Sex And The City Sequel Already In Motion

I’ve never watched a single episode of Sex and the City, so when I went to see the flick I was worried I wouldn’t be able to follow what was going on… and as someone who is the proud possessor of a penis, i didn’t really think there was much chance I’d enjoy it… but surprisingly enough I thought the movie was pretty good. Certainly not great, but good.
The money this movie made was crazy (not as much as a lot of people thought it would make, but tons nonetheless) lead me to believe that another Sex and the City movie would be coming sooner rather than later. And some people scoffed at me:
“Oh John… the actresses won’t want to do another one”
“Oh John… this one finished off the story perfectly”
But I’ve always maintained that these actresses… despite what their PR people may say to maintain their image, would jump, claw and beg to get another one of these films made because let’s face it… none of them have a career outside of this franchise. That includes Sarah Jessica Parker (who has done nothing of note). Once you get accustomed to the money and attention and fame… then you realize no one cares about you outside of the franchise… you start looking for a way back into that franchise ASAP.
Well, turns out a Sex and the City sequel is already well underway. The good folks over at Cinematical give us the following:
Luckily, single men will most likely have another opportunity to mingle with the SATC crowd over a tub of popcorn and a sexy Dr. Pepper as Entertainment Weekly reports a sequel to Sex and the City is already in development and is apparently being fast-tracked by Warner Brothers (New Line put out the first flick). Michael Lombardo, president of HBO’s programming group, told folks during a press tour that “there’s a lot of energy behind doing another SATC movie.”
This is a no brainer. Simple business sense dictates they do it. But my one question is this… what do you make the movie about? I’ve got to agree with most people that the movie seemed to tie everything off (almost too tidily) at the end. Where do you go from here? Does “Big” die? Do two of them become lesbians?

Christ kill me now…I just about accepted the fact that a TV series and a film existed but now we have to talk about a sequel?
*pulls out gun and places in mouth*
click……
Actually, Cynthia Nixon has quite a theatre career. She won a Tony award in 2006. But this probably means she *will* want to do another movie because it will help finance her doing more theatre.
Dude I was the only one with a penis when I saw it.
I took my girl friend to watch it and she was jumping up and down. Like when I was watching Iron Man. I saw the show and I like it.
Yeah I still have my penis. But come on a other SATC film ???? The first one was 2 long. Do we need more of this sluts walking the city of New York .It sounds like this would be great on the Lifetime Television Network
Oh by the way Cynthia Nixon ( the hot red hair one) is a lesbian And Sarah Jessica Parker looks like a transsexual.
Well, they already did a lesbian storyline in the show. Samantha had a female lover for a few episodes.
woah John, did you not call Smart People one of the best movies of 2008 so far? And then say SJP has done nothing of note?
Was SJP not in that film?
Hey Max,
Yes, SJP was in it… and she was the weakest part of it. Also, the film bombed horribly. The general public has next to no interest in SJP outside of SATC.
It’s funny, I was just thinking about a sequel as I was watching the series at home, of which I have all six seasons on DVD.
I think the sequel would consist of Carrie and Big having a child and the shenanigans they get into dealing with that. I don’t want to spoil anything for people who haven’t seen it yet, but Samantha has the opportunity for a bigger storyline because of what happened with her in the first movie.
Either that or they should start following a new set of younger women that are somehow tied in with Carrie that are struggling with issues facing single women today to kind of pass the torch and maybe spawn a new generation of Sex and the City. We still want to see our four original women though!
I don’t know how well faithful fans like me would take to that much change though. They would have to be REALLY well casted and fabulous.
Either way, I just love watching Carrie, Big, Charlotte, Miranda, Samantha, and Co. and I’m sure a sequel would be well received by the series’ die-hard fan base.
I loved the film, and didn’t think it was long at all. I’m excited that there could be another film for SATC
the thing I find funny is that people people said it wouldn’t make money. It is making more per theater than The Incredible Hulk.
For some people, they were never going to like the film –and you know what that’s fine. It’s just that people insulted this film, many without seeing it, just to comment on it. I liked it, and it seemed everyone in the theater I saw it with did too (based on the clapping, cheering and good words leaving the theater).
And I imagine that Michael Patrick could come up with the right stuff for another movie. I mean i loved the TV series and the movie so he’ on a roll with me
just my thoughts
oh man not another one! i’m tired of these types of films topping the box office. but people will see what they wanna see
these types of films, what is that. I mean I’m not a extreme horror fan (prefer “Scream” type of horror) but the Saw and Hostel film tops the box office. I think it’s great that there are movies for every type of movie fan. I’m not going out to see You Don’t Mess With Zohan, but it was number 2 it’s first week and that’s’ cool if people want to see it. It’s nice to have options
And I thought SATC was a funny movies with characters i grew to love and care for over six seasons
he it the story for the movie they all get hiv and die boom
This is awful, but sadly inevitable news.
We’ll now have to endure the hype preceeding this abomination all over again.
I don’t get it. I’ve heard many, many men call the women of Sex and The City, sluts.
Granted, their sex life is quite unbelievable (at least to me), but if real life women were to sleep and move on like they do (like *men* do) why do they get to be called sluts?
Imo, if they can keep coming with decent storylines, women will be seeing whatever movie the SaTC franchise can throw. It’ll be like Bond for women. Come to think of it, is James Bond a nymphomaniac, or just simply a man-whore?
no, i didn’t mean i’m tired of movies of this kind topping the box office. what i meant was they made a series. the made one movie.
why the freak make another one, besides the fact that it was pretty popular
Uh…why make a another one? it made money and was a hit for the targeted audience – isn’t that called a successful venture?
I am a fan, true, but I hope they improve the story line. Jennifer Hudson could get married and Samantha does the planning and they all attend – making the story go slightly in an additional character’s direction. Charlotte could teach art at her children’s school. Miranda could represent Big in a lawsuit and they suddenly become poor or he could go to jail…. Carrie goes to work for a publishing house…..or more focus could be at her job, she has to go on assignment overseas for Vogue, etc. look at the original stories and build it better…
I thought the writing for the Series was very clever but the writing for the movie fell flat to me. If they do a sequel PLEASE PLEASE hope that the writing improves–because it can. Add some mystery and not predictable stuff that was resolved in a (to me) fake way. I personally (and I’m only speaking for myself) do not see how anyone who liked the Series would like the movie. That said, yes, in a sequel, major uncomfortable stuff happening without easy resolutions. INTERESTING, you know. And this thing of women having sex like men? What the heck is that? Do we talk about men having sex like women? Is that in our cultural language for gosh sakke’s? Can’t women figure out how to have sex like authentic women? And it wouldn’t look like “men having sex” or “women having sex to please men” or “women having sex to massage their egos or out of loneliness.”

I am very curious as to what happened to Stanford and Anthony. I mean originally they hated each other and when Stanford showed up on new year’s eve Anthony was like “Oh thank God.” And they kind of looked like they enjoyed the kiss and were trying to hide it.
they were also sitting next to each other at the end of the movie,, I wonder did those two men become a couple?
Or they could still write about Stanford and Anthony about what’s it’s like to be a homosexual man in New York,, I don’t know.
