Namaslay Brings Horror and Satire to Theaters
The upcoming genre-bending horror satire Namaslay has officially set its theatrical release date. The film, which promises to blend the maximalist energy of masala cinema with a sharp critique of the Western wellness industry, will arrive in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on August 6. A nationwide expansion is scheduled to follow on August 13.
A Cultural Reckoning
Written and directed by Rish and Kanish, the film follows a character named Gayatri who moves to Los Angeles and becomes entangled in an upscale yoga studio. After accepting a position in an instructor training program, she eventually discovers the sinister intentions behind a prestigious retreat. The project is produced by Venk Potula, Rish Arhant-Sudhir, and Kanish Arhant-Sudhir.
The film stars Kirunthuja Srikanth-Talim alongside Angela Sant’Albano, Alicia Mitchell-Mangual, Usha Krishnan, and Christina Moore. By tackling the commercialization of yoga through a horror lens, the filmmakers aim to deliver a provocative experience that challenges how culture is commodified.
Independent Blockbuster Ambitions
Namaslay marks the first feature project from Junghal Studios, an independent production company founded by the directing duo in 2019. The studio focuses on what they describe as independent blockbusters, aiming to combine large-scale cinematic ambition with complete creative independence. For those interested in learning more about the production, additional information is available on the official film website.
As the industry continues to see a rise in genre-blending narratives, this project stands out for its specific focus on reclaiming traditional cinematic energy to tell a modern, subversive story. Audiences looking for a fresh voice in the horror genre may find this cultural reckoning to be a notable addition to the late-summer theatrical slate.
