Purple smoke, black coffins, and creepy dolls, you’re watching another season of Wednesday, now streaming on Netflix. Tim Burton’s eccentric gothic mystery is back with only 4 episodes of the second season. The show is being applauded by the critics for keeping up with its mystical nature and the element of suspense the series is known for. Opting for its favorite strategy that Netflix uses with popular shows, it has released only half of it. The lingering thrill will be out on September 3, 2025.
This new season brought back the lovely freaks of the Nevermore Academy along with their positively weird traditions. That means we get to see more of the old characters in addition to the new ones. Even though half the season is yet to be released and most characters still have a lot of room to be developed, this ranking is based on part one of the second season.

20. Bruno
I wouldn’t call him the worst character of the series, but the reason he got the last spot on this list is that he didn’t have much to contribute to the plot. After losing feelings for Ajax, Bruno is the one Enid dates. I can theorize him dodging Enid in the next half and Ajax stepping in as the knight in the shining armour. As for the first half, he’s only a partner to Enid.
19. Sheriff Ritchie Santiago
As soon as the show begins, Sheriff Galpin is brutally murdered, and Richie Santiago, who played a cop in the first season, gets promoted to become the new Sheriff. Much like Galpin, Santiago is vigilant, sharp, and dutiful. Unlike him, she doesn’t have her personal vendettas clouding her judgment. Even though she’s a side character, she’s still an important part of the plot.
18. Professor Orloff
Professor Orloff is the oldest professor at Nevermore and brings the quirky Tim Burton imagination to life. His head is in a jar, and his lower body is on wheels. Not much is revealed about his background, but he helps the narrative catch a pace by sharing info about Augustus Stonehurst. A fun fact about Christopher Lloyd, who played Orloff, is that he played Uncle Fester in The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993). I loved this as much as I loved Christina Ricci as Marilyn Thornhill in season 1, who played Wednesday in the same movies.
17. Isadora Capri
Another new face of this season is the music teacher, Isadora Capri. Newly recruited to Nevermore, her persona is sweet and affable; however, the track record of charming teachers at Nevermore isn’t that great. Her character didn’t get much exposition in the first half, but surely there’s enough room for her to stir more mystery in the upcoming episodes.
16. Judi Spannegel
The antagonist of the season is none other than Dr. Fairburn’s assistant, Judi Spannegel, who works at the psychiatric hospital named Willow Hill. Throughout the show, Wednesday is haunted by a black hooded figure who can control birds. In the fourth episode, she reveals herself as the villain who is taking over her father’s (Augustus Stonehurst) research on turning normies into outcasts. She is also responsible for murdering Sheriff Galpin by eye-gouging crows.
15. Eugene Ottinger
There was no way Eugene would be ranked this low if we were talking about the first season of the show. In the last season, Eugene Ottinger was a lonely, innocent, and nerdy fellow who was extremely shy. A lovely weirdo who helped save the school. Season 2 comes out, and a perfectly good character is ruined.
The writers have made Eugene into a ‘too cool for school’ guy who isn’t as nice to his classmate Pugsley as one would expect. The two stick with each other and have adventures throughout the show, but if only he were a little more of himself.
15. Principal Dort
Principal Barry Dort shows up as the new principal of Nevermore Academy. In contrast to the former Principal, he is jolly and super friendly with the kids. At this point, we all know appearances are deceptive, especially at Nevermore. Keeping his ‘cool guy’ demeanor aside, there’s something so sneaky and unreliable about him. This can be said based on how he blackmails Bianca to use her Siren song to serve his own agendas and gets annoyingly over-enthusiastic whenever Wednesday shows up. But hey, at least the character is layered and keeps us guessing, which makes him anything but boring. Also, he had large shoes to fill after Weems, so I’m cutting him some slack.
13. Grandmama Hester Frump
Grandmama Hester Frump was so unapologetically evil and twisted for controlling her daughters and putting them through the absolute worst. Her entry in the show shed some light on the past of Morticia and Ophelia, unveiling her as a selfish parent. Unknowingly, she ends up giving Wednesday a clue about her investigation. Moreover, her quaint style, coupled with a strong yet dangerous infatuation with Wednesday, is what makes her characterization appreciable as a true member of the Addams family.
