Up! Easter Eggs Found

Now that the world is all Up with Up, a grand tradition of Pixar films is abound.

Spot the Easter Eggs. The hidden tributes to other films and personal nods of the producers of the film.

Well in the internet age, these urban legends and word of mouth references are a thing of the past, we now have a mass collective offering up things they saw, and /Film has a pile!

– Standard John Ratzenberger Cameo: Construction Foreman Tom

– A113: a reference to the classroom number that was used by Animation students like Lasseter and other Pixar crew, is found as the Courtroom number.

– Carl’s court summons features the number 94070, the Zip Code where Brad Lewis (Pixar Producer/Director) was once Mayor.

– Buy N Large logo on some of the Construction Workers hats

– The Generic Grape Soda from the Buzz Lightyear commercials is on Carl’s Hat.

– A stylized Pizza Planet truck is seen as the house lifts off and we get a view looking down at the street

– Lotso the Bear (Toy Story 3) is under the girl’s bed as the house and balloons float by, as well the Luxo Ball is on the floor of her room.

– Many Oakland landmarks and oddities make appearances.

My favourite so far is the appearance of a clip that was a popular internet Failblog feature. In the promo clip “Meet Russell” we see Carl watching the shop@home network.

and the original Failblog clip showing the on screen blunder, and you can hear the audio used.

Always a treat to find these moments.

    1. You’re right on the money! That woman *does* look like Elastigirl from The Incredibles. =D

I’m almost thought that the birds that flew from the powerlines as Frederickson’s house flew through the city would be the blue birds from one of Pixar’s shorts, but they just looked like pidgeons. ;p

    1. It does slightly look like and sound like him doesn’t it.

He was looking right at that image and he still said horse. WoW, I am impressed.

    2. He wasn’t looking at the picture, he grabbed it looking at the screen and propped it up facing away from him. He was told it would be a horse and he went on to give a general description of it waving his hands around on the front of the image. He didnt see it until someone off camera points it out to him that it was not a horse.

  1. I also have a SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER question, so stop reading this NOW if you haven’t seen the movie.

There’s a debate raging about whether the doctor scene in the opening montage is the result of Ellie being infertile or Ellie miscarrying a pregnancy. I believe it’s infertility, but some folks are saying, “But they were painting a nursery, and nobody does that until they’re actually pregnant! She miscarried!” I find that to be bullshit as I know plenty of people prep a room in their house for a baby before they even start trying to have the baby. Also, one miscarriage wouldn’t stop most people from trying again to have a baby.

    1. Probably deliberately vague. That’s a little morbid for a family film. Likely just said something just to establish the lack of kids.

A lot of women who miscarry are hesitant to try again. Its an emotional burden to endure.

  2. Can someone clear up the part when Carl and Russell are discussing his parents, did Russell’s father pass away? Who was away on business all the time, his mother? I don’t know why/how I missed that whole part.

    1. No, Russell’s dad is alive, but it is strongly implied that his parents are divorced and his father is with another women. He says he calls his dad all the time, but “Phillis says I bother him too much.” Carl says, “You call your mother by her first name?”, and Russell replies “Phillis isn’t my mom”.
