Tekken Movie

Tekken-1We have some unconfirmed casting news today thanks to our friends at IESB via the movieweb:

According to IESB, Tekken is set to star Jon Foo, Andy Serkis, Susie Amy and Sienna Guillory.

Based on a number one selling video game from the NAMCO arcade company, the film will take place around Jin Kazama as he enters a secret martial arts tournament with villains and allies. Tekken pits fighters with different skills against one another, though a plot to the film is yet to be known. Filming begins February 5th in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Video game films don’t have a good track record, but a film where you have an elimination style fighting tournament should be hard to mess up and as long as they keep it simple, this could have potential. As long as they use Bloodsport as their guide here and not the live action Street Fighter – there may be hope for this one. It is strange to see the name of Andy Serkis on the list, I didn’t know he was skilled in ass-kickery; I will keep my ear to the tracks to find out what character he will play.

Tekken is a fun enough fighting game. I place it above Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat and below Bushido Blade, Virtua Fighter and Streetfighter. I will throw a quarter into the slot if the game is in the same room with me, but have yet to commit to a character. One of the most enjoyable parts of a fighting game is finding your signature character and working with them throughout the years. I have spent more time with Wolf and Ryu than I have with my nephew; but to be fair – they are older.

International friends – what are your thought on a Tekken film?

  1. no King. no stars…..They should do like Mortal Kombat and put all the most popular characters in it. Mortal Kombat is the best movie based on a fighting video game just because of the loyalty of the movie for the game

  2. Okay so here’s the synopsis of the film:

Based on the long running and highly successful Namco video game franchise of the same name, TEKKEN is a high-octane, action packed thriller written for the screen by Alan McElroy (Spawn, The Marine) and to be directed by Dwight Little (Anacondas, Murder at 1600) with fight choreography tentatively by Dion Lam (Spider-Man 2, Doom, Red Cliff)

Set in 2039, the film promises non-stop high flying action as the greatest fighters from around the world come to compete in the last and greatest sporting event of all time – the Fist Tournament. After World Wars destroy much of civilization as we know it, the remaining territories are no longer run by governments, but by corporations the mightiest of which is Tekken. In order to keep the masses down, Tekken sponsors the Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters compete to the death for ultimate glory and receive a lifetime of stardom and wealth.

We are introduced to this violent world through the eyes of Jin Kazama, a street fighter that enters the tournament in order to avenge the death of his mother that he blames upon Tekken’s powerful and controlling Chairman – Heihachi Mishima. He knows that the only way to get close enough to Mishima to kill him is to win the tournament. With the help of Lucas, an ageing Iron Fist Champion and fight trainer, Jin makes his way through the tournament, but in doing so, he begins to uncover his own past and inner demons as well as exposing a dark underbelly to Tekken that threatens the very existence of humanity.

With futuristic and imaginative sets, a compelling story, and fight sequences combining fighting styles from all over the world – TEKKEN is in line to become one of the greatest action films of all time…

Right. So here are the guys responsible:

Tekken is being written by Michael Werb, Michael Colleary, and Hans Rodinoff. Screenplay will be written by Alan McElroy. The director of the film is Dwight H. Little. It has been said that Charles Stone III will be one of the directors.

The Production company’s website is: http://www.crystalsky.com/films.htm

Oh yeah it’s going to bomb like Dragonball: Evolution

  3. First i heard about a tekken movie i was very excited but more and more i’m starting to get the feeling it is going to suck big time … Not one big name in the cast (it doesn’t make the movie but it sure helps). And no King and no Hwoarang??? My 2 favorite charackters but they put in Raven who was only in 1 tekken game :s I hope they will come to there sences in time …

  4. Yaw!!! people whats with all the hatred!! obviously they can’t tell us exactly whats gna hpn n whose who we just gota wait n c!!!!! im a huge fan of tekken!!! i say the movie is gna b great!!!

  5. Huh……….. no King ! what the hell is this?
Yo guys please do a little research before you go out and start making a movie that hasn’t got all characters and don’t deviate from original stuff.

or later you might be saying hmmm… we made a good movie but it failed.
e.g hitman (movie) one failed because of the same reason.

  6. I just hope the movie goes well. Personally, I think they should make it like Final Fantasy Advent Children was made. I saw DOA and they just looked kind of funny wearing the outfits of the characters. It’s like no real people can actually be portrayed as these video game characters…. unless the characters were made to look like certain people.

  7. i am a big fan of tekken series, the tekken series have been my favourate since on its ps1 till now, so i got big expetations on the movie and offcose im looking forward to its story line. I hope jin woarng and paul will be casted with gud actors.

