This is kind of an odd / cool little story. Writer Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho, Rules Of Attraction, Less Than Zero) wrote a book that came out back in 2005 called “Lunar Park“. In the book, the main character is… well… himself. It’s a story that follows (in a semi-autobiographical way) his “tale that details the early fame he received when his literary career took off in the Eighties, then blurs it with such fictional details as terrorist attacks, ghost hauntings, and a marriage to an actress.”
Anyway, it looks like he’s landed Benicio Del Toro to play him in the movie. Another Odd / Cool thing about this story is that Easton Ellis is a white dude… and according to Ellis that’s part of the reason Del Toro was attracted to the part.
“Benicio would actually be playing Bret Easton Ellis,” the author said of his new, unlikely doppelganger. “It’s a strange bit of casting.” According to Easton Ellis, it was their physical differences that attracted the “Traffic” star to the role. “I think he’s interested just because he’s rarely offered Anglo parts.”
This sort of quirky little story sounds like something Del Toro would shine in. I’ll be curious to see if this actually come to fruition or not. (source: MTV)

Also if any of you who are fans of Bret’s work do yourselves a favor and go see The Informers. I absolutely loved the movie, book was still better but it definitely had the right tone and flow. Oh yea Amber Heard is naked through out most of the movie.
I think they should have the son from Little Miss Sunshine play the son, even though the son is supposed to be like 11-12 but I think he could def pull it off. This movie is going to be a bigger mind trip then Fear and Loathing.
If hollywood can get Keanu Reeves to play a Japanese guy then this should be no problem. Plus, he’s a great actor and basically looks like a latino cross between brad pitt and heath ledger so it should all work out. Not to mention the fact that he looks more like a “white guy” than keanu looks asian lol.
I’ve read Lunar Park, and it’s my favourite book.
I think Del Toro is a great choice to play Bret although I must admit, I’m more interested in who they’ll get to the play the other characters, especially Ellis’ son.
Im currently reading Lunar Park and the book is absolutely amazing. I have read all of Bret’s books leading up to this, and I am stoked to hear that they are turning Lunar Park into a movie. I havent seen the Informers yet but have heard alot of positive buzz about it. Honestly I think that they need to turn Glamoramma into a movie, its set up perfectly well for one. Love the fact that theyre going outside of the box by choosing Del Toro to play the role of Bret. Great post John, keep up the good work.
