Uma Thurman as Medusa; Pierce Brosnan as Chiron; Rosario Dawson as Persephone; and Catherine Keener (The 40 Year Old Virgin) as the kid’s mom.

I can’t wait to see this.

  1. OK these books are insanly good, but they changed the story a lot in the movie. I really hope the movie is as good as the book. Logan Lerman is the perfect Percy, I love him!! He’s a little too old for Percy, but its OK. Looking forward to the movie!!

    1. It’s just The Lightning Thief. Heh. If they TRIED to do that, it’d be funny and horrible all at once, largely because, well… trying to cram that much would be like trying to make three Harry Potter books into one movie.

  2. I like most of the cast except for Annabeth and Athena for a couple of reasons. 1) Alexandra Daddrio would make Annabeth look like she’s 20 or 25. 2) Annabeth has blond hair and Alexandra Daddrio has dark brown. Melina Kankaredes shouldn’t be playing Athena. She looks nothing like Athena. This movie will be a lot better if they change Annabeth and Athena but mostly Annabeth. I’m a HUGE FAN of this series and I’ve read each book 2 or 3 times because this is my favorite series. Anyone else agree with me about the cast??

  3. I, personally, think this movie is going to suck. I’m sorry, I mean I absolutly LOVE these books, i finished all the books, 1-5, in one week! But every actor/actress in this movie is desgusting, they do not fit the characters they are supposed to play, like Athena and Aphrodite?!?!?!?! They definitly DON’T fit the characters looks and Grover?!?!?! He looks nothing like that!!!!!!!!!!!
As I watched the actor/actresses that are going to play in this fantastic book series I just got madder and madder because they did not look like that for example:
    1. Annabeth
    Reason:
She doesn’t look like a 12 year old at all she looks 25 in that picture!!!
Also, she needs blonde hair and it needs 2 be curly.
    2. I always imagined Posiedon (THE SEA GOD, and Percy’s father) to have black hair because Percy needs to have some resemblance to his father not just his eyes (i hope they ddnt mess that up to)
    3. Athena needs to be pretty for Pete’s sake!! I kno she’s the Goddess of well, smarts, wit, cleverness, and all around thinking, and the actress that plays her doesn’t look at all a beauty worthy of the title GODDESS!!
    4. Aphrodite on the other hand NEEDS TO BE ABSOLUTLY STUNNING, JAW DROPPINGLY GEORGEUS, BEAUTIFUL, AND NEEDS TO MAKE EVERY GIRL WHO LOOKS AT HER, (mortal form or not) ENVY, DISPISE, AND JUST PLAIN JEALOUS OF HER!! THAT ACTRESS DOESN’T EVEN DESERVE THE NAME of pretty!!!!! UGH!!!

I, am a HUGE Harry Potter fan, and I DONT like you people dissing it and talking about Twilight this, twilight that, i HATED twilight for the following reasons,

    1. Has anyone heard of Buffy the Vampire? twilight is a copy,
girl falls for hot guy, guy is a vampire, girl becomes the “damsel in distress”, vampire saves her. NEXT BOOK. guy dumps girl to “save” her, girl is depressed, guy gets himself in trouble, girl saves him, NEXT BOOK. girl gets in trouble, guy wants to save her, guy saves her, mairrage, oh yes! they r engaged, NEXT BOOK (LAST). girl finally becomes vampire, they are happy, oh no! a problem, they almost fight, “oh no! its a misunderstanding, SORRY! ok, we wont fight!” happy ending!!!
thts basically the whole saga in tht little paragraph, but yah they have some “i love you! i love you too!”
    2. bella is always the damsel in distress and she never tries to save herself or do anything selfless (the only selfless thing she does is save her mother which btw, she messes up!)
    3. people say they are like bella, but when i ask y they say that, they say, “Cuz she’s clumsy and so am i” and im like, “…”

    1. You really put your finger on the whole Buffy and Twilight thing. There have been vampire dramas in Japan(in both comic and cartoon form) for decades, but they always find different and unique ways to pull it off.

    2. lol i totally agree. and bella in the end got everything she wanted and no one in the book died (which made it REALLY boring) and the author makes little details seem too long. and i honestly have to say, breaking dawn did not appeal to me whatsoever… to me it failed.

and yeah harry potter is waaaayyy better.
(no im not trying to diss anyone or nothing)

    3. i love your comment :D its awesome!!! and well im also disappointed too because we dont see all the other gods and goddess in the first book we see ares and the big three. and they somehow have all of them in the movie the only major gods we see on olympus is zeus and poseidon, we see hades in the underworld and we see ares at the lil diner in denver. we see a glimpse of athena in the second book the sea of monsters and we also see hermes in that one too, we dont see aphrodite till the 3rd book the titans curse. im sad that we see medusa’s face no offence to uma therman but ur not supposed to see her face the middle eastern woman who is like a grandma lol we only see the big 3 once so yup i still want to see this movie but im sad at how much they are changing it and turning it away from the book :(

  4. This is based off a series of kids books – when I first started reading this I said that I would love to see this made into a movie. Greek mythology is intersting but this is from a child’s point of view.

