De De Pyaar De 2 (2025): When Love Defies Age

A comical tale of romance and vengeance — De De Pyaar De 2: Casting Ajay Devgn as Ashish and Rakul Preet Singh as Ayesha

“Age is just a number”. You would often hear this justifying phrase from those whose romantic partners are much older than they are. But what if a young woman falls in love with a man who is divorced and is even older than her father, and she brings him to her house to meet her parents? I don’t know about other countries, but in India, such a situation often creates awkwardness and may lead to disapproval by family members.

With this in mind, Bollywood decided to continue the 2019 De De Pyaar De rom-com franchise with a sequel. Titled “De De Pyaar De 2, the film stars Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh, who reprise their roles as the “illicit couple” alongside R. Madhavan as Rakul Preet’s on-screen father. This Hindi romantic comedy drama made its theatrical debut on November 14, 2025, and was co-written by Luv Ranjan, produced by Bhushan Kumar, and directed by Anshul Sharma.

R. Madhavan and Gautami Kapoor as Ayesha’s father and mother in De De Pyaar De 2

The story resumes from the prequel, where Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh) and the “much-older” Ashish (Ajay Devgn) continue with their love life. Ayesha plans to introduce Ashish to her parents, but decides to hide his age from them as it might cause a ruckus in her family. The fact is, Ashish happens to be a year older than her father, Rakesh (R. Madhavan).

But a mischievous plan resides in Ayesha’s mind. She hadn’t forgotten how, in the prequel, Ashish had cheated on her with his wife (Tabu). He had already begun his relationship with Ayesha at that time, and had lied to her about being a divorcee when in reality he was not. He had even cheated on Ayesha in the name of “pacifying” his wife, where he had ultimately ended up spending a night with her. So, now it’s time for Ayesha’s revenge on Ashish! What will that be? Watch De De Pyaar De 2 to find out!

The Good:

Introducing Meezaan Jafri as Ayesha’s childhood friend, Aditya

The performances are compelling. You will enjoy Ajay Devgn’s meek and confused “lover uncle” character, R. Madhavan’s comical and provoked fatherly nature, and Rakul Preet Singh’s mischievous side in this romantic comedy. Besides, the numerous comical punches throughout the screenplay make it quite entertaining. There are some eccentric moments as Ayesha tries to introduce her boyfriend Ashish to her parents, who is older than her father. Such instances make De De Pyaar De 2’s screenplay even funnier and enjoyable.

From Left: R. Madhavan as Ayesha’s father, Ajay Devgn as Ayesha’s boyfriend Ashish, and Jaaved Jaaferi as Ashish’s friend and mentor

Besides, there are some unexpected twists in the middle where a handsome young hunk named Aditya (Meezaan Jafri) makes his entry to lure the young Ayesha away from the aging Ashish. And the climax takes away all! The climax twist is unbelievable, which will change the entire story’s perception in the audience’s minds. When you start pitying Ayesha as a “damsel in distress” as Ashish feels betrayed and deserts her, the ending will unveil her true mischievous and vengeful spirit. In short, De De Pyaar De 2 is a complete entertainment piece with breezy humor, tense emotions, and unpredictable twists.

The screenplay is fast-paced, and you won’t feel any boredom throughout. You would be excited to learn what’s coming next, which will pull you through the entire runtime. The cinematography is colorful and lively, with visuals giving a familial touch. The remastered classy track at the end credits, “Jhoom Sharaabi”, features rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh with Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet. It signifies the nostalgia of the early-era Bollywood, even though the vocals are not appreciable, and the visuals are not very interesting to watch.

The Bad:

Age is the elephant in the room that cannot hide under the carpet. I feel De De Pyaar De 2 has exaggerated this romantic age-gap humor a bit too much, which may prove to be offensive for some couples who fall under the same category.

People may take this as light humor and even as a societal awareness, but you never know! What if someone gets offended by the film’s theme? Although it speaks of a modern outlook where huge age differences don’t matter and become acceptable in Indian society, there may be some couples having greater age differences who might misjudge that the film is trying to convey age difference in love as a taboo, considering its initial scenes.

The Verdict: A Rom-Com With Deep Emotions And A Message

De De Pyaar De 2 movie still

De De Pyaar De 2 does enlighten us about true love, where age is no bar. It also makes society aware of the acceptance of couples who have huge age differences.

If you look at it closely, you won’t find the De De Pyaar De franchise to be a comedy tale. In fact, after some humorous moments, situations get tense and serious. Certain moments of separation can get so emotional that they can even leave you in tears. So, in my opinion, this film cannot be addressed as the “heart-bursting comedy” that you may be looking for.

But all we seek is some entertainment after a busy work week! So, there’s no harm if you hit the theaters to freshen up your minds on the weekends with a witty and humorous love story having a twisted climax.
