The galaxy is preparing to go to ludicrous speed once again. Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that Spaceballs: The New One will take center stage at San Diego Comic-Con with a special presentation in Hall H on Friday, July 24, at 4:00 p.m. The event will feature members of the cast and the film’s creative team.
The announcement arrives alongside a new teaser poster for the upcoming project. Directed by Josh Greenbaum, the film serves as a follow-up to the 1987 cult classic. The story picks up forty years after the original, introducing a new generation of characters while bringing back familiar faces from the franchise.
A New Generation of Spaceballs
The synopsis for Spaceballs: The New One reveals that the galaxy faces a threat that is determined to bring back the past. With Lone Starr in hiding and Queen Vespa on the throne, the responsibility falls to Vespa’s son, Prince Starburst, and a mysterious advisor named Destiny to save the day. They must track down legacy characters, including Lone Starr and Yogurt, to confront the reboot-obsessed villain.
The film boasts a large ensemble cast, including Rick Moranis, Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, Anthony Carrigan, George Wyner, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman, and Mel Brooks. The screenplay was written by Josh Gad, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit.
The return of this franchise is notable for its self-aware approach to modern sequel culture. By leaning into the absurdity of legacy reboots, the production aims to capture the satirical spirit of the original while expanding the universe for a new audience. Fans can expect more details regarding the project during the upcoming Hall H panel.
Spaceballs: The New One is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 23, 2027.
