The Spirit Teaser Boring and Ugly

As many of you have already seen, the very first teaser trailer for Frank Miller’s “The Spirt” came out in the last few days. Now let me say this… I understand that this is just a teaser… so having said that… what a BORING and dumb teaser. The visual style has also lost all its novelty to me and didn’t even look remotely as good as it did in 300 or Sin City. So far I’m not interested at all. It is just a teaser, and I’m just giving my opinion of the teaser… and that opinion is sucky.

  1. You’re totally off base John. This is going to be a very good movie. The only reason you don’t care for it is because it isn’t a geek flick… You know wizards, robots, and giant green men.

  2. Is it just me or does this guy looks like a clumsy mofo with the way he moves. I’m not familiar with the original comics so I have no idea what to expect.

  3. wow. this looks like a live action frank miller comic. right down to the converse soles.

unless you’re familiar with the seismic change frank miller introduced to comics (with his first sin city book) most audience members may see this as a sin city MOVIE rip-off. but this looks like frank miller thru and thru (as did sin city). and it most likely will be paced like one of his comics.

on one hand i’m curious to see this. on the other i’m a little dismayed as i was more interested in seeing a movie styled more to WILL EISNER’s comics. while mr. miller is a talented comic stylist, mr. eisner was a master storyteller and a damn fine artist.

i will be following this closely.

  4. I thought this teaser showcased how stylish and fun the action could be in an artsy sort of presentation, without giving anything too ‘high octane’ away up front. We’ll have to wait for a theatrical trailer to get a better taste of where it might actually be going.

For some reason, even though it was just a man in a red tie jumping around…I really got a kick out of the execution of the moves! I am very excited to see this.

  5. I didn’t mind neither the teaser or the style, but I’m not convinced about Frank Miller as a director. It’s been quite a few years since any of his comics have been instant classics, and this smacks of an artist that’s creatively lost at sea desperately trying something new.

  6. ugh. imho.
i dont mind the visual style of the sin city movie if thats what this is, it still has to be done well to be effective and interesting. but i dont think i would be able to sit through another movie of frank miller voiceovers. 90 minutes of that is just UNBEARABLE. i know its suppose to be campy and pulpy but UGH.

  7. I also like it, It does seem like hes merging it with his own style but spirt does suit that style. I ll wait till the film for final judgement, I m still not sold on millar as a director, but regarding the fact he is an awesome writer and an artist I wouldnt put it past him that he wouldnt excel on this front either.

  8. This is VERY early in the post-production phase, so I wonder why they even released this teaser at all. The finished film will look A LOT better I’m sure.

What becomes obvious is that they are clearly trying to market this as SIN CITY 2.

  9. looks fuckin awesome. havent heard anything from that movie but now im looking forward to it (sin city was bad). so much more movies should look like that (especially comic book movies).
oh and you get tired of that look? what about 99,9999% of the other movies then? they also look the same (meaning filmed as any other movie), getting tired of those also?

  10. Now I haven’t read many Spirit stories but I don’t remember him being the acrobatic in the stories. He certainly was never this dark.
It doesn’t help them shake any Sin City rip off accusations with the word “city” in their slogan and on the teaser poster.

  11. I’m all for trailers not giving away too much of the movie but this doesn’t give us anything. People who have no knowledge of the comics (myself included) are just going to think it’s a cheap rip-off of Sin City. I certainly hope the full trailer is better.

  12. we’re on a roll as I totally agree. Frank Miller has just taken the spirit and tried to make it look like his comics.

This is a pretty bad teaser.
