The Road Trailer is Online

The Road is a movie based on the Cormac McCarthy novel of the same name. Esquire Magazine calls the movie “the Most Important Film of the Year” and I can’t help but be moved by it.

/Film describes it:

The film tells the story of a man (Viggo Mortensen) and his young son (Kodi Smit McPhee.) traveling through a desperate, post-apocalyptic world. The flap jacket on the book describes the setting as “burned America.”The film co-stars Robert Duvall and Charlize Theron, and Guy Pearce.

Check out the Trailer:

The cast, the concept, and the character driven story just make me want to see this.

  1. the film is a must watch if only to see cody smitmcphee part in it he one the best up and coming acter award in2007 austie for is part in romilus is my farther .he is headed for stardem as he grives up[only13 when he did this film.]

  2. I don’t get why all of the people are after the family! i gess reading the book would help out with that. as for action it looks like its going to have a whole bunch of it. i probably will end up seeing it.

    1. The action is made to look like it’s more in the film to sell it. There is hardly any action in it and the story and pacing is very slow. This is a character piece not an action movie. But this is the Weinstein company and they need every hit they can muster up.

  3. so im guessing guy peirce is the tracker guy?
theron is not the name of his wife its the name of the actress….the child in the movie looks awesome (reminds how bad anakin ws in star wars cause this kid is so much better) the scenes in the trailer about with the disaster shit has to just be basically a prologue for what made the earth like that….looks good, dont know about oscar buzz yet but the i will say this that the scenes u seen in the movie dont do justice to what u didnt see that they had to have put in the movie…so its possible for lots of buzz.

  4. No No No!!! This trailer is all wrong. What’s with all the disaster footage at the beginning? It’s never said exactly what happened in the book. What’s with Theron in every other scene? They make it look like she’s on the journey with them or something. She’s barely mentioned in the book. And what’s with the action/thriller tone? They make it look like terminator salvation or something. Screw that trailer. They got it all wrong. I pray that it’s just a misleading trailer and the movie will have the tone of the book. Color me disappointed.

    1. OH MY GOD NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Yeah, looks like it, but I’ll bet it’s just how they cut the trailer. Looks pretty good and is very close to the book. I’ll also bet all that disaster footage is in the opening credits, if that. the parts with theron are all in the flashbacks. I just want to know why it was pushed back so much, wasn’t it supposed to come last november? can this be a good sign? probably not.

    2. I haven’t read the book so I have no idea what the trailer should or should not look like. That said I have to disagree with you. I didn’t get the impression that the woman (who you called Theron) went on the journey. It seems as if she is always at the same place. Also the disaster footage may not be in the book but in a movie I think it is necessary. I can’t imagine that it would take away from the story and the amount of time it would take to play it would be minimal. They don’t even have to say how it happened, they just show all the bad stuff happening and people would say “what happened” the others would say “I have no idea”.

Trailers are meant to be misleading. Look at the trailer for star trek and what the implied in it and then compare it to what happened in the movie. I don’t think there is any need to worry.

    3. Ya, read up a bit on it. From what I read the movie is supposed to stick pretty tightly with the book and that the trailer is quite misleading in the pace of the movie. So try not to overreact and judge the movie based on the trailer. It was probably cut in such a way to get the attention of people that might otherwise overlook the movie.

  5. I’ve not yet read the book, I guess I was alittle put off by once it got endorsed by Oprah, I figured how good could it be if “soccer moms” are being placated to into reading it. But upon reading the Esquire article, I’m currently waiting to buy a copy. Im still weary with Weinsteins marketing approach, it seems they’re making broad strokes so to attract a young male crowd, an action oriented audience ; when from what I understood in the article, the book & film is more in the same vein as CHILDREN OF MEN & THERE WILL BE BLOOD. It will be interesting to see how things change, the closer it comes to it’s release date. Will it lower expectations or trick viewers into their seats. A movie is either redeemed or killed by the Weinstein’s manuevers.

    1. Because we all know that Oprah couldn’t possibly be watched by anyone other than brainless soccer moms. Your assesment that people who read books and watch Oprah would obviously be less intellectual or emotionally mature as you, just because they are watching Oprah.

For someone who wants to share their insight you opened up with a statement illustrating your narrow minded point of view.

    2. well i agree with you rodney but im pretty sure he is saying that if u look at the track record of books oprah says to read…this one is way way way different then the other books she has told america to read….i mean this a book that would make most women cry hardcore or be disturbed…compared to the “happy ending”… “life changing” motivational” books oprah usually endorses….but good for oprah for endorsing this book cause it is a good one.

    3. No matter how open minded people think they are, everybody still has narrow minded point of views. Go ahead and disagree with me, it will just prove my point! :D muahahahaha

  6. I am also looking forward to this movie. I have read the book several times and I look forward to it’s interpretation on film.
To Jaime: I am also Australian and love Rusty’s attitude. Besides, he is an actor not a politician. Why does everyone have to be so perfect and a role model? Good on Rusty for breaking the mould of the hollywood model these days.

    1. Hey Rosey. I agree with you, everyone should run their own way in life, regardless of whether that fits in with what others want, and you’re right, we certainly don’t need Australians becoming Americanised, I like that he treats journos with the respect some of them deserve which is very litte, and I like the way he says whatever he wants. But the whole “Bra Boys” thing where he has really aligned himself with those guys and that culture, which to me is just romantacising thugs lost me a little on Russ.

  7. The kid, Kodi Smit McPHee is from my home town in Australia, he was in this film called The King for like one scene and stole the whole movie. He is gonna be a huge star. Aussie, Aussie Aussie. Oi Oi Oi. Just hope he doesn’t turn into an a-hole like Russel (though he’s a Kiwi when he makes trouble). Looks great, the Directors first movie was The Proposition, an Australian Western, one of the best of the genre.

  8. that looked damn good and makes me wanna read the book. idk if i should tho, i read i am legend (fantastic story/book) before the movie and hated the movie for it..lol

    1. well its not a bad ending, it leaves the assumption something could be gained but…..still in the long run the kid is fucked….i read this a while back after i heard about it from a friend that i told to read world war z…he said it was a different kind of story…well i will tell you this….it has some spuer fucked up shit in it.

  9. I read the book some time ago, and it’s absolutely heart wrenching. Just be sure that you bring extra tissues to the theatre, because I guarantee you that this will be a tear jerker. I can’t wait to see what Viggo Mortensen brings to the table with this performance. Something tells me that this movie will be nominated for Best Picture when Oscar season rolls around, and if it’s half as great as the book, then it will be well deserved.
