I came across a VERY surprising list on Yahoo News (Yahoo changed their list to read “next year” instead of 2008)today that was basically the results of a study done of what movie goers most anticipated films of 2008 are. The #1 film really isn’t surprising at all… Indiana Jones 4. That’s a no brainer. #2 wasn’t all that surprising either, Batman. But a number of them really shocked me.
Before I go any further, here’s the list as it broke down:
1. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Obvious)
2. The Dark Knight (Batman Begins 2) (Again, obvious)
3. National Treasure: Book of Secrets (WHAT!?!?! Really?!?! I’m kinda, mildly looking forward to this too… but #3?!?! More than Get Smart? More than Iron Man? More than Narnia?)
4. American Gangster (Glad to see this rank so high, but still a shock. I thought most people still hadn’t really heard of it yet)
5. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (Yeah, right where I thought it would be)
6. Iron Man (Higher than I thought… but not by much)
7. I Am Legend (Will Smith is bankable, no surprise)
8. Get Smart (Really thought this would be higher. Carrell is hot, Get Smart is a beloved title… #8 is good, just thought it would be up there more)
9. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (There are people looking forward to this?)
10. Charlie Wilson’s War (A Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts real life political thriller… you knew it would be on here)
11. Hancock (Again, Smith is bankable… could be fun… sounds a little like a “Captain Amazing” movie)
12. Beowulf (No thank you)
13. His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass (Thought it would be higher)
14. Mamma Mia! (Uggg… no thanks)
15. The Incredible Hulk (Trust me… just trust me… I read the script this week… this movie will ROCK, and when trailer start coming out for this bad boy people will be buzzing)
16. Speed Racer (Don’t care)
17. Step Brothers (Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly together again… but I thought no one heard of it yet)
18. Bee Movie (I’m very surprised this came in this low. The teaser commercials have been cute, it’s the return of Jerry Seinfeld… sort of… why is this movie not getting more love?)
19. Mr. Magnorium’s Wonder Emporium (Meh)
20. Starship Dave (great Odin’s beard… kill it… kill it now)
So there you have it. My personal biggest shock on that list is National Treasure 2 being so damn high on the list. That really caught me off guard. So how about YOU? How would you order these on your anticipation list? What other films coming in 2008 would you include, and which would you bump off to make room for it?
wat the hell is twilight nothing to anyone….
i am waitng for indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
There are a lot of good movies coming out in 2008. I found a great list that has all the actors, directors, and descriptions on Seekler. It is cool because there you can create your own list and contribute to the overall rank. Currently the top of the list is Indy, Batman, Iron man… but I put my own list on their as Batman, Indy, Speed Racer. Anyways it is a cool way to filter and sort through the upcoming movies…
Most anticipated movies of 2008
umm arnt most of these movies out already?? i cant wait to see Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanamo bay! :)
So does this post mark the official switch from John not believing in the new Indy movie to finally admiting it might possibly be happening. Possibly?
Only 4 4ME:
Batman The Dark Knight
Bond 22
Hellboy 2
Iron Man
Solid list, actually. Not the exact order iw ould put them in, but they got a lot of the big titles on there.
John, this is just usin whats been around me, but the trailers got all my friends hyped for American Gangster (these are 16-20 year olds) as it looks like Denzel’s returning to form with it. In addition, Jay-Z (rapper) is launching a non-official CD called American gangster because of the movie so that CD and its songs are further going to expand the movie’s marketing. That’s why everyone is very excited for it.
and excuse me,i Forgot the Great Wall.E:D
im really looking forward to Youth without Youth,Cappolla and Ganz!i’m in!!!
and there is The Dark Knight,The Fighter,Kite Runner,Valkyre,Sweeney Todd,American Gangster,Charlie Wilson’s War and on top if the hill there comes the Great “Bucket List”.
i really cant understand why no one mentions this movie, two of the Greatest Actors of this era(one of the is Definitely THE Greatest aka Nicholson)and an Excellent Script with a Good Director helming this Flick, and you know,it will be this Year’s “Oscars Ruler”
@Art
I agree with you. I really don’t think the Cloverfield movie exists. There’s been basically nothing for three months apart from a teaser trailer, a poster and, IMHO, a pretty lame website.
Meanwhile, movies that are coming out long after 1/18/08 have released full theatrical trailers and have something that Cloverfield should have by now – a name!
First, this list is crap. So many of those are slated for 2007 releases.
And second, lets face it folks. THere is no J.J. Abrams movie. That man is the biggest attention whore in Hollywood. If there really were this big amazing monster movie like he supposedly has we would have heard about it months ago because he would have been touting how freakin amazing it was and how he is Jesus incarnate. Nobody can keep a secret in Hollywood. Look at all the pictures of other movies that get leaked early from production and in post, but not a single tidbit of info or image for J.J. Abram’s movie. impossible!! it doesnt exist!! Sorry, Im disappointed too. the trailer looked sweet.
