Watchmen Finishes Filming

Executve producer Herb Gains has made a point of sharing his experience with Zach Snyder wrapping up principal filming on the Watchmen.

Coming Soon quotes Gaines statement:

I now sit in my Vancouver hotel room one year later, and guess what? We did shoot all of it — every frame of it, and not just the title sequence drawings but all of Zack’s drawings are now committed to film. The combination of modern-day technology and the level of artistic ability of so many people has made the Watchmen experience second to none. The spirit behind the making of this film was nothing short of total pleasure and love. As I wandered from room to room at the wrap party, there was not only a sense of accomplishment from everyone involved but a feeling of sadness that it’s coming to an end. The one thing that remains for me is the anticipation and excitement of seeing the finished product, knowing that we’ve all worked on something very special.

I want to get so pumped about this. The movie version of this awesome graphic novel SHOULD be stunning. Great story, great message, great everything. But we all know how adaptations just never meet everyone’s expectations.

I am holding my breath. I think it is a good sign that Gains is stoked about his whole experience producing this movie, but I wonder how many other movies that were not well received were also thought of as such a great project at this stage.

  1. Isnt there some legal battle going on between studios about who has the rights? I read something recently that untill that mess gets sorted out, they may have to hold off releasing it. Anyone else heard of this?

  2. From now on, I refuse to read any posts on this site regarding WATCHMEN, until one of the writers has actually read this thing. As a die-hard fans this is really starting to anger me.
Come on people, we’ve been telling you this for months now!

  3. @rodney
yeah i didnt like the casting but- i just liked the JLA comic books better then watchmen.
imean im cool with this but- ive just been so excited about the justice league movie now im just depressed, im glad they axed it cuz the casting was awfull but- im hoping theyll start a new one soon cuz im a big jla fan

its not that i dont like this but- everytime i hear watchmen and superman vs batman news im like “wait! did u forget about jla? what the hell you guys!”
id love to see watchmen but..ive just really been looking forward to jla

i mean- im i the only one that would rather watch the green lantern and the flash in the big screen instead of doctor manhatan and captain metropolis??
(i like watchmen! im just saying!!)

  4. To be fair Jamie, they have been attempting to get a Watchmen project off the ground for a LONG time.

JLA was only being considered after the success of other films on the DC roster. With any luck the recent problems with that sad excuse for JLA that they were going to bring out will make them rethink their plan and put out a JLA movie you would like.

  5. ok- if this turns out to not pawn ok but if it does tank- ill be so pissed.
i dotn want to see watchmen!!! i want JLA!! i mean i WILL watch it dont get me wrong, and i love the watchmen and i read some of their comic books..thing is, how in the name of jesus does this come out BEFORE justice league? i just wanna see a movie with flash, the greenlantern and aquaman in it- thats all. i mean i think this will be good i just HOPE it doesnt suck

  6. I too hope this is going to be a film worth seeing. I’m not holding my breath though, we’ve seen them fuck up far simpler comic book adaptations, and I’m one those people who think this book would be hard to adapt even if you got some of the best in the industry. And Rouge Pirate:
I highly doubt the pirate section are going to make it into the film.
