Results Of The Movie Blog Oscar Poll! (and Oscar winners)

The Oscars are well underway, but the Movie Blog Oscar Poll is now a done deal. There’s no way to say right now how the poll stack up against tonight’s Oscar winners. But here’s how it shapes up? I asked the int’l friends to vote on TEN categories. As you can see above, the results for Best Picture was really mixed, with The King’s Speech nearly beating out Inception, but not quite there. Both The Social Network and Black Swan are in the tie for third.

The King’s Speech would go on to win Best Picture..

The rest of the polls in major nominations (directing, acting and writing) suggest that folks would like the Oscars to be spread out a bit. I also included Best Foreign and Best Docs as well.

Best Foreign in TMB poll was in favor of Mexico -Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Biutiful However, it didn’t win. In a Better World (Denmark) did, (Came in third in the poll)

Best Documentary in TMB poll was Exit Through the Gift Shop with50% (41 Votes); the Oscar Winner was ‘Inside Job’.

As of this writing, Melissa Leo has already won Best Supporting Actress (and eats up a speech clock) but did the int’l friend agree? There are many supporters of ‘The Fighter’ to be sure- but the poll would have given it to :
Hailee Steinfeld ‘True Grit’ 36% (80 Votes)
Helena Bonham Carter was in second; Leo third.
I voted for Leo, but I almos thought Jacki Weaver could have pulled an upset.

Best Actress- int’l friends selected by an landslide, Natalie Portman, (Black Swan) 82% (199 Votes) Everyone else got left in dust clouds. Annette Being, my pick, was second in the poll at 7%. (Portman would go on to win)

Best Supporting Actor
Int’ Friends chose Christian Bale, -who won for The Fighter. 65% (147 Votes) This was another popular choice among the int’l friends which proved to be the Oscar Winner.

Best Actor
Colin Firth – The King’s Speech at 52% (127 Votes) is tops in the poll, with James Franco, the Oscar co-host, at 22% Hey, give yourselves a round of appluase int’l friends. 3 rights out of 4 acting categories…

Best Screenplay
Inception wins the poll by an overwhelming 66% (309 Votes); King’s Speech clocked in a second 23% (110 Votes) the other three were 5% or under. (King’s Speech won the Oscar)

My personal Pick was that 5%- The Kids Are Alright.

Adapted Screenplay
The Social Network with 56% (152 Votes) – which won. Damn, I can’t write fast enough. In the poll, True Grit came in second followed by 127 Hours.

I was hoping for True Grit.

Best Director
Darren Aronofsky – Black Swan 37% (77 Votes)
a close second is David Fincher- Social Network with 34% of the vote. The winning director was Tom Hooper, “The King’s Speech.”

  1. I think that the biggest upset of Oscar Night was Tom Hooper winning for Best Director. I saw both the King’s Speech and The Social Network and David Fincher should have won in my mind. In lesser hands, The Social Network would have been a movie about a guy creating a computer program. However, in David Fincher’s hands, it was a movie about greed, loyalty, and our current society. He also got three great performances out of Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake. I knew it was a great movie when I forgot that Justin Timberlake was a pop-star. I know the Academy likes to award Best Director to the Best Picture winner, but COME ON?!

  2. There may have been a few minor disagreements here and there, but I thought the Oscar results were all reasonable. There was nothing particularly egregious about the night (save maybe the hosting), I would have preferred either Social Network or Black Swan for Best Pic and Best Director, but I thought King’s Speech was close to them in both regards. The only issues I had with King’s Speech was the writing — while the script, written by a stutterer, absolutely nailed the major issue of the movie (stuttering), it completely flopped on any sort of historical accuracy in ways that were so obvious it utterly broke my suspension of disbelief. It was still a good movie, but the stuff they threw in there that were historically inaccurate just didn’t need to be there — it did little for the story. They should have just eliminated the Winston Churchill character from the movie altogether.

    1. Soo why did you want ‘Social Network’ to win over ‘King’s Speech’ again? Social Network occurred in more recent times and * it * was historically inaccurate too and they freely admitted to it. It was the biggest debate of that film, in spite of the good writing and acting involved.

Yes, if they take a living (or dead) person, make him into an uncaring slacker-villain, when he is anything but, make up stuff about the guy and his motivations, I would consider that historically inaccurate. Wouldn’t you?

  3. I just feel like Inception got majorly screwed on best original screenplay i mean c’mon. OK its not artsy enough for best picture but it was a completely original piece and one of the biggest mind***** i have ever seen. C’mon oscar fall into the right hands.

      1. I know that Rodney I was agreeing with xMYSTIKJOKERx, Social Network won the award right? That movie was based on a book called The Acidental Billionaire (am i right?) I was rooting for Inception which was original while 3 of the nominees were books.

      2. no Roman… Mystic said Inception didnt win Original Screenplay, which was why he was disappointed. You questioned him saying “how can something based off of a book be an original screenplay”

He was talking about Inception. Which is not based on a book, so like the Winner King’s Speech, it was in the category of Best Screenplay.

The Social Network won best ADAPTED Screenplay (being that its based on an existing novel) and did not compete at all against Inception in those categories.

  4. Just glad Christian Bale and Natalie Portman won, love both of them as actors. It’ll take a miracle for Nolan to finally win one. He’d have to direct and write a hell of a film to get a win. He’ll probably get a lifetime achievement award at the end of his career.
