Where the Truth Lies gets NC-17

ColinFirth.jpgKevin Bacon and Colin Firth are in the crucial orgy scene of Where the Truth Lies that’s responsible for its NC-17 rating. From the BBC:

The sexually explicit film was granted an NC-17 rating by the Motion Picture Association of America a month ago.

Director Atom Egoyan made cuts to the film, which includes an orgy scene, in a failed bid to challenge its rating.

Some cinemas in the US refuse to show NC-17 films, which cannot be seen by anyone aged 17 or under.

Well heaven forbid in this drug, gun and gang ridden culture we can’t possibly show an adult sex scene! What might happen? People will run outside the cinema and have sex!! Well, surely that’s better than shooting and killing each other?

“The good news is the film will go out as it was originally intended,” said Egoyan.

Where the Truth Lies, which screens next week at the Toronto Film Festival, tells of a 1950s comedy duo implicated in the death of a woman.

“The film is basically about the power of celebrity and the abuse of that power,” said Blanchard, who appeared with Egoyan before the MPAA appeals board on Wednesday.

Good. Egoyan reported that he had trimmed the movie as much as he could and anymore would hurt the heart of it, so it’s good in a way that they have kept the rating the same so that (most) people can see the original.

  1. I saw the trailer for this one when we caught 40-Year-Old-Virgin, and well, let me tell you, my pulse raced. I can’t wait to see this one. A complete orgy of debauchery and excesses. It’s going to be fabulous! Atom has finally made a film I’m excited to see because it’s got alive subject matter, unless his other movies which made me excited to cure my insomnia.

  2. lol Richard..I never like to hear a movie trims back some of it scenes to get a lower rating.. Horror Films are by far the worst example of this, they keep cutting back and back until its more funny then it is scary, maybe if those horror films aimed for that R rating we would be given better quality films
