“Scary Movie” Getting Rebooted?

Ok, this one just takes the proverbial cake with stupidity frosting and a creamy center of WTF. I know there are a lot of remakes and reboots… and I’m ok with the idea of them in general… but sometimes things just go too far, and this appears to be one of those instances.

It’s being reported by the folks over at Cinema Blend that the Weinstein Company is planning on rebooting… are you ready for this… Scary Movie. Yes… THAT “Scary Movie”.

I’m one of those guys who has NEVER understood what anyone has ever seen in any of these films. But the fact of the matter is they make money at the box office which means there are people out there willing to go see them. But even with that being the case… how the hell do you “reboot” Scary Movie? And why on earth would anyone want to? These movies suck. But whatever…

The story goes on to say that neither Wayans brothers or Anna Faris would be involved.

So giddy up.

  1. Is there any point in this? These horrible parody movies don’t mean much without Anna Faris in it. Scary Movie is already 4 movies in, I don’t see why they can’t just make part 5 instead. I’m going to go ahead and declare this as a fail.

  2. I actually enjoyed the first movie when it came out just like I enjoyed the Naked Gun films and Airplane. I hated the sequel cause all it was was the exact same jokes from the first film. Then came the bi-yearly onslaught of “Movie” movies.

But rebooting Scary Movie to me actually makes sense. Since it is a movie that parody’s the recent horror films of the time, what should you do when all the horror films now are reboots and remakes?

  3. The first Scary Movie was funny because it hadn’t been done before and it poked fun at how dumb the horror movies had become and how easy it became to kill someone. The series obviously went too far and made sequels… stupid move. But a reboot, c’mon.

      1. Hey James,
Dude, i agree with you but not on the ‘ruled’ part. The movie was okay, I would give it a 6/10, but it was nothing compared to the first one.

And great ‘Drag me to hell review’.

  4. While I’m sure the idea of this new Scary Movie is to spoof up film series that have been rebooted/remade/restarted, I am specifically thinking Halloween or 90% of Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes works here, not just Batman, Star Trek or James Bond…

    ****
Note to John: The Wayans have not been involved with Scary Movie since the second installment; they were, however, behind this past summer’s ‘Dance Flick’.

    ****

In any case, my interest in this isn’t too high.

    1. No they aren’t. Look at at it this way: if it were so, there would be nothing left to spoof.

Yes we get a lot of remakes, reboots and spoofs.
But we get a ton of fresh stuff and new films that are not remakes, reboots and spoofs. In fact, such a film sits #1 at the box office right this very minute.

  5. You see, you see, I’m right. Hollywood doesn’t have any more original ideas. Is Hollywood afraid to take a risk on an original idea? Don’t give me that if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it mentality. Hollywood takes risks everyday. Why won’t they take a risk on an original screenplay or pitch? They won’t. They’ll just rehash whatever is on the shelf.

  6. Reboot? I don’t get it either. I actually liked the first scary movie. Hell, I even liked some of the second one, but it all went downhill from there. If the Wayans are not even involved then I’m definitely skipping this one.

  7. I love how everyone picks on the Scary Movie franchise.

These “brain dead writers” were actually the ones behind Airplane! and the Naked Gun and Kentucky Fried Movie. All quality movies, all quality writers. These Scary Movies are actually quite funny.

Let’s NOT confuse these guys with the people who did the awful “Date Movie” and “Meet the Spartans” and “Disaster Movie”, etc.

    1. and the Scary Movies were also started by the Wayans, who were behind :”I’m Gonna Git You Sucka”.

You are right in saying that we should not confuse David Zucker (who along with his brother and Abrahams) and Pat Proft were behind the best spoof films. such as Airplane, Naked Gun and Hot Shots, or even The Wayans for that matter with those responsible for ire like “Meet The Spartans”. “Epic Movie” and such. HOWEVER…

It’s easy to see the confusion. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer also contributed to the script of the first “Scary Movie”. They have NOT been connected to the series since.

It should be pointed out that the Scary Movie series actually spoofs and is occasionally funny. The Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer films are just overworking throwaway pop culture reference-sometimes even before those references catch on, or worse, when they don’t resulting in jokes that fall flat. They have almost no idea what they are spoofing. They are disjointed and all over the map.

Oh—folks? You want to see a damn good spoof movie? Here’s a classic for this kind of year:

      Young Frankenstein.

  8. I i am with u John i Hate these movie i remember when the first one came out everybody i know saw it and love it and when back to see it like 3 times and i hated it its a sham these movies get made and people go and see them and also people like them and laph when they see them

  9. The only way that this could work, I could think of, is if it spoofs hollywood’s rebooting obsession itself. The thing is, you would need to be clever and funny for that to work, and this is Scary Movie we are talking about.

    1. That is EXACTLY what I was going to say!! It is obvious they are spoofing the fact that we have been bomBARDED with rebooted movies!!! If they focus on that it might please the audience that goes to see it…… Not me though!

  10. NOOOOO, KILL IT BEFORE IT SEES THE LIGHT OF DAY, FUCK ALL THE SCARY MOVIES, THEY WERE ALL PIECES OF SHIT MOVIES AND THE FACT THAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY THINK THEY’RE GOOD MAKES ME WORRY ABOUT THE WELL-BEING OF OUR SPECIES!!!(takes deep breath).I know I’m in the minority, hate me all you want.

    1. I could see a million stupid jokes that these brain dead writers could make about that. Why make fun of good movies that make more money and get more positively praised than those piles of shit? They have no creativity.

    1. If it eases the pain (most likely it won’t), “Stan” looks like a piece of shit. What I would like to know is how the filmmakers bankrolled the thing- seeing how the monsters “Stan” fights are parodies of Chucky, Freddy, Jason and Pinhead–all of who keep the names/nicknames of Chucky, Freddy, Jason and Pinhead.

  11. Is the no Anna Faris supposed to be a bad thing? Not a fan of these movies, but I’m also not a fan of her. So when both are put together it becomes even worse than both on their own.

    1. yeah pretty much. It may have common actors but the stories are all just a mishmash of recently popular movies.

Maybe “reboot” is just a hot word right now… I mean they’ll just call it SCARY MOVIE RELOADED or something like that and have 50% of the same actors and go by their usual formula anyways right?
