  1. The Passion didn’t divide the WHOLE WORLD…not even half the world is christian (only like 34 percent)…it might have divide the christian world and the jewish minority (not even a full 1 percent of the world population) so maybe a total of 35 percent of the world would say it would matter. so around 4.5 billion could really give a hoot…9/11 might have a chance to be more controversial because it deals with more than one religion(indirectly) and the subject matter really deals with and issue that spans the globe.

  2. Great show! You guys should really make a rule that states that:

The Content of the Show Decides the Length of the Show!

    BTW:

The Statue of Liberty is made of copper (a great conductant).

Wiktionary defines controversy as: A debate, discussion of opposing opinions.

  3. You guys had me in stitches nearly all the time! Nagy’s comment about Lord of the Rings set in Detroit – oh man – I agree with him about remakes.

And as for Transformers, since listening to the Audio Edition my interest in the movie has gone through the roof and now I’m psyched! Can’t wait for more news.

  4. I am blind posting here… Haven‚Äôt listened to this A.E. yet, but commenting on the last one. John… Don’t go getting so upset when people knock ya for mispronouncing names… (Although you do butcher many a name :-) Most people love TMB, and if they are REALLY sincerely blasting your pronunciation… ‘F’ them! The Audio Edition is great! You, Doug, & Darren do an awesome job, and I am usually left laughing my ass off at several spots during each one. So “Huzzah!” for the Audio Edition…

  5. HAHAHAHA.. what happened to only reviewing things that are current???

Big Momma’s House 2?? That fuckin’ came out a long time ago..

Dungeons and Dragons 2?? A DTV movie??

you guys will review those 2 fucking movies but not Poseidon or M:I 3?

  6. john isn’t off base very often, but he is way the off base on the thor movie.

the opportunity is there to make something outside of the mold, i say they go for it.

people are a little more adventursome then you give them credit for, you just have to catch their imagination.

  7. Chris,

Here comes some serious irony. Do you know the difference between literacy and illiteracy? Because, I sure as hell don’t…I was just talking to my buddy and he just started laughing at me…6.7 percent of the people are still unable to read. Get it? I am dumb. samsonite? I was way off. Sorry for that.

Why do I think that people in NA don’t like to read our movies? Unfortunately, we are a nation of ADD heads who focus more on visuals than on story. Hollywood, videogames, and other media focus too much on making everything look amazing and cutting edge…putting words on the bottom of the screen the entire movie makes it seem like we are going to miss something. Just my theory. Movies like Crouching Awful Hidden Piece of Crap had a visual element to it that a lot of people never really took the time to see before…it wasn’t a good movie at all but people liked wire work for the few weeks it was out…nothing has done as well as that since then and it’s because people have ADD we want to see shit exploding and demons and blah blah blah…

Anyway, I was wrong on the literacy rate, again sorry. Um, generalized statements; aka pigeionholing america or north america is still bullshit and getting blammed for crap that has nothing to do with anyone elses country is awful…why attack us if the movie is coming out here and has nothing to do with your economy, scene, culture, or anything else?

    Goo

  8. Well all I can say guys is what a fantastic audio audition. Never fails to bring a smile to my face whenever all three of ya get together on Mondays.

Speaking of which John on your topic of remakes, dunno if you can consider this but apparently, Weta themselves has signed on to do major work on a remake sort of an anime from Japan called Evangelion??

Apparently its in post production (or maybe that was pre-production,) but anyways, this could be interesting to say the least, what do you guys think?

  9. I don’t know how many times i can say this after listening to one of your podcasts but that was the funniest one yet. You must promise to do another video edition of your podcast in the future when Doug has bought said Transformers toys and we can see him playing with them.

Thanks also for mentioning the possibility of an audio commentary for the original Transformers movie. At least we know where you stand on that movie now, and that you haven’t forgotten about the audio commentary you promised us.

  10. Hi Goovenille,

In your fist post you came off as attacking the Portuguese, and not the opinion of one person. (Yes, not_alone did the same thing by attacking Americans – I fault him/her for that). It sounds so stupid when I type it now, but all I wanted to say is that eating cod has nothing to do with watching movies (sarcasm aside).

I believe the same can be said about the literacy rate, and the hours worked in a day for that matter. Neither of these things to me would reveal why Americans don’t like subtitles. Sure saying “lazy” is a generalization, but on more than one occasion I’ve heard people actually say: “I don’t go to the movies to read”. That says a lot about the people (and about reading).

Why do you think North Americans (including Canadians), don’t like to read subtitles?

For my own interest, please post a link to the stats you are quoting, because I can’t find a site that says anything other than 90-93% literacy for Portugal.

  11. Chris,

A few of my friends are Portugese (not that it matters)…the national literacy rate is 6.7% for 18 and older…they have 365 ways to make cod dishes…they started the slave trade in North America (i missed that one last time)… I was making a sarcastic arguement but alas there is no sarcastic font…to generalize Americans as being lazy is insane BECAUSE if you look at the statisics we are infact THE if not really close to THE HARDEST WORKING NATION based on hours worked in a workplace (more actual work getting done? who really knows)…Japan is close to our numbers. I was attacking the statement that we Americans are “lazy” becuase he worded it in a general structure….365 ways to make cod, one a day except a repeat for leap year, severe.

