del Toro’s Journals Explored

Director Guillermo del Toro is renowned for his unusual creature designs and fantastical creations. If you’ve seen any of his behind the scenes featurettes, you know all of these come from fascinating, complex journals he creates for each of his films, filled with drawings and notes of everything he thinks of. Wired Magazine has gained access to some of them, and has shared their discoveries in a pretty cool video.
Wired reports:

Guillermo Del Toro’s magnificent movie monsters first come into being on the pages of ornate sketchbooks created by the director. Get an inside look at his gorgeous creative process in this video from The New Yorker, which shows how the Pale Man from Pan’s Labyrinth, the Elemental from Hellboy II and other fantastical creatures came to life on-screen.

I’ve said it before, I love del Toro as a director because of how interesting I find him as a person. These journals are a big part of that. How cool are they?

  1. Guillermo has an amazing eye for detail that is out-imagined only by his playful, curious, and sometimes scary mind.

We can only guess at what he would have done with The Hobbit.
Hopefully, his Art Journals for that project are used as a springboard for the coming movie.

Props to the Movie Blog, the only movie blog I follow. :P
