As sick as we get of seeing Angelina Jolie splattered all over every magazine in every store in every city in the world, you’ve got to admit that when she gets down to work, she is a damn fine actress (insanity not withstanding), and even though I thought the Tomb Raider films were a bit of a waste, I have to admit I did like Jolie in the action hero role… which would explain why I also liked her so much in Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Word out now is that Jolie has signed up for the lead character in a new franchise of movies based on a real life government operative named Kathi Lynn Austin. The folks over at M&C give us this:
Variety reports Austin has handled field missions all around the world (including Africa, Europe and Central America). The film version of her story will follow a fictional arms dealer who will be based on Victor Bout (a Russian thought to be one of the world’s biggest arms movers).
Hmmm… a new action franchise based on a real person (if I’m understanding that right)? That’s actually a pretty cool idea. Obviously they take massive amounts of creative license, but it still has my interest. Putting someone like Jolie in the lead only solidifies that interest. As a side note… holy crap have you seen her new trailer for Wanted yet?