12. Slurp
What’s a Tim Burton horror without a monster? Where season 1 was full of Frankenstein references, season 2 brought out a literal zombie to the play. Resurrected and then named by Pugsley, Slurp is the main character from a dark Nevermore legend. A brilliant boy who once walked through those halls had a fragile heart that he replaced with a mechanical one. Thanks to Pugsley, he is now eating human brains and regenerating himself. It was a wonderful addition to the show, keeping everyone on their toes because why should a killer, a hyde, and a stalker be our only concern? Sadly, in the mid-finale, he is taken away by the authorities. (Though I’m seated for a comeback)
11. Tyler Galpin
Confined within the dungeons of Willow Hill, Tyler was a wounded monster waiting to be unleashed. In the first four episodes, there was a lot of foreshadowing about what comes next for Tyler. He is persecuted and has a monstrous rage fuming inside him, ready to kill everyone who gets in his way. He killed his master, Thornhill, and put Wednesday in a coma before he escaped Willow Hill and went into the wilderness.
In the first season, Hyde is depicted as a clueless monster controlled by someone even more sinister who unlocked him. Moreover, his identity is kept hidden. It is now time to see him in his full potential when we know who he is and without a master.
10. Ajax Petropolus
Ajax this season was the same nice guy Enid had a huge crush on last season. Despite Enid’s harsh treatment, Ajax remained decent and let her go like a true gentleman. Another amazing quality of Ajax is how he always stands up for his friends. He bravely stood up to evil last season and helped Bianca save her mom this season. He deserves the absolute best in the forthcoming episodes. Period.
9. Pugsley Addams
Wednesday’s adorable brother, who becomes the reason why Wednesday has to attend Nevermore, is now her junior at the same place. I loved how the writers developed him in this season. Being young and getting bullied in the normie schools instilled a need to prove himself. This is why he goes into the woods, finds the skull tree, unlocks the monster, and then pets him. He most definitely got his bravery from his father and a knack for monsters from his family, something I’m always rooting for.
8. Bianca Barclay
Bianca Barclay is another example of how to slay the art of character development. From being the most hated girl in school to the most favorite and respectable character, she was someone I loved a lot this season. Not only does she have a kind heart, but she is also deeply concerned and protective about the ones she loves. Whether it be friends or family, she has put them first before herself, like the queen she is.
7. Gomez Addams
Gomez Addams is the man who will do anything for his family. This includes going to the prison, enduring false allegations, and taking the blame for saving his loved ones. This season, we got to see more of him at the Nevermore, and it was a delight. He didn’t have much involvement in the plot this season, unlike Morticia, but honestly, he just has to be himself to be loved the way he is.
6. Enid Sinclair
Enid was supposed to be the most important character of this season, but for some reason, she was kept away from the storyline as opposed to the first season. A major subplot in the show is Wednesday having visions of Enid’s death and her blaming Wednesday for it. Maybe it gets delineated in a better way in the second part. As far as part one is concerned, Enid’s only problem is finding her true self, which somehow relates to having a love life. Excuse me? I’d also love to see more of those friendship dynamics as there were in the last season, something perpetually missed in this one.
5. Agnes DeMille
Agnes DeMille is Wednesday’s secret stalker. A weird superfan who matches her energy and is seemingly as twisted as Wednesday. Her powers of being invisible serve to be of great use to Wednesday in uncovering secrets. She also tried to kill Enid to impress Wednesday, which makes her hard to ignore and annoy Enid for the rest of the show. Agnes’ presence is strong, and her character has a lot of potential. She might just be here to stay.
4. Uncle Fester
Who doesn’t love the brainiac (or maybe one of the brainiacs) of The Addams Family? Uncle Fester remained the criminally impressive trickster that he is. He not only was a huge help to Wednesday in the first season, but also came especially for her this time. Watching him at the Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital was so entertaining. He discovers the secret right alongside Wednesday and manages to get the job done in the most sensually disturbed way.
3. Thing
The Addams family’s right hand (quite literally) is a walking hand named Thing. He was a fan favorite in the first season, and his following has only increased after this one. Whether it’s about cleaning up the mess or helping collect evidence, Thing has never disappointed. What makes him so lovable is the loyalty he possesses for his family. This season, we got to see more of his interactions with other members of The Addams Family.
2. Wednesday Addams
The little storm cloud of her family, Wednesday Addams, returned with her uniquely dark charisma and wit. Her character kept up with how it was introduced. This time, she’s on the hunt for a new serial killer. What’s new about this season is her pleasantly intricate relationship with her mother. Despite hating to rely on anyone, Wednesday is still respectful towards her parents, willing to risk her life for her friends, and stand up to evil and injustice.
1. Morticia Addams
The star of the show for me was Morticia Addams. She exudes a resilient woman who is navigating motherhood. Having a precocious child like Wednesday, she managed to calmly handle their relationship and didn’t leave her daughter alone despite her nagging. In season 1, she also mentioned that she’s a Dove while Wednesday is a Raven. That contrast was so apparent in this season.
It caught more depth when her relationship with her toxic mother was revealed, and it came to light how she wants to be a better parent than her mother. I can’t wait for Ophelia to arrive and we get to see more of her softness.
