John August to write Monsterpocalypse

John August is now been tapped to write the board game to big screen adpatation of Monsterpocalypse that will be co-produced by the game’s creator Matt Wilson.

RamaScreen says:

John August (Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Corpse Bride, DARK SHADOWS, FRANKENWEENIE) has been hired by the studio to pen the script..

A deal hasn’t been made to get Burton to direct MONSTERPOCALYPSE but talks are ongoing.

This could be a very strong move to get Burton on board the project. Just hire one of his favourite screen writers! How can Burton say no now?

The board game looks insanely fun, but lacks any real story – which makes it perfect for an adaptation. The principal is giant monsters wreaking havok in a city scape, and with a blank slate to run with the concept, anything can happen.

  1. I’m really hoping Tim Burton will be the one helming this project. I’m a huge fan of his works. I think it will be interesting to see how this movie goes… I reckon it should still be fun yet with some intriguing and thrilling elements thrown in. The logo for the board game reminded me of the logo I had, which was designed by LogoDesignCreation – the font of it looked really cool, by the way. I got plenty of compliments for it. :) I’m wondering will Johnny Depp be in it if Burton is directing? And Helena Bonham Carter as well? Haha. Can’t wait for more news on this one.

  2. I loved Big Fish. Corpse Bride was interesting and good in its own way, too. I’m looking forward to this concept and particularly with August involved.
