Zemeckis plans next Christmas with The Nutcracker

Robert Zemeckis is having a love affair and he is making us watch. His mistress? Motion Capture animation and Christmas.

Polar Express was just one try, now A Christmas Carol. But he isn’t done there! The classic Christmas tale The Nutcracker is next on his list.

Film Junk

Zemeckis wants to use motion capture to retell the Christmas classic The Nutcracker. The movie would be based on the E.T.A. Hoffmann novel, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, and set in 19th century Russia. And yes, of course it will use his patented performance capture technology, and will likely be released in 3-D.

I didn’t care at all for that horror film called the Polar Express. Even Tom Hanks loveable charm wasn’t enough to get me past those eyes. Those creepy haunting eyes!!!

Well it looks like the eyes are a little less creepy in A Christmas Carol so maybe its a step in the right direction.

  1. I love Polar Express and i’m sure that A christmas carol will be amazing despite the critic. As long as technology and emotions go hand in hand i’m ok with it. I like christmas storys and Zemeckis seems to be the one to bring them to life just as i imagine them. For this time of year movies like that are just perfect, i can’t imagine anything better.

  2. the technology keeps getting better but its the application that makes it worthwhile. lord of the rings is a simple example of how beowulf could have looked amazing but it didnt.

And the motioncapture always requires animators to tweek every facet of the performance. whats the point. just shoot it.

leave cg features to likes of pixar and dreamworks and photorealistic effects work for live action compositing.

this post will make no difference but its a pet peeve and i got ten minutes to bang my head against a wall.
