Wolverine Gets A Director

Wolverine-DirectorThe Wolverine movie has a director… and it’s NOT Brett Ratner (and all around the world you can hear a large collective sigh of relief). The man with adamantium blades popping out of his hands is indeed getting his own film (recently some people have been speculating the project might not happen), and he will b e in the hands of Oscar winning director Gavin Hood.

Yahoo News gives us the following:

Gavin Hood is suiting up to direct “Wolverine,” 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men” spinoff that will star Hugh Jackman. Hood, who won a foreign-language Oscar in 2005 for directing “Tsotsi,” recently wrapped “Rendition,” New Line Cinema’s political thriller starring Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal.

I really know nothing about Hood other than the fact that I loved Tsotsi… which really is nothing like Wolverine… at all. But still, I’ve always said that brining talent on board a project is never a bad idea. This is the first sign of true life we’ve seen in the Wolverine project… and with this announcement, I won’t be surprised if we do indeed see a Wolverine film in 2008.

I think with this announcement, it’ll probably start an avalanche of Wolverine news and updates. Let’s see what comes out next.

  1. Im from South Africa and Gavin Wood is a South African Director that makes awesome beuatiful films! And Im glad we are starting to show what we are made of in Hollywood!

I just wish we could get better movies made in our country tsotsi was a great movie, and I think it waas one of the greatest movies to come out of our country in 20years! Me make really crappy movies sometimes!

BUt really Im stoked about the Wolverine movie! Only thing that Im really worried about is that I dont know if Gvin wood is used to CGI and all that stuff, dont get me wrong I know you dont need all that to make agreat movie but damm, you will need that in a movie like Wolverine?

  2. Well it’s safe to say that Gavin Hood was not their first choice.

Bryan Singer, D.J. Caruso have both decided to do other things and either the execs came to their senses over Len Wiseman or he turned them down too.

I’m hearing the script ain’t great and this is set to be a vanity project for Jackman. Hope I’m wrong because a Wolverine movie could be killer and they actually have remarkably found themselves a worthy director.

  3. Wow. I suppose getting the Totsi helmer is seriously thinking out of the box or that Reese Witherspoon pic is going to be fantastic…or both. I actually was thinking Len Weisman for awhile…I even liked one of DJ Caruso’s films…but hey, Gavin Hood is more of an asset, I think. He doesn’t come with a lot of …what’s a way to say it…”preconception baggage”.

and Len Wiesman or DJ Caruso can be considered for other projects…

And I still see ‘Wolverine’ in late 2008. (“X-Mas”)

  4. at last Seth Grimes,

We agree on something. *looks around for Apocalypse signs such as asteroids in the skies…sighs goes back to typing*
Man Deadpool is THE MAN, the merc with a mouth! Alas I doubt he will appear in this movie…*cries*

  5. I wouldnt have thought Gavin Hood would be doing this,but,never-the-less im optimistic about this film.I think this could be a really great film.Im hoping it will include some of the cooler X-men like Gambit or(my personal favorite)DEADPOOL.

  6. Relieved beyond words that Brett Ratner is not directing!

Now let’s hope with a good director in place that the script doesn’t F the whole thing up.

  7. Ok, talent is talent, no arguments there. My only concern now is that Fox is going to be crazy enough to try and get this out for summer (i’m guessing late July or August will be when they want it for).

I can’t see Wolverine standing much of a chance against Bond 22 and Harry Potter 6 in November.

  8. Glad to hear a good comic book film getting a great director. Tsotsi was a wonderful film, and everyone should check it out … can’t way to see how deep this movie will be

  9. About time they got a Director on board. Looking forward to this. I am one those sighs of relief that Brett Ratner was not given the Helm on this one. Hopefully it will be great.
