Johnny Depp will team up with Tim Burton anew as the Mad Hatter in Alice In Wonderland. We get the following scoop thanks to This Is Plymouth via the Movieweb:
This is Plymouth has reported that Tim Burton will head to Plymouth, England for two weeks in September to shoot his upcoming live action/performance capture project Alice in Wonderland. Also mentioned in the article is the fact that Johnny Depp is reportedly up for the role of the Mad Hatter.
Well we heard rumors going around last week that this may be the case, and now we have confirmation. I don’t think this will surprise many, Burton and Depp have a long successful history together and I think the role will suit Johnny just fine.
I am curious to see what a Tim Burton Alice In Wonderland film will look like and am more than pleased that Mr. Depp will be the Mad Hatter.
I would go with Angelina Jolie as the Mad Hatter. But seriously, Depp is pretty good for this part, although Im biased in favor of Jim Carey for parts like this.
Perfect director, perfect casting of Depp. I can’t wait to see this. Alice was one of my favourite books as a child and there was always quite a creep element to it. I’m sure I won’t be dissapointed in that regard.

No More Johhny Depp in Tims MOVIES!!!! God, I like Johnny and all but Id like for once to see one of Tims Dark movies with Johnny and I also love Helena Carter but can I see her in something else too!?!
This will look like every other Tim Burton flick… dark and Depp with big hair and makeup.
Jude Law looks like the Cheshire Cat:)
Not surprised. Though, I thought having Depp voice the Cheshire Cat would of been pretty rad as well.
They can save some coin and use the same costume Depp wore in Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up, Slushie Man.
That would be great Stanley, I live there too, its about time we had some excitement.
I’m currently living in Plymouth so if there’s anything I can find I’ll let you guys know! Other than that I’m gonna try and be an extra in the flick!
I think Steve Buscemi should be the mad hatter without a doubt. End this frippery between Timmey Burton and John Depp
@Slushie Man
I’d be surprised if HBC was the Queen since she doesn’t really fit my image of the portly, overbearing Queen character, nor do I think she can establish the kind of presence required to play that role. She is a good actress, don’t get me wrong, but I think the Queen would be a reach for her.
Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Tim Burton as the director of a new Alice in Wonderland movie. I know this is going to be creepy.
“Helena Bonham Carter”
Nah, she’ll be the Queen, lol.
Let me guess, the white rabbit will be played by none other than Helena Bonham Carter.
It’s interesting that he’s doing this role, as I would have considered him for the role of ‘Mad Hatter’, coincidentially as Derek mentioned, in a Batman film. Guess great minds think alike. Not that I’m in anyway a great mind.
I am overjoyed with this news. When I found out Burton was doing an Alice film I had Johnny as the Mad Hatter come to mind automatically. It’s obvious he’s perfect for the role. I can’t wait.
“I thought the Mad Hatter was supposed to be a short ugly dude.”
Only in the old cartoon. Not in the original story or any of the other adaptations of it.
Hopefully he will reprise his role as The Mad Hatter in the next Batman installment.
Could we get some Michael Keaton in this movie please.
I thought the Mad Hatter was supposed to be a short ugly dude.
