Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four 2

Silver-Surfer in Fantastic Four 2Seems like the previous rumours of Silver Surfer appearing in the next Fantastic Four film are getting more and more solid. This is good news since the Silver Surfer is not only cool as hell… but also one of the more complex characters in the Marvel Universe with a lot of personal struggle and inner conflict.

The good folks over at Cinescape give us the following:

News has it that Marvel’s Silver Surfer will play a large role in Fantastic Four 2, slated for a July 4, 2007 release.

20th Century Fox is currently deciding between scripts by Mark Frost (X-Men 2) and Don Payne (My Super-Ex Girlfriend). Payne’s script appears to be the front runner and includes the Silver Surfer. Production for Fantastic Four 2 is set to begin on August 1, 2006

Ummm… let me get this straight. Filming for Fantastic Four 2 is set to begin in less than 3 months… and they haven’t finalized the script yet? Oh man… this does not bode well at all. Prepare for another disaster.

  1. The first FF movie was great. All you dead beats who claim otherwise.
Wouldn’t know a good movie if it bit you in the ass…..
I can’t wait for the sequel. Hopefully Galactus will be in the sequel as well as the Silver Surfer

  2. I loved the first movie and I never was an FF fan (I was a mutie lover.) but the first movie rocked in my opinion. And I am loking forward to a sequel.

  3. I liked the first FF and think they got it right. I do hope the FF sequel with the Surfer is only rumor. I remember the 3D CGI movie rumor a few years back. I think Silver Surfer has enough to carry his own movie. I hope they go back to that. Galactus and Silver Surfer are to big for a movie that already features a team with four individual characters. Plus it has already been said, from what I remember, Doom was contracted for the sequel. Doom, Silver Surfer, FF…a little much.

  4. i’m going to disagree with you, John, about the first ff movie…my stepson watches it all the time, and I watched it with him…it was just fine…. and actually very entertaining.

matter of fact, it was just about as faithful to the source material as any comic could be…save it had much more pizzaz than the comic, which I always found kinda…bland ( not lame…bland. )

but you’re right about one thing…the surfer is one of Marvels’ most 3 dimentional characters. Do you remember the rumors about a 3d animated silver surfer feature film a few years ago? it ended up being a saturday morning cartoon special and was really well done… check it out sometime… i’m sure you can find it.

and remember, for those who actually aren’t afraid to admit to liking the first film ( some hated it, but hey. diff’rent strokes. ) the script for it wasnt finalized until a few weeks before shooting began.

  5. I was looking forward to a total crap fest for the first one (considering they were still doing CGI touch ups 3 weeks before release) and it WAS bad but not as bad as I thought it would be.

I have no interest in the secong one though I have a feeling if the partner hears anything about Alba and underwear together in the same sentence, I may be drageed by the hair. YIKES!

  6. It seems that Cinescape is only confirming what Variety spoke on a few days ago.

My thoughts on this is that one of the two scripts (probably the Surfer one) is a decoy. In Frost’s script apparently has return villiany from Doom and the new nemesis, Puppetmaster. Given the fact that there is a proposed August prod start, it’s far more easier to cast one character than two (Surfer/Galactus). Even if both SS and Galactus were all CGI, they would need actors to model and/or voice them.

I also think, once again, Campea is getting worked up over nothing.
I also think Puppetmaster is a lame villian.
I also think I’d much rather see Silver Surfer and Galactus take on the FF.

  7. The only thing they got right about Fantastic Four was when to release it, given there was SHAG ALL competition for it. Money talks, and they seem to think that they can get more of the same. Silver Surfer adds some interest, but will it be enough to bring back those who thought the 1st was kack?
