Dane Cook wants to play The Riddler

The assumption is that after Nolan is done with his pet project he will get back to that movie you know we all really are waiting for, and perhaps he is just waiting for someone to write it for him. That must be why actors are all publicly auditioning for roles in a movie he hasn’t even started working on.

Now Dane Cook wants to be the Riddler in the movie Nolan hasn’t made yet.

Worst Previews says:

“I love the new ‘Dark Knight’ series and ‘Batman Begins,'” Cook told MTV News. “If they brought back The Riddler — a new Riddler the way they did with The Joker — that would be bad-ass. I would do that. That would be it. I could retire after that.”

I know its all just wishful thinking and career talking. Yeah, who wouldn’t want to be a part of the most anticipated third chapter since Return of the Jedi?

But thats all it is. Talk. Maybe if they say it out loud it will find its way to Nolan’s ears and the light will go on, then we will all be talking about how Nolan hired Dane Cook to play the Riddler, Miley Cyrus as Batgirl, and Angelina Jolie as Catwoman. All because they expressed interest in it and it made sense to him.
We don’t even know who is going to be IN the film or even if Nolan will sign on for it (we assume he will) so its all speculation and self promotion.

No one else was talking about Dane Cook for a movie role so this off the cuff statement just went viral online and suddenly his name is out there again!

I feel so used.

  1. Got a shit load of bat comics from 70’s-2008 so I got a grip on the bat, point is I dont want to see re-hased versions of villans ALREADY in batfilms.. that’s why begins was cool cause not everyone knows that origin and ninja side. so this was interesting and new.. The Joker is always cool to watch/read about. BUT who wants to see another Riddler? or Penquin? bring on the new…
Just like Supe’s with Lex Luthur It’s tired already.

    nuff said

    1. You never said anything about villains and neither did I. My point is, if Nolan chooses (x) villain to tell his story then there’s obviously a good reason for it. It can be the goddamn Calender Man for all I care.

  2. If Dane Cook or Johnny Depp are cast as the Riddler… I’m definately not going to see the film. I say let’s cast someone fans wanted to see in the 90s Batman. Robin Williams!

I’m not talking about the crazy-mork Robin Williams, but the crafty–creepy Williams we seldom see.

  3. Dane Cook? HUH……

Hey this is Batman and Anything can happen..

Weve seen pretty much all of the good ones already done. Riddler, Penquin, Catwoman, Joker (best one),DR. Freeze (laughable) so who really gives a shit already, It’ll probally be 2 more years anyway and I think Nolan reached his peak with this Old Horse already, the rest is just blah, blah, blah.

  4. Neil Patrick Harris needs to be the Riddler! That would be Epic! Throw him in a dark script and allow him to add his own little wit… I’d like to see him play a demented riddler!

  5. I would not watch it if Jolie and Cyrus were in it. Dane can act when giving a good script, but always has a part of him in it. and when I think riddler I do not think Dane Cook and really don’t want to. So let’s hope Nolan doesn’t listen to Cook.

    1. Guy Pearce would be a solid choice, though he’s very picky with his roles.. but here’s hoping his connection with Nolan could help that. Ryan Gosling isn’t a bad choice either!

If I was to throw a random name in the mix.. though very doubtful. Milo from Heroes I could see pulling off the role as well, he’s expressed interest previously in being involved in some way. But as I said before, Nolan will give us someone nobody expects (if it even is The Riddler that is!)

  6. In a word, NO.

The reason I came to this is not only the guy is incapable of transcending humour at all never mind as The Riddler, is the very fact that the arrogant sh*t says he could “retire” after it. Dream on.

As was the case with The Joker, Nolan will cast someone nobody has mentioned or even thought of most likely. I’m not psychic, but there’s as much chance of him casting Dane Cook as there is Eddie Murphy.

  7. The whole him retiring part sounds good, but rather not even imagine him being the riddler even for a second. I quite like the way I see his future movies – he’ll be in none that I’ll ever see.

  8. I’ve read the graphic novel that The Dark Knight was based upon (it’s AWESOME)–and it seems that Nolan borrowed heavily from the first instalment of that graphic novel series, as well, though he did it with the elan and panache only he was born with.

If he continues to follow that series, the next film SHOULD be about Batman visiting Arkham Asylum, where the Joker’s taken over and released all the inmates and is keeping people hostage. Batman must go inside and face his worst nightmares–i.e, ALL of his enemies in one place, ALL mad, ALL out to get him…..

Of course, the Joker was/is SUPER essential to this plot, so I don’t know how or if they’ll adapt this, if they plan to go ahead at all (fingers crossed)……

    1. Now THAT would be an interesting choice. Crispin Glover can play the role of a disturbed mind well, and IF (this is only a guesstimation) there where to be a Riddler in the next Batman film, Mr. Glover would be a great casting indeed.

  9. Nice to see the great reception the films have gotten and to at least hear once that someone else has an idea to play the Riddler besides Johnny Depp. Dane is not my choice. But I see a not well known actor or character actor in the greens. After seeing the lastest Riddler from playing Arkham Asylum, it was really renewed my interest in the character.

  10. After a brief thought, I’d say if he was true to his word and The Riddler is involved in the next Batfilm (I doubt it, but who knows?) then I say consider him.

I didn’t say give it to Dane Cook. I said consider him.
And if he is The Riddler, hold him to his word.

Pass or fail, once you played The Riddler Dane…retire.

No, seriously, he has to be considered just like any other actor. He won’t get it, Riddler might not be even in the film but I truly mean it, joking aside. Give him an audition, give him a chance. Even if he does not play The Riddler but another role.

Some folks mention how lackluster he is in some of his movies. In supporting roles (such as Mr.Brooks) he seems to be okay. But that is beside the point. Even the late Heath Ledger has been in some stinkers.

I’m NOT NOT NOT NOT saying Dane Cook “should” or “would” play the Riddler- or any other Batman related character. All I’m saying is, give him the 1 in 1,000000 shot.

      1. Oh, so I make a case that Cook, at face value, is just another actor who would love to land a big gig if he can, if the character is in the film, and he should have his name in the hat, even though more than likely he won’t get it (if it is there)…

While everyone else has a knee jerk reaction to Cook’s statement?

I also had to make myself 100% clear before my counter-argument would be scolded. Lot of good that did.

  11. well i would like to have 100 virgins waiting for me in heaven…but the odds of that happening are nil haha dane cook is not funny and all the people who think he is funny must hate children and flowers!

  12. Aww – Rodney’s part of the machine! (jk)

Cook has zero chance of this … like the previous “enemies,” in these films, Nolan will cast an “actor” and not a “celebrity.”

    Do we all “get that?”

    I love the ” ” marks…)

  13. He’s a delusional idiot if he thinks that he could ever seriously be considered to play The Riddler. The character is a brilliant mind, Dane Cook…not so much. Now if we’re talking old franchise Batman and you asked me if Jim Carrey or Dane Cook, I’d say Dane Cook. Nolan’s Batman franchise however, not in a million years!

    1. He’s just saying that he’d like to do it if given the opportunity. I’m sure he knows that his chance to get a part in it are minimal.
He likes the franchise and would love to take part in it if asked. Like most of us would do.
Put down the knee jerk Hatorate for a while.

  14. Wow. Trigger happy much? Um… yeah I was just going say this would be the end of the franchise for me.

    Dane Cook as Riddler:

“Hey, what’s the deal with Riddles anyway? Anyone notice when you say ‘Riddle’ over and over and it just doesn’t mean anything? Say it. Say ‘Riddle’. What’s up with that?”
