3:10 To Yuma Sneak Peak

Yuma-SmallerProbably my most anticipated movie of the late summer is coming a little bit early. 3:10 To Yuma is set to be released on September 7th, but we’ve just got word that they are opening up in theaters just a little early to give us an advanced taste. The film will be in theaters on Sunday September 2nd for just one day, and then open again on September 7th as planned.

That really makes this upcoming weekend an interesting one since there are already 3 other movies opening this coming weekend that I’m wanting to see. Balls of Fury (which will be bad, but I’m hoping with also have some good laughs), The Nines, and most of all Death Sentence (oh man that movie is going to rule). Now on top of that, we’ve got 3:10 To Yuma on Sunday as well. It’s going to be a busy weekend.

Part of my excitement is that to me… this is HEAT all over again. Crowe and Bale in the same movie is something I don’t think a lot of people appreciate as much as they will say 10 years from now. Crowe is the single best actor of our generation bar none… so add Bale and the director from Walk The Line and you’ve got something to look forward to! I can’t wait for Sunday!

  1. I’m with John on this one. I’ll take Crowe over all the other actors mentioned. Just seems to make every movie I’ve seen him in more interesting.

Side note – don’t forget that he and Denzel did share the screen in the 1995 instant classic (kidding) Virtuosity. Haven’t seen it since then, but I remember enjoying Crowe’s sometimes over the top performance as the villain. Neither’s best performance, but that was the first I’d seen of Crowe.

  2. BTW, JOhny Depp is far better than Crow in my opinion. THey both have almost equal oscar noms. Sure Crow has an oscar, but does that really matter. DOes a handful of people who vote matter on what the majority of people think? Jamie Fox has an oscar, does that make him a better actor than Depp, or dicapro, or peter o’tool, because they don’t? Hell no, and if you say yes, shame on you. Martin scorsese never got an oscar before last year, did that make Clint eastwood a better director than him, because he had 2?. No way.

To say Crow has crazy range is insane on your part. Every role Russel has played, and every role you menchoined, he is basically being the same person. A manly man who could probably kick your ass. Which who he basically is in real life. It wasn’t that he upstaged Al pacino, The character was far more important than Al pacinos character. Russel did a great job in Beautiful mind, but that really wasn’t much of a stretch, he just did some screaming and pretended to be crazy. Imagaine what Johnny could have done with that role?? LOL, he is the master at playing crazies.

Johnny depp has more Depth. He can play any role you want him to. Crow can’t. Depp can be a clean cut buisness man, or a dark phsyopath. ANd he makes every character interesting, and weird. His acting is always incrdible, and memorable. Crows isn’t. Crow is sort of boring.

Johnny is definatly the fan favorite who is destined for a oscar, but lets look at whos having bigger succes, box office wise. Johnny carried the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time(pofc2) with the same charcter he was nominated for an oscar for( never seen a disney kids charcter get nominated for oscar.) And btw, that movie would have absolutly failed without him. He also carried Charlie and the chocalte factory in to box office succes, made 206,459,076 domesticaly, and 474,968,763 worldwide. Wasn’t a great movie, but Depps performance alone made it succesful.

Now, most of Crows movies have never been a big success except for Gladiator. Cinderella man absolutly bombed, and this last movie he did about a rich man who finds a big house, which no one even remembers exsisted, completly bombed. Why?? because Crow doesn’t have star power. He can’t carry a movie like Depp can. Everyone knows when they go to see a depp movie, he’s going to be spectacular.

Again, Depp has depth, Crow doesn’t .

  3. I have to say, as a true western fan, I’m not excited about this. First of all it was painful listening to Russel crow try to cover his obvious accent. And on top of that, trying to sound western. I could spot it a mile away. Christian Bale pulled it off, but It’s christian Bale.

The story is nothing like the original from what I can see in the trailer. THe original is more of a character study, how Dan evans changes throughout the film, and Ben changes aswell. Not a spoiler, don’t worry, from what i hear their not going with that in this movie.

And at last, all the pointless action. Just so you know, the original really didn’t have much action at all. But ofcourse this generation can’t go 10 seconds without huge explosions, and people blowing up. It’s sad.

THats not what westerns were ever about. THey were never about action. And most classic westerns don’t have that much action, but when the action happens, it’s usually very memorable. I havn’t seen a great modern western since Unforgiven.

But it looks like Jesse james might actually bring it back. God i hope so.

  4. Hey John! Forgot to mention “Heaven’s Burning”… that’s a Crowe’s great movie… haha… his best acting just 3 years before he did his famous “Gladiator”… haha… c’mon, “best actor” is a big title, that suits just huge for Crowe’s performances in my opinion.

I agree, he’s a good actor, entertaining one, but where are Sean Penn (wich I actually hate, but cannot deny his talent, I’d be a prick if I do that), Al Pacino, Robert de Niro, Dustin Hoffman??? They all made great movies with great performances, that appear to me way better than Crowe-forever-tone-of-voice’s once! And they also went from one genre to other one, succeding in every of them… I don’t think they are under Crowe’s performances in anyway!

I agree it’s your opinion, but in that case “my best actor” would have suited better!

  5. why not Denzel? he can upstage anyone on any given sunday.

Either way, crowe is a great actor that anyone would have a troubled time trying to discredit as an actor. He is phenomenal. I just don’t agree that any one actor can be classified as the “best”.

He may have the best agent…

  6. I don’t always agree with John, Poppe. But Depp, as he said, is no Crowe. Depp is entertaining yes, but with Crowe you get something shall I say deeper? Put it this way, I can get bored with Depp but not Crowe.

  7. Hey Poppe

Depp a better actor than Crowe? I’ve got to 100% disagree with you and here’s why:

Depp (who I REALLY like as an actor by the way) has never in his career showed 1 10/th of the pure range and diversity that Crowe has, nor is he able to establish a strong presence like Crowe. I certainly give the nod to comedic timing and charm to Depp, but in just about every other area Crowe is by far a superior actor.

When you totally upstage Al Pacino (The Insider… nominated for best actor for that roll), then do something like Gladiator (Won the Oscar for Best actor) then move on to an insanely complex character like he did in Beautiful Mind (also nominated for Best actor), then pull out your best performance for a film like Cinderella Man, Master and Commander…. yadda yadda yadda.

I love Depp. But he is no Russell Crowe.

  8. What exactly does, Crowe is the single best actor of our generation bar none, mean? our generation is that your generation or … I don’t think I understand it, and Depp is by far the better actor IMO born in the 60s.

And for me my generation is the actors born in the 80s and maybe 70s.

And in there I call Gosling my choice for best actor
