Director Matt Reeves Talks Cloverfield 2

Cloverfield made plenty of “Top 10 Films of 2008” lists. It was great film, were the “monster attacks” genre got an updated. Since it came out, fans embraced the mystery and mayhem that was Cloverfield. Everywhere Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams stand, questions about a sequel are made. Here’s director Reeves talking about the possibility that is Cloverfield 2.

CinemaBlend reports:

Reeves said, “It really isn’t the moment for [the sequel] to go any further than it has, but it continues to be a priority for both of us.” He added, “J.J. is very immersed in putting together Super 8. He’s … in pre-production and really, really passionately getting that together. And I’m passionately finishing Let Me In.”

I totally enjoyed the first one. It made my Top 10 list also. It was an exciting, modern take on the monster genre. It was really well done with a modest, small budget. They managed to make a really splendid viral campaign, and most importantly, maintain the mystery of what the hell was Cloverfield about, until it opened. I’d definitely watch a sequel or prequel of sorts. I want to know more about the origin of the monster. I hope this gets made along the way.

Do you want them to make a Cloverfield 2? Would you go watch this? Prequel or Sequel? Have you tasted Slusho!?

  1. I saw the first Cloverfield movie and It was a very good movie. I believe we are due for either a prequel or a sequel and I for one will see the next cloverfield movie.

  2. I would love to see a sequel. There are many many questions stemming from the first one.

    1) what are those spider things that come out
    2) where did the monster come from
    3) did it die at the end
    4) international response
    5) President’s decision to bomb manhatten

  3. Cloverfield is one of my favorite movies of all time. I loved the way it turned the monster movie on its head. I would definitely be interested in a prequel/sequel/side-quel (maybe showing the events of Cloverfield from the prospective of the military).

  4. SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THIS!!!

No, but seriously – I was super bummed that I wasn’t smart, or ambitious, enough to delve into the clues left by Abrams :[

I’m looking forward to a second chance ^_^

  5. They need an upbeat ending in the next one, the audience will tire of endless tragedy, while I liked the first one, the piling up of death and despair was just maddening and only for it to end the way it did.

The pre-work that led up to the release was masterful though.

  6. Ya I would watch em both. I think really a sequel can be done without the shaky cam. Do it from the perspective of a actual news camera man or something.