    Goovenille

  12. Where did you read about New Line aiming for a pg-13 for Battle Royale? I haven’t read that anywhere, only that people hope they don’t go for pg-13. It would seem odd for New Line, Home of Freddy Kruger, to not make a movie like BR “R”.

  13. Goomack, I think you’re missing the point of not_alone’s rant. I’m with you that his comments were a little harsh, but I think you attacked him in the wrong way.

“…all you do is eat cod?” – juvenille.

The literacy rate in America vs. Portugal has nothing to do with the topic. The fact that Americans are 99% literate makes it all the worse that they are too lazy to read sub-titles in a movie. You have the ability, but can’t be bothered. (BTW – everywere I look seems to indicate the literacy rate in Portugal is 93%. Assuming you didn’t actually look it up, I figure you were just trying to insult the Portugese).

This was one of the best Audio Editions ever. Keep up the good work dudes, and Doug I fully intend to come see you at Yuk Yuk’s on the 21st.

  14. Loved the part where Doug screamed about Thor POUNDING THE SHIT OUT OF STUFF with a 50 foot hammer~!

And I kinda agree with the guy from Portugal about subtitles. All the movies over here (Holland) are subtitled and it’s no big deal.

  15. Not_alone,

You must have a ton of time to read subtitles in Portugal since all you do is eat cod.

Don’t dare make fun of Americans when the literacy rate of Portugal is only around 7 percent.

And news flash buds our culture probably stole all the good shit from your culture.

    Sidenote: Anyone see “Series 7”?

Sorry for the short broken sentences I was too lazy to care.

  16. I Live in Portugal, so I have to see almost every movie with subtitles. And If I want to see a great movie I don’t mind reading some stupid subtitles. What I find chocking is that most americans are too lazy to fucking read subtitles. In remakes my thought is, if you are too lazy to read subtitles, maybe you’re too dumb to understand the movie. It really pisses me off when someone say they don’t like to read the subtitles. How do americans think the rest of the world sees their movies? And do we ear someone complain??? Noooo! Just the americans, who are to lazy to want some culture in their lives, other then the crappy movies they make. My point is, how thw hell is hollywood making a remake of Battle Royale??? First, the movie is awsome, and second it’s awsome because it’s asian. I can imagine the remake with some white blond girls, with huge breasts but awfull actresses screaming their lungs out and killing their jock boyfriend with a chearleading pom-pom. Fuck that. And how are they going to make the story believable? It’s not like America is an over-populated country, wich is the main reason in Battle Royale for the Reality Game.

I’m sorry about the long commentary, but some things just get on my nerves, and americans who feel too superior to read subtitles is one of those things.

  17. I’m not looking forward to Seeley‚Äôs break down of every topic for THIS show :p (expects 4-5pages worth)

Anyway, fucking great show, nice to have a long one now and again :)))

    ~Sam

  18. I was disappointed you did not mention anything about Liev Schreiber in your thoughts of “The Omen” John. I believe it’s the first movie he’s done since he won the Tony – didnt check imdb.com though.

I watched him in New York in his role as Ricky Roma in Glengarry Glen Ross and thought he was excellent, so if he sucked in “The Omen” I would be really disappointed.

  19. Great show. You guys covered so much I’m not even sure what to comment on!

I completely agree with Darren’s thoughts on “Cars”. I was impressed with the graphics but the story did very little for me. Still amazing but definately not Pixar’s best.

As for “The Omen”, I wasn’t all that interested to see it but I’m disappointed to hear that Julia Stiles isn’t very good in this one. I really like her and think she has great potential. I hope someone else gives her the opportunity to make a great movie. I think she could really pull it off if given the chance.

  20. Nice show as always ,fellas. Everytime Doug goes on a rant,I laugh so hard I nearly wet my pants. Then I say to myself,”You know what? That motherfucker is right on!”. Except for the fact that Thor IS gay. Also, I like the video reviews and when you guys talk about older movies. I mean, let’s face it, all the “great films” have already been made.
(Ooh, that generalized statement should get a rise out of Campea ;))

  21. HOLI FUCKIN SHIT. THIS AUDIO EDTION WAS THE MOST FUNNIEST ONE I HAVE EVER LISTENED TO….OMG Especially he part where you guys were talking about the transformers toys…..I literely was crying from laughin. Keep up the good work….I’m still laughin

    -George

  22. the only thing that worries me about the transformers movie is that if they do it right. Like if they get it exactly right and make it as good as it could be I don;t know if the human brain is evolved enough to handle how fucking awesome it is. we could be looking at a major brain explosion (literally of brains) the likes of which the world has never seen…….I am scared for the future of mankind…perhaps only the strong will survive

  23. the connery sci fi film that doug is referring to is outland which is pretty much high noon set in space and is fucking amazing…..john the one you were referring to as being terrible is zardoz which is fucking awful.

i am with doug about thor…fuck setting it on boring old earth……remember he-man the movie….all of a sudden they find a fucking portal to modern day new york or whereever the fuck it was set….fuck that shit…do something different with a comic book for once…set it somewhere fucking fantastical…..don’t have him running around L.A….

  24. Weren’t Transformers responsible for spawning all those cartoons that became nothing more than commercials for their toy lines? If so, I HATE them! There I feel much better now.
