Timothy Olyphant Joins The Crazies

Timothy-Olyphant-Picture-1We have word today that Timothy Olyphant has joined the cast of The Crazies remake. We get the following details from the gorguts caves of Yahoo:

Timothy Olyphant has signed on to star in “The Crazies,” a remake of the George Romero horror movie.

The Overture Films project revolves around the inhabitants of a small Kansas town who are beset by death and insanity after a plane crash lets loose a secret biological weapon into the water supply. Olyphant is playing the town’s sheriff.

I wasn’t that fond of Olyphant in Hitman. The movie may not be an adequate showcase of his skills however; it was horrible.

As much as I hate remakes, George Romero himself is involved with this one. I’m not saying that his involvement will necessarily make it a better film, but speculating that he may craft this film the way he “always wanted it to be done” is a romantic notion.

If the original visionary of a project is part of the remake – it’s a lot easier for me to swallow. Is this true of you folks as well or do you just want everyone to leave these zombies lie.

  1. Yes there are 1400 in Lenox Iowa home of the National Pedal Tractor Pull Champion 10 year old Kayla Myers of Myers Pedal Tractor Pulls. This group is running an end of the National Pedal Pull in September in Mitchell SD.

    1. I too am from lenox iowa… and yes it has 1400 ppl.. they were thrilled to death that they filmed the movie here.. the ppl were polite and kind to all they came in contac with…. i will be spending the money to see this one in the theaters

  2. Oh and also, I saw a midnight showing of the Crazies at a theater when I was in high school and bought the DVD years back when Anchor Bay or Blue Underground (i forget) put it out. It’s a quality flick,

  3. This guy is awesome! I’m surprised no one else until the last two posters or so mentioned Deadwood. He was amazing in that and unfortunately it’s an underrated show, I dont I know anyone else who saw it but me. I also thought he was great in Die Hard as well.

  4. He was great in the HBO show Deadwood. I was hooked on that for the first couple seasons. The guy is a solid actor, when I saw Hitman I felt bad for him. He’s much better than that movie. That said, this movie sounds like crap… the kind of role I would expect the lead from Hitman to get if I hadn’t seen Tim in Deadwood.

  5. Spider-Man 3 was awesome, Hamzat. It just had too much shit going on, same with Pirates 3.

I’ve never seen any movie with this dude in it.

John or Doug, whoever is reading this now, why aren’t any movie reviews/uncut podcasts up on this blog lately? I’m still waiting for the QoS review.

  6. “Ya gotta make sure the juice is worth the squeeze!” Olyphant was great in Girl Next Door, but he was definetly out of his element in Die Hard 4. I guess remaking it the way you want is better than re-releasing it with a few terribly CGI’d scenes, making others shoot first and changing actors around and what-not. I dunno, it kinda sounds like it’s been done a time or…30. Does Romero ever watch the Sci-Fi channel?

  7. I think it’s fine to be honest. I love George, Diary may be flawed in the execution but how many directors good pull off the job as well with a budget of 2 million and nothing getting your hollywood buddies into the lead roles.
I have yet to see the original but it is an important steeping stone in his career, it stands really as the first movie he did on his own (he didn’t write it though, hence no zombies!).

Also george is working another zombie movie with the apt working title of “..of the dead”. Looks to be another low budget epic, apparently it’s a zombie western, i kid you not. check imdb.
