Road House 2 Finds Its New Director
After the success of Road House on Prime Video, which brought in 80 million viewers in its first eight weeks, Amazon MGM Studios is moving quickly on a sequel. The studio has found its next director in Ilya Naishuller, the filmmaker behind Heads of State and Nobody.
Ilya Naishuller Joins the Road House Franchise
Naishuller’s Heads of State premiered on Prime Video on July 2 and has held the number one spot on the platform since its release. His style of fast-paced action and stylized direction made him a natural pick to lead Road House 2. Production is expected to begin this fall.
Script and Production Details
The original remake was penned by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry, but the sequel will be written by Will Beall. His writing credits include Gangster Squad, Aquaman, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and the recent hits Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
Returning Cast and Possible New Additions
Jake Gyllenhaal is confirmed to reprise his role as Elwood Dalton, the ex-UFC fighter turned bouncer. He is also on board as a producer under Nine Stories Productions, along with Josh McLaughlin. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner will produce the film for Atlas Entertainment.
While plot details remain under wraps, reports suggest that Dave Bautista could be joining the cast in an undisclosed role. His addition would bring even more star power and muscle to the high-octane sequel.
Naishuller’s Action Credentials
Naishuller made his feature debut with the first-person action film Hardcore Henry before directing Nobody, which turned Bob Odenkirk into a surprise action star. With Heads of State continuing to perform well on Prime Video, Naishuller is poised to bring a distinct vision to the Road House sequel. This will mark his fourth feature film as a director.
