Bourne 4 Could Shoot Next Summer

Bourne-4-Soon.jpgI was never a huge fan of the first 2 Bourne movies. The second one was probably the worst example of “shaky cam” I’ve ever seen in a film that pretty much ruined all the action in the movie for me. However, the third film was exceptional. Yes the shaky cam was still there, but no where near as bad as it was in its predecessor.

Now right from the beginning they said that the third Bourne film would ABSOLUTELY be the last one hey would make. Matt Damon repeated this in interviews and on the talk show circuit when they were promoting the film. You can understand why too. The Bourne Untimatum was a fantastic end to the franchise. However… when your movie makes over $400 million world wide, you pretty much have to consider another one. Not to mention fans everywhere seems to be hungering for another sequel as well.

Well, in a recent interview, producer extrodinare Frank Marshall is suggesting that they may be ready to start shooting the next Bourne movie at the end of next summer. The following was taken from LatinoReview:

Bourne – you’ll be happy to know he thinks they’ve figured out the premise of the next movie and they hope to be filming at the end of next summer. He says they’re not rushing the script and they won’t make it till they have the script ready to go. He talks about summer 2010

Personally I very much welcome this news. Bourne was never a one arc story. The Bourne franchise is all about the character, and the character is very hot and very marketable. I see no reason in the world not to do another one… and I also see no way another Bourne film wouldn’t make at least $200 million domestically.

  1. THESE MOVIES ARE MY FAVORITE EVER!!!! I LOVE ALL THREE AND I HOPE THEY FINISH ALL THE BOOKS, CUZ THERE IS LIKE 5 OR SO BOOKS…MAKE MORE MOVIES!!!!

  2. I DEFINITELY want another Bourne movie. Need to keep Matt Damon as Jason Bourne though. It would not be the same with anyone else playing that part.

  3. I love the whole Bourne series and as long as they keep the forth film in the same or higher quality than the third than I will be very happy. The third movie was my favorite summer and probably best movie of the year for me. Hopefully they will make careful choices and improve on editing styles. I don’t mind the shacky cam, but I wouldn’t mind if they were to bring it down a notch. To be honest like series better than the Jame Bond. Hopefully this stays true.

  4. Let’s just all hope that whatever direction they decide to take in the next Bourne film elevates the franchise to an even higher plateau. I imagine that they are starting from scratch since the last film tied up all the loose ends from Bourne’s past.

  5. “The shaky cam bothers me…” Are you guys retired already sitting in rocking chairs? ;-)

Agree with Sound Designer Dan about Quantum of Solace. That was shaky but who cared. No one had no idea what the f—k was going on anyway in that film.

  6. I thought the first Bourne was the best of the bunch, and although the third was better than the POS middle one (shaky cam syndrome run amok!) it still left me wanting the CIA to be more evil (as we know they are – ;) ).

Anyways, a 4th wouldn’t be a bad decision, and I’m sure a bigger paycheck would change Matty’s mind in a hurry.

  7. Shaky cam wasn’t in Quantum of Solace. The problem in that film was that you couldn’t know what the hell was going on because of the editing and piss poor zoomed in cinematography.

  8. I loved all three Bourne movies so this is welcomed news. Imo, this is the best action-adventure trilogy ever made, bar none. And are by far better than any Bond film that I’d seen, except for Casino Royale. The only time Shaky Cam bothered me was during Quantum of Solace.

  9. “he second one was probably the worst example of “shaky cam” I’ve ever seen”

Watch The Condemned, you may change your mind. Not that I would force anybody to ever watch a movie with WWF in the opening credits, but it is amazing how bad the shaky cam in that is.

  10. Bourne 3 was on HBO a little while ago and I was getting near motion sick from how much motion there was of the camera during conversations. Didn’t bother me in theaters, but on TV it was unwatchable.
