  1. are you seriously thinking of stopping the show?that would be a fucking shame…..

My definition of a teaser is quite similar to wikipedias definition:

The purpose of the teaser trailer is not to show a bunch of out-of-context clips in order to give the audience an understanding about the movie’s plot or theme, but rather to let them know that the movie is coming up in the near future, and to add to the hype of the upcoming movie event.

  3. First, I love that most of the people are so torn up over what defines a teaser trailer and whether the Spiderman one is a teaser or not. That’s hilarious.
Second, both the Transformers and Spiderman teaser trailers are awesome. I am excited about them both. It’s going to be a great summer next year.
Third, Ebert is a good writer, but he is a terrible critic. I normally don’t like to call someone’s taste bad, but his taste seems to be getting worse in his old age. I don’t know what the deal is, but he is getting more and more forgiving of the crap throwaway films.
Fourth, Fantastic Four was a fun movie. I wish that Elisabeth Shue would have played Sue Storm though. She would have fit the part much better. I think Alba is hot, but Shue would have been much better for the part. My big beef with the film was that it had so many holes and the special effects on Mr. Fantastic were horrible. It was very crappy looking.
Fifth, I don’t have anything to say about the rating scale, but it’s great.
Sixth, I agree about killing Katie Holmes. But you never know, she might get taken to the mothership if Hubbard has his way. You gotta love those crazy scientologists.
Seventh, Jay is exactly right about the Wolverine “Origin” storyline. If that’s what they used as a basis for the film, it would be amazing. I mean, talk about a gripping origin story. It is really stellar. I thought the same thing when I was hearing about the bone claws. That is the way they should go. It includes Sabretooth and everything.
Eighth, Daniel Craig is going to be great as Bond. I saw Layer Cake when I thought Matthew Vaughn was going to direct X-Men, and then I started hearing stuff about Craig as Bond and I thought that was a perfect fit. He does a great job in that and is going to be an amazing Bond. Plus the Casino Royale storyline is really good, so it should be fun to watch.
    Ninth, Rob Schneider is poo.

  4. My own personal definition of a movie trailer is that it should give you an understanding about the movie’s plot or theme.

  5. I agree 100%, it’s called a teaser, but indeed it was a trailer. A short not so expleicative “trailer” but indeed more of a “trailer” than a “teaser”. If only you would have a look at other “teasers” you can clearl see how it’s not in the same category. And yes the first promo is usually a “teaser” but this is definatively not that.

  6. are you seriously thinking of stopping the show?that would be a fucking shame…..

and what is up with those film rot guys? if i was you i would stop giving them praise…they seem very bitter and jealous of other shows/websites…..

  7. Yo again beejag from good Ol Buffalo here, i forgot to mention on the spiderman TEASER
:O anyways, my reason for calling it a teaser is thus, a teaser should show a couple scenes, get us excited and pumped to see more, while a trailer, should show some of the films plot and or story, and at the same time be on the lengthy end of 2-3 min or so this might just be how i percieive somethings like this but im fairly certain that was a Teaser.

    Later – beejag

  8. Actually, we weren’t fighting. It was a nice lil’ discussion. Campea doesn’t go apeshit when you disagree with him, unlike those nutbags at AICN.

  9. I can’t believe people are actually willing to fight, no, bicker over what to define the Spiderman trailer (or teaser) is..Really, in the end, does it really matter that much?

  10. Ok if the 4th villain was good ole Bruce i would be extemely happy about that plus it would be shit cool. But i’m not getting my hopes up,,,tee hee it would be cool thought. Come on you all know it would be, plus the fact that Raimi would never leave him out of spidey, so he is in there somewhere!

  11. The 4th villian in Spider-Man : Bruce Campbell as Mysterio (small part and somehow explains his cameos in the last 2 movies)

The Marvel Comic entitled Origins explained that Wolverine is over 100 yrs old. This is supposed to be cannon now, and the bone claws were there as a teen.

Batman and the Joker never really needed to have any connection other than they were both nuts with different ways of doing things. While I had no problem with Katie Holmes in Batman Begins, I will accept killing her off if it means that there will be no other woman as Batman’s love interest. Him being Batman always gets in the way of the realtionship and you can’t have 20 chicks running around knowing Bruce Wayne is Batman. Women are bitter and it’s only a matter of time before one of them shown up on Maury saying “I’m having Batman and Bruce Wayne’s baby!!”

  12. I agree that Spidey 3 doesn’t fit that mold of a teaser trailer that you described. Oh fuck it, I say go with the three-category trailer system. BTW, that Transformers teaser was kinda poopy. I’d have preferred that they hold off until they had footage of the robots, not some stupid shadow thing that a kid could do on YouTube.

  13. Hey Kristina,

    No No… not nuts… well… that I KNOW of anyway. :P

The thing is… what you just described: “they just do a quick little thing to let people know that a movie is coming, but they don’t have enough footage to show yet” That’s exactly what a teaser trailer is, and what its always been.

