Bill Murray Says McG Should Die

We all know that Bill Murray’s experience on the set of Charlie’s Angels was a miserable one. First, there was the reported incident on set where Murray openly blasted Lucy Liu in front of the cast and crew, saying “I don’t know what you’re doing here. You can’t act”, which lead to Liu physically attacking Murray to the point where they had to be pulled off each other. Then McG (the director of the movie) recently said that Murray actually headbutted him on set. No wonder Murray didn’t come back for the sequel.

Now, in an interview with the London Times, Murray not only denies McG’s allegations, he takes it one step further and says McG should be pierced with a lance… not just headbutted… and should DIE.

Damn Bill… tell us how you really feel.

After Terminator: Salvation, there are probably a lot of people who agree with Bill.

But here’s a question for you… do we like hearing about this stuff… or do we wish the people involved would just keep it quiet and between themselves?

  1. I dont care if Bill Murrays caught red-handed setting a dog on fire, he’s got my support through and through……FUCK MCG (Use a real name asshole)

and BTW the only good thing about charlies angels was Bill and Rockwell……….(and those skimpy outfits especially Drews)

  2. I’ve always hated hollywood infighting, but I love everything Bill Murray does, and I agree that McG should be pierced with a lance- so I don’t really have a problem with this.

  3. Since the only film McG helmed that I really liked front to end was ‘We Are Marshall’ – and there were bits of last summer’s Salvation I did like.

That said there is a special place in the fires of Hell for the Charlies Angels films. I don’t know which of Dante’s Nine Circles would the films be placed exactly, but I’m sure there’s a reserved parking space somewhere.

It seems Murray’s comment is off the cuff, but also a response to a claim made by McG that he assaulted him. If the claims by McG are exaggerated, and it’s news to Bill, it digs up old wounds. I can understand that. However I wouldn’t cut Murray much slack here. Murray admits to having words with members of the cast, but denies the assault. That’s all he has to do and say about the matter. He can call McG a flat out liar if he wants. But wishing a horrible death for someone who you disagreed with years ago?

    That’s uncool.

    ****

BTW, an int’l friend mentioned Christian Bale’s blowup on Terminator Salvation. It was between Bale and the cameraman, not Bale and McG. The issue had also been resolved before the film’s release.

  4. I do enjoy reading these dishes, but I have to disagree with the “Bill’s earned it” comments. Just because you were successful up until the early 90s doesn’t give you the right to be a giant douche. Which is basically what Bill has reduced himself to over the course of the last decade with his off-screen behavior, similarly to Eddie Murphy (who was also funny once, some 20ish years ago).

Keep the spats private, or at least in within the circles of the industry. I haven’t enjoyed any of McG’s movies, but that doesn’t mean plenty of either people haven’t.

  5. Didn’t Bill Murray and Chevy Chase have a massive argument way back when(caddyshack set possibly) that still hasn’t been resolved? This could be a myth but pretty sure I read it a few years ago.

As likable as Bill Murray seems maybe he, like all of us can be an a-hole from time to time. Nobody is perfect and doesn’t mean I like him any less.

On the other hand I think he was being sarcastic anyway.

  6. I enjoy hearing stuff like this because I always get annoyed when people always talk about how everyone was great on set and stuff because alot of times I don’t believe it for a second, I mean with all the movies being made I’m sure theres atleast a few where at least some of the people on set aren’t getting along.
Hearing a few of these types of stories every once and a while makes me accept that some of the “oh everyone was just so great” and “oh that person was like the nicest person I’ve ever met” comments I hear from people involved in the movie industry.

  7. Bill is a ensemble movie comic when there other people to play off is good, what starring role have bill Murray knocked out of the park?

Allan you’re right Bill murray hardly ever has a staring role and films where he is part of a comedic ensemble is when he is at his best Caddayshack, Royal Tennebaulms, Life aquatic etc HOWEVER the exception to the rule has to be Groundhog day, Phil Connors rocks the casbah!

  8. I quite like McG personally – We are Marshall was a really good film – plus anyone who is linked to Supernatural in anyway is OK by me (no matter what other crappy films they’ve been involved with.

