Audio Edition – October 13th 2005

Greetings all and welcome to another daily installment of The Audio Edition! We’re glad you stopped by.

On today’s show Doug and I spend some time talking about the untrue rumours floating around the web about the amount of involvement Peter Jackson will have in the upcoming Halo film, the choice rumour of the day of Michael Keaton being a possible contender for the Joker role in the next Batman film, Hollywood asking the wrong questions, the films opening this weekend, the squandered opportunity Orlando Bloom had to be a legit A-list Hollywood actor and a few things more.

  1. THe Halo/Jackson item is a prime example of how people hear what they want to hear. Good clarification John and hopefully the last podcast that this is brought up. Time to move on!

  2. Doug,

were u joking when u said Leonard Nimoy would be good for Halo?

I hope not, because it’s a great suggestion. Too bad Nimoy hasn’t directed in over a decade.

what do u think of Star Trek 7-10, the NExt Gen. movies?

are they as good or better than ST 1-6?

  3. Hi guys

Love the site, love the audioedition even more, specially since it√Ǭ¥s on a daily basis…but….please, tell Doug not get so close to the mic, he really beats my eardrum when he laughs…..other than that, all is cool thanks

  4. 1) Leonard Nimoy directed both Star Trek 3 and 4; Nicolas Myer helmed Trek 2 and 6(Undiscovered Country). Myer also contributed to the script of Voyage Home.

    2) Also see Michael Keaton in 1990’s ‘Pacific Heights’- he played a psycho there too and, again, what about his name being mentioned for ‘Punisher 2”s Jigsaw? Still, the idea of him being Joker is just crazy enough. Sure, Joker should be around the same age as Batman, but if Joker is the mirror image of Batman, what a better gag. An unusual, but wacky passing of the torch. (Note: I like Crispin Gover or Paul Bettany myself; I also once favored Denis Leary, too…)

    3) Never seen Depp do a psycho killer-bad guy? Does ‘Secret Window’ count?

    4) The Fog remake. I’m not sure why the studio wouldn’t give early screenings. But with most horror films, some studios don’t have confidence in critics, I suppose. While I loved the original, please note that the remake not only has the blessing of John Carpenter, but he remains as an ‘executive producer’. Now- one of the ‘producers’ on the update is the late Debra Hill, who teamed up with Carpenter on the original, as well as ‘Escape From New York’ and, of course, “Halloween’.

    5) I’m glad to hear you thought ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ stunk, and Orlando Bloom with it. That film gave whole new meaning to the phrase ‘artistic license’. I don’t mind a little creative feedom and interpettion, but the biggest reason why the film sucked is that…well…Bloom’s character was changed from historical fact, which made it laughable (blacksmith with no military background knows more about siege weapons and military strategy than all the knights and military concentrated in the Holy Land put together.) and the bigger gaffe: Jeruselem isn’t surrounded by sand dunes.

I’m also glad to hear what you thought of Eric Bana in Troy. Aside from Petr O Toole and maybe Sean Bean, Bana was the best actor in Troy. Orlando did nothing for me. Orlando didn’t do much in ‘Ned Kelly’ either. You’re right, though- he still has “Pirates” to regroup and re-think. Which reminds me, aren’t you happy he isn’t Young Bond?

    :)

  5. you’ve obviously never seen Secret Window John(he plays a physco killer in that), maybe you should take some time out and see it, great movie!!

Keaten or Depp would be awesome..but whoever they pick will be fine, I managed to sit through Holmes, im sure one of the many actors you mentioned would be just able to do a good job.

Why is there no noise over Zorro?.. I bet you its that annoying kid which I commented about last Audio Edition post, because you just wanna strangle him.. Zorro could be such a good movie if they would just do the Batman begins treatment on it and play that “dark” style..
