Rambo Rules Rentals

Rambo-PentictonIt looks like John Rambo has been kicking ass in rental outlets right out of the gate. We get the following numbers from the Swiss money vaults of yahoo:

“Rambo” was the No. 1 choice in DVD rental stores during its first week of release, but failed to unseat the “National Treasure” sequel from the top of the sales chart, according to data issued Wednesday. The belated fourth installment in the Sylvester Stallone action franchise, bowed at No. 2 on Nielsen VideoScan’s saleschart for the week ended June 1, behind “National Treasure: Book of Secrets.”

In rental stores, “Rambo” generated an estimated $8.6 million, or 20% of its theatrical gross of $42.8 million. “Rambo” also led the Blu-ray Disc sales chart, and the new “Rambo Trilogy” debuted at No. 3. “National Treasure” slipped to No. 2.

Rambo 4 was an all out orgy of violence. It’s no surprise to me that word of mouth has caused this film to be quite successful at the rental outposts. The film was over the top, and had a lot of people talking about how crazy the violence was.

Generating 20% of its theatrical gross its first week out of the gate is outstanding. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rambo 4 continues to be a popular rental for quite some time to come. I know I want to see it again.

I am a little startled that National Treasure: Book of Secrets is selling so many copies of their DVD. I can’t even offer an explanation why – so I have decided to chalk it up to hypnosis.

  1. Rambo is the best movie ive seen this year i went and saw it in theatres and loved it im going to get the 6-disc tin set of all the movies.cant wait till the 5th one there making another one.

  2. I think that the National Treasure movie is doing so well because people are in a mood to see movies about adventurers going after artefacts because of the new Indiana Jones movie. I know that’s how I feel. I’ve watched all the Indiana Jones movies again, went to see the new one at the theater and then, bought National Treasure: Book of secrets just to stay in that kind of mood.

  3. The new Rambo movie I thought was actually quite good . The story line was believable if you think someone like Rambo could exist in this world. Extremely entertaining and fun to watch and violent as usual .

The sequel to the National Treasure Book of Secrets I thought was actually better than the first film . I’m not a big fan of the first film at all. It drags too much and the story line is a bit far fetched. Maybe its because I think there is more government conspiracy out there than people know.

Rambo is a definite movie to see and I would buy it.
National Treasure 2 is something that is fun to watch but, I wouldn’t watch it over and over like Rambo.
Funny thing is I bought National Treasure already on DVD and not Rambo.

  4. Rambo is fantastic.

Maybe its doing so well due to the fact that a lot of the younger movie going audience were not permitted to see the film in theatres, so now its being rented out to them..

What a fantastic movie. I bought the Blu-Ray when it came out. I cannot say enough great things about it..
