Highlander: The Search for Vengeance

Highlander-VengenceWhenever I see or hear of another Highlander project, my body’s first reaction is normally to shed tears… and not tears of joy either. The original Highlander (yikes!!! now over 20 years old) was one of the most imaginative and amazing films I’ve ever seen. A modern context fantasy / sci-fi film that set the bar for all to follow (in my opinion anyway). What came after the original was a series of horrible abominations that spit on the legacy of the first one. The TV show was ok in its own way… but nothing compared to the magic of the first.

Many of you know that another Highlander movie is set to get released soon featuring the characters from the TV show. But there is another Highlander project on its way to DVD coming out June 5th. The good folks over at MoviesOnline give us this:

The Highlander series enters a new dimension June 5th, when Manga Entertainment and Starz Home Entertainment release the animated Highlander: The Search for Vengeance on DVD. In the tradition of “Vampire Hunter D” and “Ninja Scroll”, anime wizard Yoshiaki Kawajiri brings his unique visual bravura to the immortal Highlander franchise.

In this gripping new adventure, lone warrior Colin MacLeod travels across a desolate landscape searching for the immortal despot Marcus Octavius, who long ago murdered his beloved Moya. Together with his companion, the wise-cracking ghost Amergan, MacLeod discovers New York in ruins, with one monolith fortress dominating a city ravaged by a deadly virus.

I’m sorry, but that sounds lame as hell. ANOTHER FREAKING MACLEOD??? That makes 3 of them now. Please. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for trying an animated project… but this sounds terrible. A ghost traveling companion???