  9. Of course we want to hear this shit. The movie going audience needs the dirt. It makes watching the film again fun. Means the next time you’re w/ a group of people & for some odd reason you are watching Charlie’s Angels, you can say… did you know…????
And maybe your friends will care.
Or maybe you guys can just try and pick up on all the sneering Murry may do or Lui may do. That’s the fun part.
Let’s see if their “Talen” out shines their Feelings of Hatred.

  10. Before I get attacked, I heard this story before and I’ll ask “who the hell is bill Murray?”, ghost busters, stripes, the razors edge. If I paid to see Charlie’s angels Lucy Liu should get more attention than bill Murray ( a bit character in this movie) , wise cracking smartelec gimmick only goes so far. Robin Williams works harder than bill Murray ever worked, and gets half the credit. Bill is a ensemble movie comic when there other people to play off is good, what starring role have bill Murray knocked out of the park? McG have enough problem trying to control bat-ego as it is.

  11. I’m sure murray is a professional and he seems on screen to be a good guy to work with and fun. Although, sometimes a side of him comes out that shows this may be him overreacting, like the time he huffed and puffed about losing the oscar race lost in translation. Aside from eddie murphy, I can’t think of anyone else who is that much of a sore loser. I don’t think much of McG anyways though and by the roster of his films, I wouldn’t ask for his death, but I’d head butt him.

  12. Bill Murray is a VERY sarcastic man. I hold off judgment until I can see a video and place it in context.

I’m curious if Bale would still do a Terminator sequel with McG directing.

  13. My guess is there is more to this story than just Bill Murray thinking McG is a bad director. Sounds like serious bad blood between them. Anyway, McG does suck.

Bill Murray passing on the sequel to Charlie’s Angels is a non-story though. To date, Murray has only done one sequel: Ghostbusters 2, and he only did it because he was roped into it by his desperate friends. His refusal to do Ghostbusters 3 is the reason it’s been trapped in limbo all these years.

  14. I think all their drama is ridiculous.

I mean…we listen…but it’s frustrating for most of us who don’t really care. It’s like listening to an employee of Wal-Mart complaining every effing day about how much they hate their boss.

    Damn, get overrrrr it.

Show a little maturity, celebs, and leave all your trashtalk for when the cameras aren’t around.

    That being said…I love Murray.

  15. I think it shouldn’t be made too public, because there are obviously things that happen on set with high tension… there are plenty of witnesses around to spread the gossip. Like Murray on the set of WHAT ABOUT BOB? where he pulled producer Laura Ziskin’s glasses off, dropped them to the floor, and stomped on them in front of about 15 crew members.

  16. Bill Murray putting a lance thru McG’s chest = Zombie Kill of the Week.

Anyone who insists on being known as “McG” deserves a punch in the face. If things escalate from there, then, oh well.

  17. Well you have to believe there is something to this as its a pattern on McG sets right? Bill Murry has a meltdown, Christian Bale has a “Volcano Eruption” on set, so what is happening on McG sets that make actors lose their marbles? It just seems it is more than coincidence now, I would be interested to hear if anyone else had troubles on a McG set as well.

  18. Well it’s a bit extreme, but as crappy as T:S was, it’s just a movie, and I love Bill, but jeez wishing death on someone?, What actor has not had a bad experience on a movie or TV show? McG is no artist, but hey we all gotta make a living, even if it is by making cheesy movies from old TV shows or wrecking what was once a great franchise, but hey who am I to judge.

  19. I agree, Bill Murray has earned the right and I don’t think McG has….yet. And it’s just a figure of speech, saying “McG should be pierced with a lance… not just headbutted… and should DIE” is basically saying he wants nothing to do with him EVER! Nothing wrong with that in my book

      1. The “in my book” part. Personally, I’m not offended by his comment. He wasn’t serious.

IMO, some people can get away with some dark statements like that, and some can’t. The former are usually people I think are funny. The latter are usually people trying to be funny that aren’t.

  20. Damn, I like Bill Murray and everything, but you shouldn’t wish death on anyone. I don’t like any of McG’s films, but damn, I don’t want the man to die. If this is joke, then it’s not a funny one.

    1. Anthony, this isn’t a news site… it’s a blog. I don’t “report” anything. I’m a film fan who talks about stuff I hear. So I wanted to talk about it and ask you guys for your opinion.
