Survival in the Deep
Amazon MGM Studios has officially pulled back the curtain on The Devil’s Mouth, a new survival thriller set to premiere globally on Prime Video on July 29, 2026. The studio released the film’s official trailer, teaser poster, and a collection of first-look stills, offering a glimpse into the claustrophobic nightmare awaiting the characters.
The film follows a group of five college graduates who embark on a final adventure along the coast of Thailand. Their trip takes a dark turn when they decide to explore a remote cave system known as The Devil’s Mouth. While the location is initially presented as a breathtaking natural wonder, a recent storm has flooded the tunnels with dangerous sea life, turning their guided swim into a desperate fight for survival.
A Rising Ensemble Cast
The project features a young adult ensemble cast led by Kathryn Newton and Lana Condor. They are joined by Nico Hiraga, Gavin Casalegno, Tommi Rose, and Tayme Thapthimthong. The film is directed by Jeff Wadlow, who also serves as a producer alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.
The screenplay was penned by Aja Gabel and Myung Joh Wesner. With a runtime of 105 minutes and a PG-13 rating, the film aims to blend suspenseful underwater sequences with the high-stakes emotional dynamics of a group of friends pushed to their breaking point. The setting of Thailand’s coastal caves provides a unique, immersive backdrop that promises to lean heavily into the tension of the survival horror genre.
Why It Matters
Survival thrillers often rely on the strength of their ensemble to ground the high-concept danger, and the casting of Newton and Condor suggests a focus on character-driven stakes. By placing the action in a claustrophobic, flooded environment, the film taps into primal fears that should make for a compelling summer watch on Prime Video. It will be interesting to see how Wadlow balances the humor of the group’s initial college-grad energy with the grim reality of their situation once the hunt begins.