Hopefully the action is interest as there are supposed to be some interesting fights in the books, and hopefully the costumes do not look cheesy, but all in all it will be nice to see how this will turn out.

Since this is coming from the director of Harry Potter, I’m assuming it wont be low budget and crappy like the Twilight movie was (loved the books detested the movie, even though i am VERY excited about New Moon), BUT that being said, it’ll be nice for people who have read the book to see how the images in their minds come to life on the screen.

Hopefully the author has a lot of input and does not want to deviate too much from how the book tells the story, but either way I think i’ll be more pleased with this than I was with the Twilight movie.
    ~H~

  5. I’ve read the books, which are pretty much a riot. It should be interesting to see how the story is transferred and what they’ll change, and how much. And btw, the idea of the gods in these books is that they have arguments in the family sense.
Hopefully they won’t mess it up too much, and it’ll be funny, so that they can continue onwards with the other books. I believe there’s a lot of potential in the other books for films. But it all depends…

  6. Honestly, it looks like a neat idea, but there’s really not much style to it. Come on, man. Is the son of Zeus himself really supposed to look like your typical teenage kid? Half the male protagonists in book series’ these days look like this guy.

There’s a lot of potential for action too; none of which they’ll exploit, I’m sure. It would be so cool, though. I mean, this is a story about gods. Can you imagine what it would be like if two gods fought? It would be insane. Neo would have nothing on it. Same with angels and demons fighting. Did anyone read Dante’s poem, Purgatorio? An angel flies past him so fast his eyes could barely catch it. Can you imagine what it’s like when these angels and the fallen demons face off? That’s what it should be like when gods are in conflict.

Which, by the way, I think it’s quite retarded that a little boy wants to stop a civil war between immortal gods. I mean, what’s he going to do? If gods want to fight, they are going to fight. They are thousands upon thousands of years older and know far better, as well. If they are fighting, there must be a reason.

    1. Ok jake listen good Percy jackson and the olympians is going to be the best movie of 2010(so far that i’ve seen) it has plenty of style to it but i do’t think a movie needs a whole bunch of style to it when its loaded with action. If you think this sounds retarted did you ever see harry potter had no style and that little boy is sooooooooooo retarted.Maybe you should read the book then post another entry. And mabey a war between the gods would not be a good thing and would suck epically

      P.S.
      Way to go off topic

    2. What are you talking about, exactly? The Harry Potter films have loads of style. And whereas HP is about the discovery of magic Percy Jackson is about a civil war between the gods of Olympia themselves. That’s a premise that would really fall flat on it’s face if there was no epic action, at least in some form. It’s gotta let you know it’s there.

And yeah, of course I know that he’s the son of Poseidon. I’m honestly not sure why I typed, “Zeus”.

And by the way, there’s no possible way you could know that it’s the best film of 2010. Firstly because not every film in the lineup has been officially announced, and also because, well, quite frankly, you haven’t even watched them.

“And mabey a war between the gods would not be a good thing and would suck epically”

…says the mortal to a group of ethereal gods that are thousands upon thousands of years older.

      1. ok so this movie might be really good or really bad but think about the premise of the this book its greek mythology and in greek mythology the gods do tend to act like spoiled brats who react harshly and unsympathetically to the littlest of things they are petty and conniving at times and its always the work of the hero who is a demi-god to set things right so really this story works and Zeus and Poseidon are fighting over the lightning bolt and the broken promise zeus blames poseidon for it being stolen wisdom does not always come with age my dear jake remember that

  7. Well, I’ve already read the series and I’m very dissapointed with the cast, but let the book be the book and let the movie be the movie.. All in All I think it’ll be great.. I am in LOVE with PJatOS so yea.. Also this teaser trailer appears in theators when you go to see Harry Potter 6 .. ^_^

  8. o my gods before i thought it might end up like eragon but know that i’ve seen the trailer i’m very sure this is going to be like the book (thanks chris) though if the movies good and they get another dude to direct the other movies i will hunt those idiots down and force them to put you back in the movie

    1. OMG! This movie is going to be so AWESOME! The Books are great! Annabeth is a little wrong though. They ned to dye her hair and make it curly. Its so going to be better than Twilight if its done right!

  9. I saw this teaser before it got uploaded by John and i must say it looks damn fun. I love fun, full of entertainment films and this one looks in that category.
    I’ll see it.

  10. Oh and John btw don’t expect this movie to be dark or have big intense action scenes.

The books are heavy on comedy and do have some great action but the first two-three books are more geared towards the kids.

I fully expect this movie to be PG.

So ya don’t be dissapointed if it turns out to be way different then you thought it would.

    1. I fee what you mean man. You gotta remember though that chris Columbus is somewhat of a flip flop director. Sometimes he makes really good movies and sometimes very bad movies. But ya beth cooper is definitely his worst flick so far. Every guy has that one very bad movie on his resume so I will forget it. I am glad they didn’t pimp his name on beth cooper i.e “from director of HP1 and HP2”.

Instead they are using that for this movie. Smart move by fox.
