Top 5 Upcoming Movie Adaptations from BookTok

Gen Zs and TikTok have made reading fashionable again! Bookstagram and book accounts on X have contributed to new trends in the publishing industry, which are now rubbing off on the film industry. Though film adaptations of books have commenced since the rise of Hollywood, popular fiction has seen new heights in the past few years. Thanks to it, we’re blessed with many upcoming films and TV shows that will now be experienced visually. Here are the top 5 movies coming out in 2025 and 2026, thanks to their viral books on BookTok.

1. The Housemaid (December 19, 2025)

The Housemaid (2025)

Freida McFadden’s best-selling novel The Housemaid is finally getting the adaptation it deserves. The breakout writer known for writing bone-chilling mysteries went viral on TikTok and developed a massive fanbase. McFadden dropped one best-seller after another and has established a great reputation for herself in the niche. Lionsgate, which owes Sydney Sweeney one of its biggest box office hits, Anyone but You, has her under its label once again in The Housemaid. Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Michele Morrone will be her co-stars.

Sweeney stars as Millie, who lands herself a job at a wealthy couple’s house as an in-house maid. The plot progresses, she slowly begins to find dark secrets lurking within the walls of the house. Meanwhile, Millie has secrets of her own that she is trying to escape. The trailer appeals to both readers and non-readers who are looking forward to the movie. It will be released by the end of this year.

2. People We Meet on Vacation (January 9, 2026)

People We Meet on Vacation (2026)

Booktok’s beloved rom-com author Emily Henry, known for her witty and romantic rom-coms, has her first-ever book-to-film adaptation. Yulin Kuang has helped write the adapted script, and Brett Haley, who has previously directed All the Bright Places, will be directing it. As for Alex and Poppy, the main leads, Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and Emily Bader (My Lady Jane) have been cast to bring the friends-to-lovers trope to life.

The teaser follows these two college best friends, who go to a new vacation spot every year where they’ve never been. The two have fun with their trips until the Croatia vacation, which makes them stop vacationing. What happened and where the story will take them romantically? We’ll just have to wait! Fans are excited for their opposites attract chemistry, lingering sweetness of memories, and picturesque travel locations to come undone on-screen the next year.

3. Verity (October 2, 2026)

Verity (2026)

Michael Showalter, who adapted Robin Lee’s The Idea of You for Prime Video, starring Anne Hathaway, is back with another book-to-film adaptation, reuniting with her in Colleen Hoover’s Amazon Prime thriller movie, Verity. Hathaway will play the titular Verity Crawford, with Dakota Johnson in the second lead, who will play Lowen Ashleigh. Other cast members include Ismael Cruz Cordóva, Irina Dvorovenko, and K.K. Moggie.

It might be a little unconventional for Hoover, who is known for writing contemporary romance, to deliver a thriller. However, this haunting tale is approved by fans and follows the story of Verity, a famous writer who goes through an accident and is unable to finish her book trilogy. Lowen, a struggling writer who is hired by Verity’s husband, whom he believes has a similar writing style, arrives at their mansion. From their mansion to its residents, everything about Lowen’s new atmosphere is shady and suspicious.

4. The Love Hypothesis (TBD)

Lili Reinhart

Another TikTok sensation, rom-com writer Ali Hazelwood, is also having her first film adaptation of her novel, The Love Hypothesis. Loved for her sweet romance budding within an academia setting and enemies-to-lovers tropes, Hazelwood completely dominated the world of Booktok romance. It stars Lili Reinhart as the PhD student Olive Smith. Romancing her will be the Stanford professor, Dr. Adam Carlsen, played by Tom Bateman. This wholesome romance has everything from a fake-dating trope to women in STEM. It is currently being filmed, and there hasn’t been an announcement about the official release date. But I know I’ll be keeping an eye on this one!

5. Reminders of Him (March 13, 2026)

Reminders of Him (2026)

Colleen Hoover’s been on a wild ride with many of her best-sellers being adapted into movies like It Ends with Us (2024) starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, Regretting You (2025) starring McKenna Grace and Mason Thames, and two upcoming movies that are being adapted from her books. One of those is Reminders of Him. The trailer just dropped, featuring Maika Monroe, Tyriq Withers, Rudy Pankow, and Lauren Graham.

The story is about Kenna Rowan, who reunites with her four-year-old daughter after being released from prison. When her past keeps haunting her present, the only one who would trust her is the local bar owner, Ledger Ward. As their romance begins, so does the tension around them that may drift them apart. This journey towards healing will be an emotional ride in early 2026.