  8. Listen, check it on imdb.com. The actors they picked are so horrid. It definitely will fail. I love the Tekken games, but they are missing so many of the famous characters. The ones they picked dont even fit the frame for each character. Look at Gun Jack and Martial Law. OMG even Eddie Gordo looks ridiculous this movie will FAIL

  9. well if this movie will have the great cast, gret scenes and story then definitely it will become a fanastic and a blockbuster hit movie..
I’ve also been a big fan of it since I recognize this promising computer game-turned movie on PS1 comp console game which is Tekken 3 i missed the other franchise but when I saw tekken 4,5 and so on i’ve been interested to its story especially when I play it on story mode..

If they make it a movie it suppose to have more fighting scenes and also some sort of stories of the cast individually be played on screen then it makes sense to the movie as well it will be a blockbuster hit.. ^_^

  10. I am like the biggest tekken fan i have been with the franchise sicnce i was 8 and have not missed a single title except one tekken dark resurrection if you can call that a game it is tekken 5 for the psp. They should PUT LOTS OF FIGHTS IN THE MOVIE AND DO NOT MAKE WHORANG AND JIN CRAP OR ANY OF THE REST the canracters are legends they should have good actors to play them it would be rubbish also i agree with some of the actors christian james corton mentioned i think the movie could be a flop or a total success, it depends on the script, actors and the setting

  11. the actor that plays marshall law does not fit (cung le) ,it thing that the keeper wearing the yellow shirt in shoalin soccer should be casted
    really dissapointed

  12. Seeing as how imdb has labled the ‘Tekken’ movie as being in post-production, they already have a set cast. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Shang-Tsung in Mortal Kombat) is said to be playing the part of Heihachi Mishima. I can’t see him playing the part, but he is a superb actor. Also, they credit Lateef Crowder with the part of Eddy Gordo. Promissing, as he played a great charcter in The Protector. As for Jin Kazama, they have Jon Foo cast for that part. I’m hoping that this movie will not be a complete let-down. They have a good enough director (Dwight H. Little), so my expectations are pretty high. Also, the fact that I’m a huge fan of the Tekken Series will play a big part in my opinion on this movie. We can only cross our fingers and pray that this movie will not be like DOA.
    Aloha

  13. Mexico es una parte importante de esa pelicula, de ese juego,Mexico es fan, asi es que no pueden dejar olvidado a King ni a Armor King!!!!! no lo veo en los cortos no lo veo el cast

  14. another is it took forever until jackie chan and jet li to appear in one movie (forbidden kingdom). So I’m not sure they would put an all star cast especially mixed chinese/japanese/american cast in this movie. It’s just too good to be true. It would take a TV series to just show the whole tekken legacy.

  15. the cast are too much to be expected in this kind of film, maybe doing this in 3D instead of real humans are better just like how people enjoy final fantasy advent children because that is how they have been known for. Onimusha could be done in real humans because the cast are minimal so they could hire the biggest stars they want. Remember the old street fighter real human movie? Ofcourse fans wouldn’t want tekken to be a “full of cameo” movie. People wouldn’t watch unless they are gamers. People wouldn’t care because they aren’t familiar with all the tekken characters. if tekken would be done in real humans, they could have just pick 3-4 main characters. My friends who watched final fantasy advent children say its technically good but they are confused since they didn’t actually know what the initial story of final fantasy 7 unless they played the game.

Hope you guys get my point ;b

  18. According to Mixed marshal arts promoters strikeforce, Cung Le who recently won the middle weight title from frank shamrock has scored a role in the tekken movie. The inclusion of actual experienced fighters could bode well for the movie. i wonder who the undefeated champion will play.
p.s. i think jackie chan should play lei wulong as they are practicaly the same person

  19. I’ll prefer the movie of Tekken made in 3DAnime, based on my experience when watching the others.

I’ll take Final Fantasy Advent Children as no flaws…
    It’s d4mned perfet

  20. Luke Goss from 80`s pop band BROS is to play the part of steve fox, its on imdb and wiki.

The story is suppoosed to be based on Jin so am taking that the devil and angels will have something to do with this also.

I am looking forward to this movie, just to see what they do with it. Probably everything will be pushed back for special effects.

  21. They have supposedly cast Lateefa Crowder as Eddy Gordo, could be a good move. Jon Foo will play Jin and i have heard that kelly overton will possibly play Christie. Who knows!!!!

  22. Eugh, i love Tekken but we really don’t need a Tekken film. Isnt the director the one who done Anacondas 2 and a Steven Siegal film.

If this film doesnt go straight to DVD then ill expect it to be in the cinemas for 2 weeks max. Just keep it as a tournament and see how things go and this might be alot to ask from Hollywood, but try not to screw up the image of such awesome gaming characters in the space of 90 mins.

  23. Okay, here are my thoughts on the movie.

As a great fan of the tekken franchise, i see this movie as a potential film underneath the 13 years it has lived. Those 13 years are about as old as i am, but im older by about a year. Stating that i know plenty on the storylines, i must say that i will agree with some, and disagree with most on certain cases.