Arent most or some of those coming out this year? Bee Movie/National Treasure 2/I am legend/American Gangstar/Chalie Wison’s War/Beowulf?
indiana bones?? really? people are looking forward to this? movies are in a sad state.
Oh goodness. How can Bond not be on this list? It’s James Bond! I’m disappointed in an otherwise good list.
I’m looking forward to kids kicking the back of my seat in 2008!!
John, come one. You really think that people are more excited about NATIONAL TREASURE 2 than about the next installments in the BOND & POTTER series? Melby’s point is more than valid, this list is utterly and total bullshit.
Oh and by the way: I AM LEGEND, BEOWULF, THE GOLDEN COMPASS, BEE MOVIE, MR MAGORIUM’S WONDER EMPORIUM – all of these movies start in 2007, why are they on this list?
The biggies next year are:
BOND 22
INDIANA JONES 4
THE DARK KNIGHT
HARRY POTTER 6
Quite a number of Yahoo’s “2008” list are indeed 2007 releases, including Wonder Emporium, American Gangster and Bee Movie.
Here’s my list.
1] Iron Man
2] Indy 4
3] Batman/Dark Knight
4] Bond 22
5] The Spiderwick Chronicles
6] Wolverine
7] Incredible Hulk
8] Pathology Hey, you know somethin’ ’bout that, Yahoo folks?
9] The Forbidden Kingdom [Jet Li/Jackie Chan]
10] Valkyrie
11} Cabin Fever II
12] The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
13] Star Trek
14] The Power of the Dark Crystal Slipped under everyone’s radar! I don’t believe it!
15] Hellboy : Golden Army
16] The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
17] Horton Hears a Who! [Jim Carrey/Steve Carrell]
18] Get Smart
19] John Rambo
20] Kung Fu Panda [Jack Black, Jackie Chan]
How is it possible people haven’t heard of American Gangster?!?!?! The trailer is on every movie i’ve seen in the last month.
Hey Melby,
You said:
“The lack of Bond and Potter on that list invalidates it”
People’s opinions are not invalidated because they don’t match yours.
Considering Golden Compass, I am Legend and Beowulf is 2007 movies they are not on my list. The lack of Bond and Potter on that list invalidates it
1. Bond 22
2. Dark Knight
3. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
4. Incredible Hulk
5. Iron Man
6. Prince Caspian
7. Hellboy 2
8. National Treasure 2
9. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
10. Mmmy 3
11. Aliens vs Predator
Where is the mention of the next James Bond…now that is bankable
my list is as follows, in no particular order because it’s hard to choose:
The Golden Compass (2007)
I Am Legend (2007)
National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007)
Iron Man (2008)
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)
The Dark Knight (2008)
Indiana Jones 4 (2008)
Beowulf (2007)
American Gangster (2007)
Untitled J.J. Abrams Project (2008)
Jumper (2008)
Get Smart (2008)
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Aliens vs. Predator – Requiem (2007)
Michael Clayton (2007)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
Wanted (2008)
Fanboys (2007)
Bee Movie (2007)
Dan in Real Life (2007)
Hmmm. No mention of ST11?
you aren’t looking forward to beowulf?
i am thouroughly stoked for it.
well, grendel look skind of stupid in the preview, but other that that i think it looks sweet.
Yea, I know that National Treasure is a 2007 movie as well, it’s coming out this December 21. Anyway I think it definitely deserves to be up there on that list, it’s one of my most anticipated.
So I gather that when they say next year, they mean Oscar contending year, since that is NOT 01/01/08 – 31/12/08. That is what? late October or early November and on? Still, they should have done a bit more research into the release date I think.
Hey John! What is with Beowulf that makes you hesitant to watch it? Just curious…
The marketing for 1-18-08 is so good, nobody even knows about it! I do agree though, that is the movie I am most looking forward to right now. It’s a giant whale!
Hey MyKrantz
What “Red State” are you talking about? The Kevin Smith Project? It’s not happening… at least not for now… the studio turned it downl
And Beowulf comes out this year, too! This list is fucked.
My personal list of movies I am looking forward to:
1. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
2. Batman The Dark Knight
3. Ironman
4. The Incredible Hulk
5. I am Legend
6. National Treasure: Book of Secrets
7. Red State
8. American Gangster
9. The Golden Compass
10. Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (Yes, it is likely going to suck, but I like seeing Aliens and Predators laying waste to each other)
Pray tell where is 1-18-08/Cloverfield? Looks like the mysterious viral marketing is really working a treat.
Uhhh…American Gangster comes out next month. How is that an ’08 movie?
Bee Movie? I thought that was a 2007 movie?