Ok… now work with me here for a sec. IF a teaser trailer is what I just quoted above… then would you agree that the new Spider-Man 3 trailer doesn’t fit into that? Obviously it doesn’t.

What you seem to be doing is creating a 3rd category of trailer (and maybe that’s a good idea).

My only point was, that by all definitions of a “Teaser” trailer, the new Spider-Man 3 trailer doesn’t fit into that.

But perhpas you’re right and we need a 3rd or 4th category of trailer to define them.

    Cheers!

    ~John

  14. I see your point, don’t get me wrong. But I figure it this way. Those trailers that you discussed above are what I call ANNOUNCEMENT trailers, where they just do a quick little thing to let people know that a movie is coming, but they don’t have enough footage to show yet. A TEASER shows early footage and gives a hint at the storyline. A FULL TRAILER is the 2 and a half minute extravaganza. Does that make sense, or am I nuts?

  15. Hey Kritina,

Just because they CALL it something… doesn’t mean that’s what it is. A real “TEASER” trailer is like the Transformers one, or the Tim Burton Batman one. It just gives you a quick glimpse. Like the Batman one just shows you the bat symbol… that’s it. The Bewitched one jsut shows you a broom flying by with the title “Bewitched”… yadda yadda yadda.

Sony can call that Spider-Man trailer a “teaser” all they want. But it was a trailer.

And there’s nothing wrong with that at all. Good for them. But it wasn’t a teaser.

    Cheers.

    ~John

  16. It’s a teaser. You don’t release your full and final trailer a DAMN YEAR before the movie opens. If they are still filming the flick, it’s a TEASER. Deal with it.

  17. “One of the best teasers of all time”

I don’t think so…Not even close..it does what it needs to, but it isn’t nearly as good as the original teaser for ‘Back to the Future’ or the original ‘Superman’, neither or which showed any footage from the actual film

  18. Oh yeah, and as for Transformers the movie, im freaking 15 and excited as hell for this movie, and of course, the moment i heard robots dont fall in love, Brokeback Cybertron.

    Peace

  19. Great audio addition as always guys.

Like i’ve said before i figure that spiderman3 is gonan be the 3 lower villians fighting it out with spidey-man ending with venom making him kill one or more bad guys, and end with venom taking over someone else, cant remember the guys name at the moment, have maybe someone speacil to spiderman die, and then end on a cliffy for part 4

    – Beejag Peace

  20. John,

What’s your beef with Spiderman?? LOL!

IT IS A TEASER TRAILER! That’s ALL IT IS! PRE PRODUCTION TRAILER! Most of the crap you see is going to be slightly redone and I’m sure all of the scenes with the black costume will be redone, AND we probably wont even see some of the scenes in the actual movie! IT IS A TEASE!

    Jeeezus…

And, whether you like it or not, it’s one of the BEST TEASER TRAILERS OF ALL TIME.

  21. Who cares whether or not the new Spiderman trailer was a teaser or theatrical trailer. Big deal! Stll doesn’t change the fact that we have to wait a freakin’ year for it to come out. You all have to admit that it showed more than a teaser shows for a movie a year before it comes out..

  22. My thoughts on the Transofrmer trailer..I’m thinking it’s just a bunch of stuff they filmed specifically for the trailer, kinda like that first, banned, Spiderman teaser.

  23. about the video audio editons, do them once a month or so, and for themed editions, also make doug dance or sing for themded editions, that be funny as hell

  24. I think John is 100% right about the trailer thing. That’s exactly what I said to my friend when I first watch the Spiderman trailer “That was’t a teaser, that was a full trailer” or something like that, John said it better.

I think you should give Rob Schneider a break though. I’m sure some people like him.

I LOVE THIS SHOW! I know you were talking about shutting down the movie blog on your blog John, but DON’T! It’s the only podcast I listen to!

I’d give you sexual favors to keep it up, but I live in Buffalo. ;)

  25. The 4th villain is himself…

If this movie is anything like the cartoon the story will go something like this:

Spiderman will face goblin and sandman, he will get his ass kicked, and then he will gain new powers from the symbiot. He beats both sandman and goblin, probably almost kills harry. Afterward he struggles with himself and venom shows up at the end…

    Just a guess.

  26. Re: Ebert = bad critic. I don’t think it’s a matter of “taste” that is making him an inadequate — it’s more of a matter of him revealing SO MANY SPOILERS in nearly all of his reviews. I’ve stopped reading his reviews until after I’ve seen the film, because otherwise I’ve found out some major things that’ll happen in the film.

  27. -above-
referring to your coments about the Spiderman TEASER trailer

    – other than that, great audio edition. Doug Nagy, you are a fool and hilarious as always.

  28. Campea, you really need to send me some of that s–t you’re smokin’.
It’s called a TEASER trailer. The studio called it a TEASER trailer. You can tell by the fact that there is no dialogue or real hardcore story points. It’s whole point is to TEASE you and leave you wanting more. Now I’m not going to harp on ya too much becuase you are entiltled to your ownopinion, but c’mon man…. seriously…