I do agree that the storyline is rather complicated, at least getting it straight from the game. Storylines from the game have to be altered into something much more simpler, yet twisty and turny. I believe that if they stick with the, “Target Heihachi and enter the tournament” and make it much more original than the terrible work they did on the anime, then it’ll be set.

But they need good actors. From what i know, they got Marshall Law, Jin Kazama, Steve Fox, and a guy named Matador in the film. I am not to sure about the new characters, but i’ll be happy if they portray the characters correctly.

I have no doubt that one wrong move and the movie will end up in Best Buy’s Bargain for 5 bucks. But for a movie given $60 Million, i think i have to stay positive.

I am interested on how they end up making the movie. The director isnt very pleasing to me, and the fact that its hollywood isn’t making me happy either. But i’ll keep hopes up.

I want the good characters in there, and not new character trash. i hope these people, especially the writers to know what they’re doing.

If that happens, i’ll be happy. I was very frightened at first, but i see production, and some more depth, so maybe…just maybe. This film may not be a disaster after all.

  24. OH GOD!!!!

They better not forget the HAIR!!!!!!!!!! XD *sparkly eyes* Oh and the sexah body XD I dont want a skimpy skinny jin!!! So yeah ^__^ this movie should have a mix of me in it tooo!!!!!! :P wha ha!!!

  25. JIN ROCKS!!!!!! They should like call me in to work on the movie XD I have like crazed ideas and the jin they put in it better look as close as him like seriously. I don’t want some bootlegger!!! Even if they have to use Make up!!!!!!!! Use as much as they need!! I want JIN!!!!!!! DAMN IT! okay yeah I bet this movie will selll ^__^ I’m sure they’ll be looking at the bad things and good things from the street fighter films and mortal kombat :D

  26. TEKKEN MOVIE CAST.

The Tekken series of fighting games will be coming to the big screen,The Moviesonline website said that the film will be focus on Kazuya Mishima the main character.
John Foo and Takeshi Kaneshiro will be in the film as the filming locations start in Louisiana for 6 weeks and filming rest in Japan.
Takeshi Kaneshiro will star in the movie version of Onimusha directed by Christophe Gans and the script will be written by Choko Sakai and Hirohisa Soda. The plot ans story will follow the same path to the first game Onimusha Warlords.
Capcom should work with Hollywood production company Threshold Entertainment to work on the Darkstalkers series of new games, motion pictures and TV series.
    Thank You.
    BRUCE ACOSTA
    AUSTRALIA.

  27. D.O.A. was a fun film!
The street fighter film should have been based on the anime version, that would have kcked ass.

Tekken, hmmmm, I used to love the game, but fighting games I find suck in general now, and I cant play them for more than 10mins at a time.
However, Tekken has some great charactors, Brian Fury springs to mind.

The film will end up being bad, probably very bad, but I guess it will be a fun flick to see once and TV or DVD, but I wouldnt part cash to see it on the big screen.

  28. Andy Serkis….

    Okay! I can see it!

Here’s my guess… the kidnapped scientist Doctor Geppetto Boskonovitch. Boskonovitch “creates” Roger and Alex, lends a hand in creating the Jack units, and has connections to Bryan Fury and Yoshimitsu.

    Sienna Guillory? Nina Williams.
    Susie Amy? Anna Williams.

All I know is that I want Dolph Lundgren for Bryan Fury.

  29. Odds are that its about time they got it right i guess. may have to change the law character considering hes such a bruce lee rippoff. Which reminds me actually this should also use enter the dragon as a reference

  30. Dude, I agree with everything you say.

However, if a video game movie is ever going to be good I would hazard that a tournament style fighting contest would be the best way to do it.

8 enter one leaves should be a hard plot to fuck up, but they did it with street fighter and mortal combat so statistically you are correct, the odds aren’t good.

  31. Doug,

Come on man, I thought you of all people would have more sense than to think another movie based on of all things a popular fighting game would even stand a chance. Want an idea of how bad? Okies…go rent Street Fighter, Double Dragon, and D.O.A. and come back and re- read what you wrote!

I like Andy Serkis but knowing the track record they will put him into a role like Heihachi…can you say flashback to Van Damme as Guile?

  32. I heard about this project quite a while back and i can’t wait although from reference i can see this ending badly

Dead or alive (similar franchise) was a pretty fun film (oh it was soooo horrible but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun ^^) but that#s because they made it cheep and fun (come on a female wrestler VS Kevin Nash and winning xD).

The tekken anime movie was horrible horrible when it tried to be serious.

My guess is they will try and make it serious to branch away from DOA and it will end badly > or they will try and make it fun and it will end badly cause Tekken isn’t as fun a franchise. There is the off chance they do make it have lots of pretty gruesome fights but who would want to see that *sighs*
