Timothée Chalamet has proven himself to be one of the most compelling actors of his generation. Starting off as a teen actor who demonstrated strong emotional potential with a boyish charm, he has surely come a long way. Throughout the years, he has taken on serious roles that have established him as an A-list actor, leading to Academy Award nominations. On that note, let’s break down his best performances yet.
Marty Supreme (2025)
Playing Marty Mauser isn’t just Chalamet’s greatest work but a key point in his career. This isn’t the first time that sports films have garnered attention due to their unfiltered portrayal of rage, passion, and determination. This career-defining performance opens up the raw struggle that takes place through Marty’s personal and professional recounts. The actor also received the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Actor, the London Film Critics’ Circle Award for Actor of the Year, and is nominated for an Oscar in 2026.
A Complete Unknown (2024)
Bob Dylan’s biopic may be the point in Chalamet’s career when he became the critics’ favorite. This is where he transformed himself completely into a folk legend and materialized the soulful musical journey of Bob Dylan. His musical talents, combined with his acting, brought him a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor and Grammy nominations for the best soundtrack of the film.
Dune: Part Two (2024)
Denis Villeneuve’s science fiction epic Dune got Chalamat a breakthrough role. Torn apart between destiny and reality, he proved why he was the perfect choice for a young leader with impressive depth. Power-packed with a massive cast including Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skarsgård, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin, his acting dominated these films.
Beautiful Boy (2018)
Beautiful Boy(2018) remains Chalamet’s most emotionally challenging role yet. He played Nic Sheff, a young boy struggling with drug addiction and navigating a tumultuous relationship with his father. The vulnerability of teenage life and social disfiguration, which he brought to the screen, was praised highly by the audience and critics alike. This break of the actor tested his range as someone who could realistically paint the destruction of human life when exposed to drug abuse.
Call Me by Your Name (2017)
This list would be incomplete without mentioning Chalamet’s role in the movie, which made him earn international recognition. Elio Perlman was a character which is one of a kind. An emotionally intelligent, sensitive, and intellectually gifted teenager experiences his first love with Oliver, who is played by Armie Hammer. The entirety of the film is about the endurance of heartbreak and what it means when it happens for the first time. The brilliantly played role got him distinguished due to the subtlety with which it is captured.
Honourable mentions would be Chalamet as a period hero in Little Women (2019) as a charming American fellow Laurie opposite Saoirse Ronan and Florence Pugh. Talking about period pieces, Chalamat serves as a compelling actor in The King, another historical narrative that puts his acting abilities to the test. He was also a great choice for the prequel to the beloved children’s fantasy Wonka. The role was particularly hard to nail as it is executed perfectly by Johnny Depp and is the kind of character that is coined by the actor. Timothée though, owned it like no other mirroring the eccentric quirkiness that was required.
Let us know if there’s a performance we missed that should’ve been on the list.
Happy Watching!
