Indiana Jones Now 64

When you think of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, is that picture what you think of? Well, Harrison Ford just celebrated his 64th birthday. Indiana Jones is 64. Does anyone still really think they’re going to make an Indiana Jones 4 movie? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

I’ve said all along (for about 5 years now) that the story of an older Indiana Jones interests me. But now this is just getting silly. Let’s put this into perspective shall we? At 64, Harrison Ford is now:

– 5 years OLDER than Sean Connery was when they made Last Crusade

– 4 years OLDER than Ian McKellen was when he played Gandalf in the first Lord of the Rings movie

– 2 years OLDER than Alec Guinness was when he played Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars

– 6 years OLDER than James Earl Jones was when he was in Field of Dreams

– 2 years OLDER than Kris Kristofferson was as Whistler in Blade

You get the point.

So… who still wants to see another Indiana Jones movie? Keep in in mind. Even if they announced it today, the very earliest they’d start shooting is next year when he’s 65. Yeah, this is NEVER going to happen.

  1. Matthew Mcconaughey would be an excellent choice to take over the Indiana Jones role. His performance in Sahara convinced me. He has the right stuff. I’m beginning to wonder as to whether or not the 4th installment will ever get made. If so, I’ll be in line!

  2. I willing to bet any amount of money that this WILL happen.

65 really isn’t that old, especially when you figure in how great of shape Harrison Ford is for his age. Look at all of those guys you listed above that Mr. Ford is now older than. Yeah, he right NOW looks younger than any of them did at that time, and he’s in far better physical shape.

Indy 4 will happen and I will be the first in line to see it.

  3. INDY RULES!!!! MAKE THE MOVIE!!!

I think it’ll happen. Not for any valid reasons, but we were never supposed to see Rocky 6 and that’s happening. :D

It’ll be a 3 gen movie. Indy’s kid would get most of the action roles, although Indy would always be in some sort of trouble.

Who knows… Offer anyone enough money, and things get done.

  4. I’d be happier if they stopped teasing and announced a Young Indiana Jones movie. I liked the few episodes I saw and they’d do well to cast a young kid (but NOT a famous one) and come up with some all new adventure. Ford will always be Indy, you can’t do a Bond and recast him, that would be a horrible mistake, but going back to the Young Indy idea is the next best thing. As long as Spielberg and Lucas are on board it will still be an Indiana Jones movie.

  5. Well now that you put it like that John, I don’t know what to think. I can’t beleive he’s 5 years older than Connery was in crusade. God that is weird.

  6. Time to move on, unless they plan to digitally reduce Ford’s age throughout the WHOLE movie like they did at the beginning of X3 with Stewart and McKellan.

  7. Hey 1138,

I wish it could happen too. I love the character. But I’ve lost all faith Lucas and Spielberg will actually do it. It’s far too late, and they’re both just making themselves busier by the day.

    I hope you’re right.

  8. Hey John,

    “Never say Never”.

I know Ford is old and yeah it is disappointing that I and every other Indy fan never got to see another Indy pic with Ford in his prime.

But would I like or love to see another jones movie ? You bet your ass! A movie by Lucas, Speilberg and Ford still after all this time gets my juices flowing. Yeah I know they aren’t at the top of their game anymore, with Lucas and his failed trilogy, Steven and his up and down filmmaking, and Ford’s fall from grace as the king of movies…but you know, I would still be interested in their collaboration.

They still have the ability to produce magic better than anyone today. Even inspite of their recent faux pas projects, they inderstand structure, narrative, arcs and character better than the recent hack directors that have emerged.

And most importantly they understand BLOCKBUSTER! And in a age when the most recent blockbusters have become LACKLUSTER, an Indy pic still sounds great to me.

I know you don’t believe anything will come of Indy 4 John, and I understand and accept all the reasons why, but I can’t give up…yet.

Still love the character and the movies and would just love to see one last one…one last ride on the Indy Machine.
